Timmins has declared a state of emergency due to the massive Gogama forest fire which is estimated to be 10-times the size of the Kirkland Lake fire. The Timmins Airport has been closed. Kamiskotia & 6 other townships on the west side of Timmins are being evacuated. The Kidd Creek Mine night shift has been cancelled.

Sure hope this does not turn in a repeats of 1911 great forest fire

The Great Porcupine Fire of 1911 was one of the most devastating forest fires ever to strike the Ontario northland. Spring had come early that year, followed by an abnormally hot dry spell that lasted into the summer. This created ideal conditions for the ensuing disaster, in which a number of smaller fires converged.
Porcupine, a community on the north side of Porcupine Lake, in the city of Timmins, Ontario, Canada, was the site of a huge gold discovery in 1907. On July 11, 1911, when the Porcupine Gold Rush was at its height, a gale from the southwest whipped some small bush fires into flames. As the fire gained strength, it engulfed the tinder-dry forest, razing everything in its path.

This sounds really bad. I am hoping that
the fires can be contained without loss of
life and property.

Does anyone know of a map to show the
area the fires cover?

I'll send the rain to quench the fires in North America. It may take a while to manufacture the clouds. I only can make enough to cover a couple of acres in a week so it might take about twenty years.
If I was younger I could do a rain dance for more than ten minutes, Maybe someone could get an outdoor party started and hire a band. It usually rains at those sort of events.

The CBC apparently doesn't consider this a news priority; no mention on either their

Updater Friday May 25, 2012 – 08:00 a.m.– TIMMINS Forest Fire No. 9 is still growing and not under control. The largest forest fire in Canada continues to be the main focus of effort by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, the City of Timmins and all its emergency services.

The fire is burning in several townships in the far western area of the city with the leading edge of the fire being near the junction of Highway 101 West and Highway 144. Karen Passmore, information officer with the MNR, reported on a live CBC Radio chat this morning that the fire is greater than 31,000 hectares.
