LD is not light years, it's lunar distance. Which means it's 0.1 times the distance from the Earth to the moon. Nowhere near light years.
So the actual distance the asteroid is, is 38,440 km away from Earth.

as well... it was .6 LD's away in its miss distance... this is .1.

Lunar distance being, the distance from Earth to the Moon... which is an average of 384,400 kilometers(238,855 miles)
If I'm not mistaken, JPL and other agencies, actually use a different distance other than 384,000... they use a specific distance that is present during a specific orientation. I could be wrong though.

That puts this one passing at 23, 855 miles away from earth?

Is that enough to alter its path? I wonder how close it comes to the sun if this is the case... I'm sure the sun will just blast this thing into dust, and it will be the last we ever see of it.

Well since the Earth's surface is mostly covered by water than it could hit the ocean and possibly cause some sort of tsunami event.
That could put locations a decent distance away in danger as well if they are on low lying coastal zones.

Anyone care to calculate the size of a tsunami wave from a 26m meteorite impact?

Pieces of rock like this have hit the Earth many times in the last century.

Here is a list beginning with the famous Tunguska event. Not all of the events might be from space.

Really surprised no one has made a thread for the one coming even closer, I don't really know how, and am at work so it would prob not be so good but someone take a look at 2012 KT42 that is going to be the six closest near earth asteroid passing some 0.05 LD or 14,000 km's above earth surface in the geosynchronous satellites range passing over today May 29th

Does anyone know what sort of calamity 1 of these things would do if it per say took out a satellite, could we have a chain reaction pile up so to speak. With debris taking out multiple satelittes or do they have contingency plans exactely for these type of circumstances????
