Well, since hes the only one to photograph it It's nothing. Prob a smudge on lens

Awesome photo, I'm going with aircraft+contrails, it clearly looks like 2 distinct contrails coming from 2/4 engines.

Or it could be a lens smudge, but looking at the quality of the photo, I doubt it.

I read the comments on the photo.

Several said "dust on the lense". (sounds like Phage)
A couple said smudge.
One guy said a jet flying with contrails behind it. - Seems kinda plausible since the guy said he has a series of images of it flying across.



It's a neat photo though.

I saw the same thing Friday evening near the horizon as I was setting up my telescope at a dark sky park. I viewed it through the finder scope and through a 40mm eyepiece, but could not resolve the object. Looked like contrails, though I don't believe I have ever seen contrails similarly shaped before.

Agree totally. Looks less like contrails, and more like comet trails.

It's a plane with visible contrails.

I think it could easily be a jet with a short contrail.
Obviously I can't be "100% sure", but it certainly looks like one.

Please see the post above by 'zayonara', which includes a time lapse video that shows the object moving.

The apparent motion of a comet in the sky is very, very slow. You really can't notice the movement of a comet, other than the nightly motion caused by the Earth rotating below it -- but that's the same reason the stars appear to move slowly during the night. A comet will hang in one general position in the sky (relative to the rest of the background stars) for days at a time, and can remain in our skies for weeks.
