Do you believe in there being an ultimate reality?

If so, then why isnt your religion the Ultimate Reality instead of, say, Christianity or islam?

If I had to share what religion I'm in it would be the Ultimate Reality since I believe in it.

Please explain what you mean by Ultimate Reality.

Why could "Ultimate Reality" not still encompass a higher power, such as Yahweh, Ra, Shiva or whomever one wishes to believe in?

Ultimate implies possession of perfect quality...meaning, no one can argue with it.

Since everyone is different, it would be impossible to have no contradicting perspectives. Especially considering the size of the world, and number of cultures.

Therefore, Ultimate Reality is about as real as Ultimate Beauty...which no one will agree on.

Yep.

Death seems it would literally be it.

That's more relevant to "ultimate fact", not "ultimate reality". Ultimate reality is what you face while alive, not what comes after. Death is such a small part of it.

Seems a reality to me.

More than any of the "major religions" or leading philosophies.

Just saying...

And it's ultimate.

I was also a philosophy major if you can believe it.

not saying i care or even know what the OP is talking about, but as for your question, eh reality doesn't include fairy tale characters, believing something and the truth are two different things. But the ultimate reality in my opinion is that every religion is like a piece to a bigger puzzle that we'll never figure out with the way we act and behave now.

Reality depends on a individual's perspective, For a christian god is reality.

For an Atheist reality is reality, So your pretty much an atheist really

Saying that death is reality is akin to saying, "That car is spark plug." It is a crucial part of the car, but that does not identify the car. This is a matter of identification...and you are suggesting that death is the sole indicator of ultimate reality.

Death makes things real to us, but so does everything else. It all depends on perspective, as I said before.

He has also said in some of his other threads he has been "raptured" a few times...

Your definition of "rapture" may not be his definition...

Just because one man does not think like you do, you mock him?

Man don't take me so seriously.

WarJohn's threads are notorious for a couple odd lines in the OP then he disappears and doesn't return to them.

Anyway this is in the "off-topic" forum so damn it I'm going off T.

Oh dear,

So his reality May not be realistic is opposed to the many realities that are only realistic because every body else thinks they are part of the same reality, La da dAh da daaaahhh, I've given myself a headache

I keep telling you, it's all perspective. Just as truth is perspective, and what is ultimate reality? The truth of life as concerns the person asking.

His definition as he told it was was watching the superbowl and then poof he was gone for an hour then came back in middle of getting some food from the fridge.

The only explanation he came up with was he was "raptured".

Same thing happened on New Years Eve for him.

So I don't know, does that play into his "ultimate reality" vision?

WarJohn if for once you would return, please answer that one.

Rapture includes the entire body, not just the mind.

Would he have also remembered it?

No.

In looking for a more "down to Earth" explanation, suggested perhaps he had a bit too much to drink, seeing as those are days that beer is drank.

He didn't answer.

So you're looking for a down to earth answer to an event that is decidedly not down to earth?

Draw me a mosaic answering this trigonometry question...it's just as easy as your request.

I'm guessing "ultimate reality" MAY mean to you a personal "enlightenment"

Maybe.

Don't mean to assume, just guessing.

But that is so subjective, it is almost meaningless IMO to discuss it very much because every single person ever to have lived and ever to live in the future can have vastly different concepts of this.

Sorry, I'm a skeptic at heart and I live as though I may never Truly KNOW anything.

But I was partially serious about the death thing. Partially.
edit on 5/31/2012 by Chamberf=6 because: btw: Draw a mosaic? Are mosaics even drawn?
