Interesting article. And having read that not only are the skulls increasing in size but also the faces are becoming longer and narrower suggesting
possibly that the jawbones are growing and becoming more pronounced. The reason I find it interesting is because it reminds me of two things.
One the disease known as acromegaly; pituitary giantism.
Source
Generalized expansion of the skull at the fontanelle
Pronounced brow protrusion, often with ocular distension
Pronounced lower jaw protrusion with attendant macroglossia (enlargement of the tongue) and teeth gapping
Second it reminds me of many athletes that have been reported to use HGH; human growth hormone, for long periods of time. Many of them seem to have
some growth to their skull and bones as well as muscles.
Now, I am not a doctor nor a scientist, but since both of those examples involve growth of the skull related to increased levels of growth hormone,
they at least suggest that a possible cause of this general increase in skull and jaw growth in Americans could be low levels of increased growth
hormone.
Now if we look at the fact that Americans are injecting our cattle and other livestock with animal growth hormones to make them bigger, one can at
least ask if it's possible that eating livestock injected with bovine and other growth hormones, may be the cause. Of course there would have to be
many studies, but it is a plausible explanation. One that I don't find that far fetched. Plus since we are possibly gaining the growth hormone in a
secondary fashion consuming the live stock the level of hormone obtained and the effects may be reduced when compared to increased levels of the
hormone being directly produced or injected in the body, thus why the phenomenon seems to be a gradual shift rather than a dramatic one.
Anyway just my opinion and speculation on it.
