Grieving pit bull stays with dead mate for 14 HOURS... and four days later, he's still so sad he can't be adopted

This poor dog stayed beside its dead mate for 14 hours and now it is so depressed it is thought it won't be able to be adopted.

On Friday, the female pit bull was killed by a car on South 16th Street in Phoenix, but her partner refused to abandon her.

The male dog stayed by her side for more than 14 hours before Animal Control removed her body and now, they say, he is still so depressed he may not be able to find a home to adopt him.

Mr Silva thinks that the dogs may have an owner because the male had a harness on him when he was found.

However, that person has not emerged to claim him. Without an owner, the male pit bull's future is uncertain.

'If he continues to show these signs of withdrawal we will place him in a recovery home that can help him with his grieving,' Mr Silva said. 'I am not certain we will be placing him up for adoption.'

Beautiful dogs. I have 3 pitbulls myself as well as 3 others I had previously. Unshakeable loyalty is one of the hallmarks of the breed.
I'm feeling for this poor guy right now, although I don't buy that he won't eventually shake it off and remain unadoptable. Dogs have an amazing ability to adapt and get on with it.

Hang in there big guy.

animals feel much more than people think they do... animals can feel emotional pain as well as physical... that should be obvious to everyone in todays world... but sadly in many cases it is not..

ive always had dogs and have seen this behaviour before first hand...
last year early spring, i found a little black and white cocker spaniel (alfie), who seemed lost. eventually no owners came forward so we kept him. we only had him 4 months he had gone to the vets to get castrated and never returned.....

whilst we had him, he became great friends with my 7 year old black labrador, Blake. when my friends brought alfie back in their van, they stopped to pick me and blake up... when we got in blake sniffed at alfie and made a low sounding really sad howl... it was heart breaking... he lay beside alfie for hours, till we eventually buried him later that day... for a week blake was depressed it was obvious... he didnt eat for 5 days...! which is unheard of for blake and many labradors alike... so he was clearly very sad to have lost his friend....

The poor thing,what must it be like for him at the moment?Wished I lived in Phoenix I'd take him like a shot.
I hope that his companions death was quick and that she didn't suffer.Rest in Peace little one.
