Where did this idea come from anyways:
It`s quite obvious to anyone with integrity that it doesn`t make the top 3 even.
Quit making excuses please, for your irrational hatred of people you fear or do not understand. Discuss

This is an axiom frequently used as an argument against all religions.

It is entirely unfounded, in my opinion. The leading cause of most wars and deaths is selfishness, either individually or collectively.

Selfishness encapsulates money, greed, power, covetousness, fear, rage, and countless other concepts that contribute to war and death. What source of war and premature death (i.e. not from natural causes) cannot be connected in some way or another to selfishness?

Bam!
Atleast SOMEONE understood the purpose of this thread so far lol, I was going to say just simply money, valuables or land are by far ahead of religion but you summed it up nicely. Peace

My top 3 would be

Religion
Nationalism
Racism

I have a Simple question for you... Why can't Israel get along with it's neighbors?

It is probably the most intellectual thing that they coax from their neuron or two.

Wars are fought for control, resources and power and are usually triggered by lunatics who think that the deserve more than nature gives them.

Here's a question for the "all things good are evil" believers: What religious idea or concept initiated the First and Second World Wars?

Nice way to initiate discussion.

I was only opening this thread just to see ignorance as it happens.

Then again...

We have to stop the mindset of blame. Self reflection can lead to a rewarding humility. Spreading old ideals leads to old ideas... S+F

Because of a very old feud.

Now, I also have a simple question for you...

What is honorable or courageous about being armed to the teeth with superior weaponry and initiating conflict in other sovereign (and usually historically 3rd world) nations?

Could the belief that you have a "right" to be there and to defend against some vaporous perceived threat be because you cannot conceive that it isn't yours and and you shouldn't be there?

What does that have to do with Religion, Nationalism or Racism?

Discuss.

Nothing in those two particular wars that you quoted had anything to do with religion.

Now you answer my questions

Why Can't Israel get along with it's neighbors.

Why can't India & Pakistan get along *Hint, It wasn't Kashmir

What's a Jihad?

What caused The Thirty Year's War?

What caused the 1948 Arab-Israeli War?

What caused Lebanese Civil War?

What caused the War in Darfur?

I'll wait for the answers before I go on...

See, I'd have no problem with the "religion starts wars" crowd if they'd just admit that Secular Humanism is a religion.

And I thought WWII was fueled by Hitler, a man who was positioning himself to supplant himself and country in the place of religion in German-ruled life?

I never said religion started WWII & I've got no horse in this race, I'm agnostic. But to say that religion hasn't caused wars is ignorant (IMHO)

Organized religion is used as a way to control & manipulate the masses, but I'll save that for another forum

As far as I can tell, it's been about money, or, more specifically, the control of money. We may be taught to believe differently, but when the research is done, it seems to always come down to this

I hope you aren`t implying that I think wars are never fought over religion. Because I don`t think that at all, however this cliche is being used to corner religious people which ironically will cause more strife.
Anti religion, secular humanism, whatever you want to call it has caused more trouble than good

...but religion IS the cause of most wars. Of course, not all of them - but a great deal are. It's one of the reasons I hate religion so much. I literally despise the word alone.
