Al Qaeda video calls for electronic jihad on government computers

A video purportedly from al Qaeda that promotes cyberattacks on the U.S. electric grid is being circulated by Senate backers of legislation to regulate the computer security of critical industries, including power companies.

The video includes a U.S. television clip featuring cyber analyst James Lewis and former National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell discussing the vulnerabilities of government and private networks. Congress and the White House are trying to strengthen cybersecurity laws.

We all need to sit back and understand how deep these new laws that we keep hearing about across the world regarding internet censorship really are. It isnt about what or who can post online but rather a complete control on your activities. Sure this doesnt sound new given the recent internet outcry of sopa, but we also should take into consideration that however you or myself might feel about censorship there are skillful individuals who use that anger and energy in diverting it to specific target groups for purposes that are known the majority of the public.

Here is a link regarding the article video being mentioned and do take the time to read how one links such videos to incidents across the world. Remember, this thread requires some thinking and not blind click and reply.article

Not everything around Al Quedia is something we should shrug our shoulders to. As they are an ideology similar to how recent other ideologies have exploded across the net, although i do not approve of censorship but as in any nation one must protect its borders so to this applies to protecting one's cyber borders. That is my point.

Al CIA'da wants an electronic Jehad.... more like AlFBIá or Air Force -- maybe even Darpa, look - remember the Melissa Virus.... Humm... how long did it take the FBI to arrest the kid who put the code into the wild... a whole 4 hours ... and they want you to believe some Arabs way over there are going to do something -- and they will do exactly what ? deface a few web pages.... come on -- what ever it is you had better believe it will damage you but not the systems that need damaging to keep the people Free and Self Sufficient.

This doesn't seem that new of news... Hasn't AQ been trying to hack and slash their way through the western firewalls for a while now? Not only that but I am sure that TPTB has everything they needed back up on servers, which are back up on more servers and then some. Servers backing up servers. I just don't see them doing much of anything. Comparing the two different techs, AQ has a looooong way to go before they can take down the power grid of the west. I think that requires hacking of satelites and such. Good luck with that.

They are a little late. Iran has been engaged in a cyber war against the USA (from Central America) for a while now. For Al Qaeda to call for this is kinda silly. They missed the boat ....

I'm becoming very tired of the public falling for the continual "Al Qaeda," hoaxes, justifying the loss of civil liberties. How long is this going to continue to be accepted?

In a way it is ingenious; because no matter how many of us are able to see through it, there will probably always be a majority who are sufficiently intellectually disabled, that they will continue to believe the lies.

Al Qaeda is THE greatest invention of the government to take away our basic liberties. I still can't believe how they use it as the Ultimate Excuse to "justify" increased security and limitations on the population. I can only imagine the number of people getting very Rich off of all the paranoia hysteria it generates. Massive defense spending, surveillance systems etc. It's probably a logical outgrowth of nonsense products which nobody at one time would ever buy, like Caller I.D.--but introduce some Threat to generate Paranoia and everyone's out to "protect themselves" and a best-seller is born. "It's all for your own good. Because we Care about your Safety and American lives" blah blah blah. How many people really believe this crap?
