I don't think reading 15-20 articles since 2011 is going to be the straw that breaks the camels back for a victim of suicide.

sure, the state of the world might certainly add to depression but what are going to do? erase history? make news illegal? All you really have to do is take a look around at the world. All you really have to do is just look at people in your own community who clearly do not give a crap about others to know that this world is on a losing streak. what are you going to do, give everybody brain damage and dumb them down so they simply can't comprehend the monstrosities inside of the hearts of others?

In my opinion, suicide may be thought about long and oft in a victim, but the act itself is impulsive and occurs most likely after a deeply upsetting situation. one may think negatively about the world and may even talk about it a lot but i think it's clear that things most often occur after one has been in a fight with someone close to them or after being fired from the only job you could find and losing everything you have or yes, even getting way too drunk and therefore depressed and acting on impulse. I think it is likely there was trigger involved... and immediate and very personal trigger. Let's not just believe everything we read at face value. there could be much more to this story than we are seeing here.

I *certainly* don't need people getting on my case for reading the internet.

It actually comes as big relief when I see things being exposed.

A HUGE relief... even if the end is nigh.

Some already know that crap is completely backwards and it doesn't take articles to tell them.

Now imagine being the only one... as opposed to one among many.

Well, I don't know about "civilization" but here is a perspective from the Hindu Vedas

What does Krishna mean by the beginning of creation? According to the Puranas (Vedic histories), there have been innumerable creations in the course of cyclical time. The basic unit of Vedic cyclical time is the day of Brahma, which lasts 4.32 billion years. The day of Brahma (also called a kalpa) is followed by a night of Brahma, also lasting 4.32 billion years. The cycle of days and nights of Brahma goes on for Brahma's lifetime of one hundred years (36,000 nights), equivalent to 311.04 trillion of our human years. During the day of Brahma, life, including human life, is manifest. During the night of Brahma, life is not manifest.

[How the hell can you say that? Never judge others you never knew her so please don't judge her. We all have free will and she did what was best for her. How can you think that is just plain inhumane....

I can judge her anyway I want to. That's what suicide allows people to do. What, are we supposed to run around crying, holding up our hands and declaring how awful the world id?

The lady clearly had sever mental issues or was ignorant to the point where rubbish that gets posted on boards like this made her believe in the absurd.

I do agree she did what was best for her, and what was best for society at the same time.

If she live in a household with two parents, they have to be held to blame as well. total irresponsibility on their part, raising a kid that stupid. They were probably no smarter anyway. Ignorance and idiocy breeds ignorance and idiocy. And that is why the world is so screwed up.

SO you go sit in your hippie drum circle and pray to whatever imaginary invisible elf for her non-existent soul, while the rest of us will go on with our lives knowing that there's one down, and about a million or two more to go.

That is a sad to read about.

Any fan of sites like this should be saddened But at the same time, what a dumb thing to do. I mean, if you think the end of the world is coming, why not wait and see what happens? At worst, you are right and we all die...At best, you live to see another day.

At least that way you have a chance....

Poor girl...I wish her family had been there for her more when she needed them. I wonder what other factors were involved. I suspect there must have been more to it than she just read about of articles about doomsday....

Anyway, It is really sad. I wish peace and love upon her, her family and friends.

Its sucks for sure, no doubt. But lets be honest. Its survival of the fittest. With her mentality those of us that are responsible would be paying for her every bill for the rest of her life. Hate to say it, but with people like her gone, the world is ever so slightly a better place.

Your all thinking it.

I wonder how long it will be before we learn that she was on Prozac or some other "anti-depressant".

I agree that the world is better off for this to be eliminated from the gene pool.

the funny thing that people are forgetting is that we learn about death as children.

what are most people walking around thinking, that we are going to live forever?

I'm sure this girl already knew that one day she would die, perhaps even tomorrow in a car accident. i bet she still rode in cars. you hear about car accidents all the time, does that change the fact that you need to go somewhere.

I think logic says there was most likely more to her suicide than just her browser history.

I have no sympathy for this girl. She seemed to not use any critical thinking, you can't just believe everything you read about these things, you should take everything with a pinch of salt. If you thought the world was going to end, and was so certain that you would hang yourself, then why would you kill yourself anyway? Why not just die when the world ends? At least then there is a chance that you would survive because it's not true (personaly, im not a 2012 believer).

No doubt people will jump on the bandwagon and blame people here and blame people there, but the fact is that there if no one to blame, it is her fault, no one elses. I may sound like a horrid person, or someone lacking in compasion, but in all seriousness, she did it, and it was no one elses fault.

Sorry....see above.

I don't your a horrid person, but here is obviously other contributing factors. People in their right minds don't just kill themselves because they get scared. I definitely do not agree with the people that will defend her by blaming her parents, the internet, or conspiracy theorists. This is her fault and her responsibility as is every suicide.

I warned you all this was going to happen. 2012ers run around treating this whole thing like a game. They need to start realizing that their words do have an impact on the world. While it is most likely true that this girl had other problems going on the fact that 2012 theories pushed her over the edge should give everyone on here pause. To all the people that have been pushing doomsday theories I hope you feel some guilt over this tragedy you helped contribute to. Hopefully that this is the wake up call you need to realize this is not a game and that what is said on here can indeed have an effect on the real world.

R.I.P. Isabel, sadly you won't be the last casualty

Finally some sanity and compassion. Thank you.

A teenager hanged herself after becoming convinced the world would end in 2012 after researching doomsday scenarios on the internet, an inquest heard. Schoolgirl Isabel Taylor, 16, turned to Buddhism after becoming fed up with the 'complications and injustice' of the modern world. But while searching for answers she began researching doomsday scenarios - becoming convinced a nuclear reactor meltdown would end civilisation in the coming months

'She read articles on all different types of things which could make the world end, she read about 15 to 20 articles over the course of 2011 with her best friend. 'The most recent one she read was on sun spots and how if they went wrong it could cause a nuclear reaction.' Increasing numbers of websites devoted to 2012 doomsday scenarios have sprung up online, centred on claims the Mayans believed this is the year the world will end. In France a tiny village named Bugarach has seen visits from doomsday devotees, claiming it will survive any apocalypse event

I thought this was worth bringing to attention the dangers of taking these theories to the extreme.

I have been guilty of going online and researching these things and have even had a very strong urge or even addiction to the doom on the net.

Fact is that it does indeed affect your real offline world.. I found myself getting anxious, moody and thinking what the point of it all was, then finding a way to feed more doom into my life, and still come here every day to get my news, but I learnt after doing my own research, not to take these things too seriously..

RIP Isabel... Your heart was too beautiful for this world..

However...

I did notice in the comments section of the article the way that conspiracy theorists was given the blame for this girls death.. And the comments were quite vehement...

Truth is no conspiracy theorist put the rope around this girls neck.. She did it herself and her family.. But still, a shame... She may even have had an account here..

There truly are odd people in this world who commit the strangest acts. Many times they're unbelievable.

People tend to forget that the girl was 16.....at 16 critical thinking hasnt fully developed yet, and the senerio playing out in a racing 16 yr old mind took a back seat to emotional thinking.

Thats why she hung herself...she was too young to understand the implications of what she was reading, and she took it to heart.

Honestly Im not surprised.....hell 7 year olds hang themselves these days....and they call us nuts for talkin about it.

Nowhere in the article does it provide proof that the girl killed herself because of reading articles about "the end of the world". In fact, the article suggest the parents desperately sought answers. The most they could come up with was "her occasional flippant remarks about the end of the world", or my favorite, "She read 15-20 doomsday articles in 2011."

15-20 articles. *Fascinating*, clearly she was addicted and couldn't pull herself away from 15-20 articles over the course of 12 months.

To me, the biggest indicator is how she sought out eastern religion for recourse, apparently. It seems she felt lonely and misunderstood. Pretty typical reason for suicide, though sad.

It's really nobody's fault. I'm sure the parents weren't "absent terrors", just some kids fall through the cracks. In their agonizing search for answers they found a few things, now it's been turned over to the media and her death is now being used as a weapon. Disgusting.

The media is a harbinger of mental disease. They just clamor for any awful things they can find, so they can spew it forth, for their own version of "doomsday porn". The "Daily Mail" is utter trash, just a complete rag.

It,s a shame this young woman seems to have had no one to put all this " The end is nigh " drivel in to perspective, seeing it for what it is, rubbish. An older person could have told her that deluded persons have been predicting the end of the world for hundreds of years at the very least.
And. that nothing ever happens, or is likely to, as a result of these barmy attention seeking nutters, for that is all they are....

I can't believe she'd kill herself though... seriously, the best part is waiting to find out if it actually happens... if it does than she'd have been screwed anyway. Hanging ones self is such a crude and painful way to die, so much can go wrong.

She only read 15 to 20 articles... that's crap all compared to a real conspiracy theorist. She obviously isn't cut out for this stuff if a bit of light reading causes her to off herself. That's just survival of the fittest coming into play imo, such emotionally weak individuals aren't strong enough for this corrupt world.

Although it is highly unlikely that she killed herself based solely on 2012 theories, that doesn't make much sense. There was most likely an array of different reasons which slowly stripped her of all hope, and reading about 2012 was possibly the last straw.

sucks that she killed herself, but at least she has the answers she's been searching for, for in death no knowledge is kept secret, just sucks that it won't do her no good in that big lake of fire she's frolicking in now :/

What good would going to hell do though? I don't believe in hell because it seems entirely pointless, which is why I don't subscribe to any religion.

I'm not trying to derail the thread. I've just always wondered how spending an eternity in constant punishment would have any benefit on anything. The person wouldn't really learn a lesson if they were there forever, because they would never be able to emerge with any insight. Simply not logical. If anything reincarnation holds more water, because if you fu** up, you're forced to come back and do it again until you get it right.

...And this is why I have said that these sites CAN be dangerous.
Explain it away all you like. Say it was HER choice, etc. The problem is that not everyone out there is capable of distinguishing IDEAS/THEORIES et al with reality.
I wrote about this last week on ATS.
Sad, but not surprising.
I'd expect to hear more stories like this in the next 6 months.
I can't wait until December 22nd... I'll finish my christmas shopping while everyone else is climbing out of their bunkers, realizing the World didn't end and everything is the same as it always was (Even if that just means "still awful")
