So I've just been reading through Above Top Secret for a while this evening. Here's a taste of some of the linked headlines I've found here.

I started getting somewhat depressed in response to this, so I had another idea. "I know! I'll check Reddit instead! I'm sure I'll be able to find stories about positive, uplifting things that are happening in the world, there!"

As it turns out, that was a bad decision. Hitting me right between the eyes, the moment the Reddit page loaded, was this:

After reading that story, I've realised something. I now understand why some people believe in the possibility of UFOs and aliens. It's because they are desperately hoping that another species might exist, who they can go and live with.

When we are good, we are very very good, when we are bad we are very very bad.

you gota have a lot more faith then that...the news rarely ever covers good things that happen

One can pull up their local news and see that there was a crash in their town... but would you ever expect to see news for the cars that don't crash? It doesn't exist!

the same goes with everything else thats reported.
The unfortunate reality is that most "news" these days rarely ever reports the positive things that happen

more examples:
you don't expect to see the news for...
the planes that safely make their destination
the people who truly respect the well-being of animals
the people who conduct a legitimate business
the businesses that weren't robbed today
the girls that walked home safely tonight
the children that did have enough food to eat today

it's essential that we hear about bad things that happen to educate ourselves more on how to prevent them, but to conclude that "humanity" is evil based on only the bad things and not the good things is inaccurate and a complete misrepresentation of what we are capable of as a whole

I have no faith in humanity whatsoever. The majority of people are stupid. About a month ago i told a guard at one of my customers that i bought a nice dslr camera and wanted to be a pro photographer. Yesterday i had to have a meeting with my manager cause she filed a complaint on me saying i asked her to take nude pics of her and blablablabla. Wtf?

Im not even going to so much as talk to a woman again.

Oh and im sick of basically being told that im supposed to work 150 hours a week just to make barely enough money to pay my bills. Im sick of the scam.....

All this complaining how bad and evil everything is, how life sucks, how the world sucks, how 'we' don't deserver to exist...it's annoying and what do those people who write this crap? NOTHING. They are too lazy or dumb to try and make a difference or just end their existence if everything is so crappy.

You are part of the problem and you can kiss my ass. my life is great and i have no desire whatsoever to end it. Hell, im always armed with a 9mm or a 45....

As they say, it takes all sorts to make a world, sadly orangutan rapers and seal clubbers etc included.
Thankfully the world is also full of decent folks outraged by such things and want the madness to end. For that reason alone I have nothing but love for the majority of my fellow man.

We do have our fair share of wrong'uns though, that's for sure. What I'm not sure about is whether the world has ever really been any different.

#2) Lawmakers in Illinois say that violence has become so rampant in Chicago that the National Guard needs to be sent in. In just one night last week seven people were killed and 18 were wounded - mostly by gunfire. In fact, there have already been 113 murders in Chicago this year.

#3) The city of Phoenix, Arizona has become the car theft capital of the world as millions of illegal aliens who can't get work have found that stealing cars can be very profitable indeed.

#4) There are approximately 12 million crimes committed in the United States every single year. That is by far the worst in the world. No other nation has more than about 6 million reported crimes per year.

#5) In New York City, the number of homicides in the first quarter of the year had shot up by approximately 22 percent compared with 2009.

#6) U.S. prisons are already bursting at the seams. As you read this, there are over 2.2 million people in prison in the United States. In fact, America leads the world in the number of prisoners and in the percentage of the population in prison. The United States has 5% of the world's population, but 25% of the world's incarcerated population.

#7) U.S. law enforcement authorities claim that there are now over 1 million members of criminal gangs inside the country. These 1 million gang members are responsible for up to 80% of the crimes committed in the United States each year.

#8) There are over 100,000 rapes in the United States every single year. That is the highest number for any of the countries in the United Nations.

#9) According to USA Today, 58% of state and local law enforcement agencies in the United States reported that violent criminal gangs were active in their areas in 2008. That was up from 45% in 2004.

#10) Every year, one out of every five people is a victim of a crime in the United States. No other nation on earth has a rate that is higher..

However, it's easy to inflate things. When you factor in that there's 315 million Americans, well, the odds are actually pretty good that you aren't going to experience these unless you go to a place where there is high crime rates. Learn where they are, then avoid them like the plague. With a maximum of 12 million crimes, then that means that statistics like one in five suffer a crime is false because twelve million is less than ten percent of the population.

People love to cry doom and gloom in order to sell news. And most people fall for it.
