Here's what you do OP, contact ManPower, Sapphire, Randstad, Spherion Corp, etc.., get in their systems as a temp, take anything they call you up for, short assignments sometimes / daily ones in fact. A great majority of companies hire temp-to-perm anyway. Get in the door, show them what you can do, have a positive attitude, wear your best clothes for the interview and be overly polite and embellish yourself a little.

20yrs ago I signed up with ProStaff and took what they gave me. One week was unloading semi's full of packages and putting them on a conveyor belt for 12hr shifts. I didn't complain and kept showing up. A month later I landed an assembly job building mainframe computers, that was the ticket for my future job hunting.

Another thing to do is create a profile on LinkedIn or Monster and get a resume up there. I am employed, but constantly get job offers from recruiters who look at my resume (keep it updated). I am content with my job, but if the right opportunity comes from a headhunter or recruiter, I'm taking it.

Another idea, get some basic PC certifications, like A+ (easy), and create a profile as a provider on FieldNation or OnForce. Those are instant tech temp jobs that companies like ATT, HP, Apple, Dell, etc.. use to find local people to go out on small-medium-large jobs. Your taxes and payroll are handled by the internet platform, but you represent the companies that are contracting you.
Get a basic set of hand-tools, set your hourly rate low, and willing to travel distance as far, and you'll get offers.
Sometimes high-level technicians need assistants or helpers and they contract them through those types of companies. The platforms take 10% +/- of your pay. You negotiate each job/workorder with the buyers.

Stay positive, try to get interviews regardless of your experience. Sell yourself; that's what it takes.

The only problem is that you reach "maximum capacity" quick.
AKA DEAD END JOB
but yeah, if you have no goals then proceed..
or... I mean, if your goal is to drive a truck for 20 yrs to buy a mediocre home.,.

Wow, this exemplifies the attitude today! No creativity or out of the box thinking!

So you think driving truck is a mediocre profession that will give you a mediocre lifestyle? How about learning to drive the truck then buy your own? Then you have your own business making more than most white collar professionals!

Dead end job!
I know your type!

LMFAO
Bro.. I was half serious but yeah, it's a different game if you own a rig. I know a few truckers and they don't make enough to live FREE.
Not to mention the strange shifts but I digress.. I suppose it;s not "dead end" but in my view it is. Because.. I would try to hit every road runner if I were king of the road

Those guys you know must have a lot of child support or alimony....You can live in your truck and they are pretty nice today if you get a good one. The only way to do that is be a good driver and not hit every road runner you see!
That was a good one! I used to tag the orange barrels once in a while late at night... Just whip my trailer and fling those suckers into the ditch..

Most new OTR rigs are like condos and if you are single you are way better off. If you are young, no education and very little prospects, you can really bank some cash doing this. Maybe ride out the bad times in one of these and then go to school full time with your savings if that is your goal.

I drove truck for 10 years before I went back to school for I.T. and now I work with Dynamics CRM making a bit over 70k. Funny thing is, I didn't go to school for CRM. It was all self taught on the job and burning countless nights in front of a computer.

I still keep my CDL current in case I need to go run down "road runner" again...

2 of them ship merch. and the other expensive electronics/stage eqipmnt. The merch guys make peanuts but then again, it's not their ride. The dude who moves electronics makes more than 100$/hr averaged but he's on call and sometimes doesn't get his usual hrs. Depends on the industry obviously.

70k? nice
So you are a specialist too? Or// sorry I don't know what crm is.

I was offered a job with the electronic movers but I have my own path to cut. I can't just change it up and be miserable driving a truck, smashing through flocks of birds and speeding up at roadrunners for thrills.

Go get one of these jobs.
Truck Driving Jobs

You will rarely have to speak to anyone other than getting a bill of lading signed off on and or explaining to your crazy dispatcher that can't travel travel 500 miles in 3, 5 or even 10 hours in a blizzard.

Well that sure would be a problem working in a society, be it civilized or not. It seems your take is, we are all nuts!
Sorry about that man...

No one said humanity was perfect. I find most of the humans I run into tolerable for the most part. At least tolerable enough to get my pay check and run home to the wife so she can spend it all and I have to go back again the next week...

I feel for you. honestly. I feel for those who feel like a bread machine.

but as for the differences between people who can tolerate others and those who have a harder time... maybe some of us are just too interesting to not have a bunch of noses up our butts.

that's all I can say about that. until you know what others have been through... you just don't know.
I'm not complaining about being who I am... but that's a long looong story... and you probably wouldn't believe it anyway.

But Egyptians did that before the revolution, too, so it's not new or unusual.

Now I am confused. You are not Egyptian but you live there? If I might inquire, and I understand if you decline, what is your nationality?

Normal protests in the street. Okay... That whole thing Egypt just went thru was not normal. I know you say there is now more opportunity and of that I am glad. But the recent elections, have they been honored? Did the people of Egypt elect the ones they wanted? Are they in power? I heard not. I heard that there is still poverty and unemployment on a grand scale. This makes any improvement you speak of sound like a bone thrown to a starving dog. Just wondering...

See, here in America we commend the revolution like in Tunisia, Yemen, Bahrain, etc. This is Arab Spring , right? People yearning to be free? In America we hardly lift a finger with our small Occupy Wall Street. Many people have yet to rise and protest our Government and Corporate Military Monopoly. We are too afraid. And not hungry enough, yet.

But Egyptians risked life and limb, risked all to overthrow Mubarak (puppet of the west) and we are in awe of your strength to do that. Now you say that you have won... I guess that depends on where you live in the country and where you are from. So, our media is lying to us maybe to throw us off?

Wrong and really wrong !

A single person can barely get by on $7.50 per hour and for you to believe that you need at least $10 per hour to start a family is insane. How could you even think that you could put a roof over a child's head, feed them properly, clothe them (nevermind any sort of sport or musical activities) for $10 an hour?

And that's why you turn to selling dope and murdering.

YOU NEED HELP and quick IF THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE THINKING ,!!

Also, advice to all job seekers, especially the young, sometimes getting a good position requires passing a background check and drug screen.

Lay off the illegal stuff, it may prevent you from applying for an open position that upfront tells you "Drug Screen Required", or you may get an offer only to find out that passing a drug test is part of the process.

You should be saving your money for other things anyway (especially if you are unemployed).

Not pointing fingers at anyone; just advice.

hell, if I get desperate enough I'll just eat some dandelion greens.
food isn't one of my problems. I can hardly stomach the food I do have.

my problem is people... people are freaking crazy!

Haha it just works, no pun intended obviously..

So why the frack are so many resources being used up to feed cattle? It doesn't need to be that way. There is much grass to be had, by the cattle and sheep (us)

I fixed that link...

My first load was out through PA. I picked up a very heavy load of salt in Port Huron Michigan and had to drive it out to Baltimore Maryland. I hit PA about 7:30 pm. It was all mountains and it was night time! I was very heavy going out and I picked up a load of potato chips on the way back, so I was very light on my return trip.

The worst part about driving truck is not the weather, backing up or "inclines." Its the 4 wheeler's out there. Those people in cars that think you can stop on a dime.

If you can stay on the open road and just drop and hook you would be a perfect candidate for driving a truck. My secret was books on tape or CD. A good book on tape will get you 10 hours down the road and its way better than a movie! Now they have rentals at truck stops. It's like going to rent a movie... Then again, you can just use an IPOD or IPAD and just download them from apple.

Although I am a computer guy and I do make a good living, I still miss the road. The smell of diesel fuel triggers so many fond memories of my early days as a human!

that's just the statistics... they don't feed cattle grass and if they did they would eat ALOT of it. they feed them corn. mostly... i mean some get fed grasses but it's mostly corn. So basically they grow whole crops to feed the cows when the land to grow the corn could be used for something else since we already grow a lot of corn.. and there is the environmental effects that it has as well. maybe i will dig up some article on it but I have read some on it and it is environmentally and economically unsound to make beef our number one food choice... and the majority of the time that is what people reach for first... the hamburger, the steak, the meatballs, the beef tacos.

there's actually better proteins in sprouts when you take a handful of seeds and sprout them... and they are not c reactive proteins, they are good proteins. everyone thinks the meat is where the good proteins are but this is actually not the case.
but yeah, i'm a piscatarian ( mostly avoid meat but I eat fish) and eating sprouts is hard for me even. i mean they don't taste bad but it is hard to get used to eating a bunch of sprouts. they kind of make you crave more indulgent things if you can't discipline yourself enough to adjust. You try eating sprouts primarily and you will wind up grabbing for sweets or oils or something heavier. it's just hard to get used to. plus, eat the wrong sprouts and weird things might start happening... like eat red clover sprouts which is REALLY good for you but then you start sweating like crazy a half an hour after eating them. it's weird. some sprouts just have some intense properties to them.

A friend of mine is looking for a job in teaching, so far no success, and as for me, luck always finds it's way to me.

I share in your feelings of anger towards those that are being dumb and shipping off their product to be made cheaply. The company that I work for has no choice but to ship most of their assembly product to China and have it returned with a 90% success rate of working. When done at home/work, you know the problem and know how to take it apart and put it back together.

I question, How far are people willing to fall to get this imaginary paper that keep us in bondage?

And why live and work for paper?

i have ridden in trucks with relatives on hauls and know what you are referring to. it actually sounds like a lot of fun. I have seriously thought about this, but just imagining driving on some of those mountain roads makes me nervous. I get nervous riding in a car in real mountainous areas. it just kind of makes my head spin. i'd much rather be on my feet up in the mountains.

i also know what you mean about not being able to stop on a dime because in a car i have had trucks rush up on my tail when trying to turn and almost hit me. trucks can be very dangerous but i am not one to tailgate.. or anywhere close for that matter... or speed... except on the rare occasion I loose my head but that hasn't happened in years. that in itself might create a new problem though because some truckers claim they can't make it without speeding. that would be a huge problem for me because i do not like to speed. i like to take my time and try to stay away from other drivers as much as possible because you never know what they are going to do.

In a truck though, i could imagine myself stopped on the side of the road because i can't bring myself to drive on certain mountainous roads. that would suck to be in that position. just thinking about it makes me dizzy.

if i could drive for a company mainly in the south with a company that expected their drivers to drive SLOW... not fast, then that might be alright.

all that paper does is create endless loopholes for the ptb to exploit. they made the paper to get the gold off the street, because IT has actual value. and we chase it around and some of us will never win. one sure fire way for the young to get a job is join the military but that is playing right into their hand. that is what they want. i'm not knocking those who joined, i actually thought about that myself years ago... but you know this is how they keep their war machine going. If people were not so ready to take orders without question, they would think twice before going and picking fights with all these other countries.

but then they will just spend our tax dollars on building more drones to do the jobs that people refuse to do when they see through it.

pretty soon it will be robot wars... as some have predicted.

maybe we need to just build robot protesters and rebels. and then they can shoot down our robot rebels with their robot drones.

we need to get some rich hippy investors in on that!

This was an awesome response, I'd like also to pray for everyone hurting in this situation. Being unemployed for many months some years ago really damaged my perception of self-worth, but remember this is a social construct, our value is not what humankind 'assigns' to us, God loves and wants to best for us all.

Well there are jobs in Sacramento Ca, my husband works at a church on the weekends and at Fedex Mon-Fri, never has a day off except major holidays and even then sometimes the church needs him then too.

Did it take him a while to get these jobs? yes..9 months to be exact and he kept trying and finally got in.

Sometimes you do what you have to do, even if it means not doing your dream job.

Dude you are just too awesome! Smashing through flocks of birds! That was classic! What you envision of truck driving, I assure you, its not that!

Yes, I ditched one in Illinois. I was empty in a snow storm and the wind was blowing across the freeway. Another driver that was loaded, heavier than I went by at about 50mph. When he went by my trailer got sucked around on me and I jack knifed in the ditch. I was only doing about 30mph but it was a white knuckle "whimper" all the way in...

Dude, I got married at 16 and worked all kinds of crazy jobs. (Wife was 18, she took advantage of me!)

Mainly I dug ditches in the summer and drove truck locally in the winter until I was 21 and then went on the road. My wife got into a car wreck when I was 28 so I had to get off the road, take care of her and my two kids and go to school. I basically went nuts for an entire two year period going through all of that.

Its an insane world we live in but I got my kids raised and one is off to collage now so I would imagine she is going to have the same opinion about the job market pretty soon. I am still married to the same crazy Native American Indian lady as well.

I guess my point is, I come from a very different generation and I am only 43. I just did what I had to do to make money. Younger people seem to want so much more now a days and they want it faster! I don't blame them, but I don't think that has ever worked?

I disagree i have been looking and applying for jobs that are well below my previous pay scale. And being turned away due to lack of exp.

I seriously do not understand this.

I took a part time job with Mc Donalds opening every morning for breakfast last winter. They trained me, they did not need previous experience.

The person may not have been applying to a McDonalds job. Since there are so many applicants for one job, companies will look for experience even when none is needed.
