As a libertarian, I am against hate-crime laws.
If you punch someone in the head and it wasn't self defense, then you need to be punished for punching them in the head. You should not be punished for what you were thinking when you did it.
Chances are, if a person punches another person of the same race in the head, it wasn't because they loved them. More than likely, they hated them.

I completely agree with you here... I want the hate crime laws to go away completely... They are so ridiculous.. being Politically correct is almost killing this country (its def. making us weaker)

5. a burden to society in general
they are an embarrassment to people in general. No , my comment was not just for "reaction". now, i don't know if you have ever met any "crackers" in person; maybe you have watched a reality show were the are featured but you don't get the full effect unless you meet one in person. I would love to see a black man come on here and make the same comment i did about the "crackers" of his society , if we could start and get rid of all the burdens to society or make them less of a burden to society the world would be a better place.

I know what a hate crime is, and what isn't. two people already fighting and starting racist crap is not a hate crime as the definition goes...it is a crime filled with hate mind you, but the crime itself was not specifically initiated due to racial motivations...

Let me give you a different scenario that might make you understand
You shoot a woman because she cursed at you.
you then find out she has a baby..and you say. I hate babies!
did you shoot the woman because she had a baby, or was the baby simply a detail that had no causation for the crime?

So now consider this crime you speak of
did these two women target that woman because she was white, or was that just a detail that had little to do with the initial crime?

hate crimes are pretty clear cut
if the crime was committed due to racial motivations exclusively, then its a hate crime.

I don't know if Zim did a hate crime...will defer that to the judgement of the legal scholars looking into the case..its a bit gray and until all the facts come out, its just being yacked at by uneducated armchair executioners and apologists alike...neither of which matter in their opinion.

The problem with that is where do you draw the line?
After you finish cleaning out the trash according to guidelines set beforehand, you find that you have a whole new set of people that are 'the trash' at the bottom level of society.
A similar thing happened during the French Revolution. The original revolutionaries found themselves lying on the board at the guillotine after the mobs ran out of their original 'enemies' to execute.

It is odd, isn't it.
I think the idea of it was to be temporary...you can't remove a slave class to a people and think the next day there will be easy integration into society...the thought is good for setting the bar to a equal field..
but it is time we start considering the removal of it due to it now being arguably just a divider verses an tool for equalization.

A crime outside of racially motivated however is likely far more complex and nuanced than just..."I don't like that color, lets hurt him"
So, maybe we can replace the word hate with "simple" crime. aka, if your reasons to commit a crime were not of any complex needs, then it is worse than trying to satisfy a greater need for yourself
hell, stealing sneakers because they look cool is complex...requires a need for clothing, artistic merit, etc..

pointing at a color and saying "hurt that..its ugly"...ya, thats simple...simple minds needs to be punished in a complex world

well my first suggestion would be to try and educated them so they become less of a burden to society. next, make being a burden to society to much trouble. so many people live on social services because it is easy; i would make the able bodied do hard manual labor for their benefits. this would get needed projects done and give people a reason to get off social services. we could always take the KKK and the Black Panthers lock them all up in a big room with plenty of weapons and let them .... work it out.

if we clean out all the trash; society become better and the bottom rung will see what happened to their predecessors and by fear or just the want to become a better person will make the right choice

However, the term "cracker" is not what most might think -
Here is one traditional explanation -

That it describes the crack of the whip from slave owners and overseers, hence "cracker".

Another explanation is that poor white southerners lived in houses shaped like cracker boxes.

What I believe to be the true explanation is that during the Civil war liberated blacks would follow the Union soldiers. Being unable to feed themselves they were forced into begging soldiers for sustenance. Every Union soldier was issued hardtack biscuits often called crackers which they disdained as inedible. Hence, the former slaves would stand by the columns of moving troops asking for "crackers?" as it was the food item they would most likely be willing to part with. The name became attached to whites but the reason for it being forgotten is that it was seen as "undignified". There is nothing undignified in begging if you have no other choice but to beg for the food the troops would be willing to part with.
