Memorial Day (pics)

Well just got back from Luxemberg. Beautiful country. Spent saturday and sunday morning there. My son's scout troop was tasked with cleaning the memorial stones ad planting flags an placing roses in each marker.
Yeah, the US Ambassador along with a 3-str was there. But this is about remembering and honouring the brave men who gave their lives.

I thought this was poignant (Many were like this.)


The Star of David monuments have small stones on them. These are "Forever Stones" meant to symbolize that even after the monuments are gone, the stone will remain.


Had to take a snap of Pattons grave. It used to be just one among many, but the area kept getting trampled to they moved it to a more secluded apot.


The Medal of Honor awardees all have stars on them. This is the only difference in theirs versus other monuments.

The one personal picture I'll share (I took hundreds) is the honour given to my son and his pack to take down the flag and fold it.


All in all, a touching day. I met vets giving honour to fallen friends, a biker group on Harleys. French, german, Belgium tourists who often stopped us and thanked us for cleaning the markers, and placing the flowers and flags.

I'm not asking for comments, nor debate on this thread. Just wanted to share and hope that everyone takes time, regardless of where you're from to honour your own heroes.

It's Canadian but it applies to anyone that served their country and gave their life for it. Here's a couple more. Much more recent, both from my home province of NS:

I think so too. There are many people, many on ATS as well, that poopoo those that gave their lives for their country. They forget that it was these people that enabled them to have the right to slam them. I find that sad.

Regardless of the country, the ideology, there are always a few select people that are willing to give all for those at (their respective) home.

They should be honoured.

For those who think otherwise? Let them.

Can't say I'm the type to normally get choked up, but saturday had me going several times.

Wow, General Patton, I'm impressed. That guy is a hero.

My Dad was a paratrooper in 82nd during WWII.

He will have our eternal thanks. It was a special day for me and my son. He always sees me as a soldier, playing "games" and just going to work. He is learning more about the honour and dignity that goes into becoming a soldier (I hope he never enlists though).

Me? I was humbled. I looked at the sacrifices these men made and it humbled me.

I don't care what people here say, the troops are giving their service in honor and sacrifice and they deserve every bit of our respect. Defense of our country is important and valuable beyond measure. I have a deeply spiritual outlook. I once attended a lecture by General Keegan. The man deserves everyone's respect as his heart was totally in the right place.

I don't care either about the opinions of others because it doesn't influence the dignity and dedication of so many.
