i'm really asking this so don't be offended. in the past or right now, what country has had socialism that was successful for everybody? you know, that truly worked and was not corrupt? (yes i'm aware the US gov is corrupt anyway)

Sure materialism and consumerism can be problems, but tell me which you'd choose.

a) Raise a calf into a cow over a few years, slaughter it, cook, and have a steak.
b)Drive a mile or two, swipe a card, and have a steak.

You can't really blame the people for modern life as much as you can blame a person for being addicted to meth.
Human nature is predictable, and in a day and age where the 7 deadly sins are an afterthought, death/collapse happens.

Your real issue with society is an epidemic of pride which manifests as "entitlement" and leads to the other deadly sins.

Honestly, all country leaders are corrupted to a certain degree. The previous communist block are actually very corrupted in very visible ways. The capitalist is well hidden under the capitalism flag - anyone have the right to be rich.

On capitalist/different economy structure, the corruption is well hidden due to the nature of capitalism - anybody can get rich - so is the leader. As capitalist leader, you can siphon all you can from the government as long you are the leader, either by bribe, crony or military.

On socialist based economy, you cannot siphon but you can keep, so you do what most socialist leader done - stay in power by any means, usually by force, military or crony.

Greed is major factor in all economy type and its really a major problem with leaders. If you saw 1000 bar of gold on the table, as a leader, taking 5 is ok right ? No doubt its very tempting to do such.

The best is marriage of both - Democratic Communist - Where leaders elected, given power but receive the same benefit. Even this is susceptible to corruption but to a lesser degree.

No matter what the economic type used, its always fell on the leader himself to contain the greed or to serve.

i don't honestly know much about china and how their communist government works. the founders would obviously disagree with you. i think the only way to keep any government in line is for the people to stand up and kick some @$$. sucks but it seems to be the only thing that changes anything. and to stay on topic, i really don't think capitalism is to blame for the way people think now. i'm sure there are MANY people who are socialists who do the same crap that is in the post.

I believe capitalism is the one to blame. Democracy works, no doubt, but when combine with capitalism, its a disaster to human race.

Advantage
Capitalism - technological innovation and motivation
Socialism - equality in distribution of wealth, no more suffering/life pressure and injustice.

Disadvantage
Capitalism - Wealth distribution vary greatly, enslaving the chaotic slaves.
Socialism - Innovation is slow, theres no pressure to progress further.

Which do you prefer ?
Raising cows for somebody else who will give you a jug of milk (he gets all the steak and milk)
or
Raising cows for everyone and everybody get a glass of milk and half a chop of steak ?
