German Police remove helmets and join " Blockupy" Frankfurt (( March))

source: www.globalwinnipeg.com

"German police officers escort an anti-capitalism protest march with some 20,000 people in Frankfurt, Germany, Saturday, May 19, 2012. Protesters peacefully filled the city center of continental Europe's biggest financial hub in their protest against the dominance of banks and what they perceive to be untamed capitalism""

I'm well aware this could simply have been a matter of a new policing tactic...but even so..I loved this. A sign I hope of more to come as people start to see reason and the reason behind most of the worlds current troubles.

The video shows several divisions of officers removing their helmets and appearing to join the march and one division leading the march as others walk beside and intermingle through protestors or simply 'deactivate' and stand aside.

Perhaps Greece's condition...and how it arrived there, has woken a few more nations of the EU up. Perhaps not..I don't know..but even if it is just a new tactic..its certainly a better and more humane and respectful one than slamming heads with truncheons.

In stark contrast to the Chicago "Occupy" movement, which was very funny watching kids run block to block not knowing what the hell there doing.

police didn't 'join the march'. You changed the correct headline, which, from your source, reads:

/20000 people march at a frankfurt occupy protest german police and was from 4 days ago.

First, I searched here and there was nothing reported on this topic I could find. Secondly the headline isn't mine, its direct from the Occupy Montreal web site and it is being widely reported esp though police.net and through blockupy themselves as ' police joined the march'.

If this headline is incorrect it is only in the words 'police joined blockupy' which could mislead some to think the police service itself joined the movement officially..which they haven't as far as Frankfurt police news says....however they did join the blockupy march that day though..and the video shows this quite clearly. The absent of helmet division, that according to people on the day, arrived on scene fully helmeted, 'de-helmeted' onsite and then led them right to their objective.

Ive now included the words " march" in the headline now..noting here that it isn't the original headline.

The headline from your 'source', as posted, is "20,000 people march at a Frankfurt Occupy protest: German police Read it on Global News: Global Winnipeg | 20,000 people march at a Frankfurt Occupy protest: German police"

In 'breaking' news you are supposed to use the exact headline as your source. Its also supposed to be no older than 36 hours. This is datelined 4 days ago.

I'd be interested to know why these cops have their helmits off and appear to be marching 'with' these protesters, but none of your cited articles make any mention of it beyond the one or two photos.

They are escorting the protesters. Germany's usually pretty cool about protests. They even let one protest go off course and swarm the capital building. The police were in shambles for a moment, but everything was cool afterward.

The source of the video which led me to post HAS the headline exactly as stated.

The link to the Winne post was a secondary and placed in the 'other links ' section on my original post...if I made a mistake in doing that so be it, its an error of placement, the post stands. You don't like, don't read/reply, simple.

I also don't see a mod or ATS police stamp beside your name and if mods wish to remove the post..they're welcome to.

As for timing..its taken this long for this news to hit my shores..so I am posting in within the first 24hrs after it arrived..such is the nature of the machine that generally keeps this news from my shores. Again..if mods wish to delete..they can.

have a nice day.

So where is that link? It's not anywhere in your OP.

Also, where is the proof in ANY of your links that the police 'joined' the march, as your headline claims?

Ive already written it could simply be a new policing tactic for occupy marches...comparative to the policing responses to most of them around the world this was amazing - and that's what I was applauding. Viewing the video they do seem to be laughing..joking around..walking beside..not just 'policing'....but if that is just typical German policing though..more of it is all I can say!!

LOL..now that is funny. I was thinking the same thing. But, it seems the German Gestapo (which is the term they use over in the US now for our Riot Police) is a little less forceful and intimidating.

In the breaking news section it says to add ' your comments'..and I did..and it separated them into two posts - not my issue.
In the ' my comments' I linked to the you tube video directly. Again, an error of placement not a reason for such aggressive paranoia.

ahhh k....just saw the other posts and thought wtf??

Hmm..I am not sure about markets. They did arrest several hundred in a near riot only a short time ago for 'unauthorized' protesting and 'occupying' streets. So I am leaning more towards this being a case of applied instruction - 'see you work with us( police)..we support you - work against or in opposition to us..we wont".
I'm thinking maybe German police are trying this style to separate violent anarchists from other protestors and any market affect is just of the ' notice served' variety...who knows..time will tell I suppose. .

Rosha

It's not aggressive paranoia; there's a strict standard for BAN forum threads, and the exact title of the article you're quoting from is the biggest standard. The article you quote from is not titled such, your YouTube video in the opinions post is titled "#blockupy. Frankfurt am Main, 19. Mai 2012" and there's no headline like yours in any of the supporting links either. He's just asking where the title came from, especially because that would be the source to go to if we wanted to verify the veracity of your assertion that the police actually "joined" the march. It looks like they just took their helmets off while on an assigned march escort.

The police have it so backwards when it comes to dealing with protest's.

Instead of acceprting it as inevitable and doing their best to appear the good guys by communicating and not acting in a threating manner. Or act like they are afraid with sheilds and helmets.

If they were cool with the activists from the start they'd have some pull with the leadership if things started escalating. Instead they go into it with the attitude of pissed off cop determined to stop something that cannot be stopped.
