1) Irrational fear-mongering conspiracy theorists all move to South America.
2) North America is left with a logical, level headed population who go on to do great things.

I'm okay with this. Need help packing, self proclaimed red pill takers? Heck, I'd even help you guys buy your plane tickets. Just please stay off the internet after you arrive.

I also find it amusing how people are sitting around complaining about nuclear power on the internet, in their air conditioned homes, all possible because of the nuclear power plant they most likely get their power from.

Without nuclear power, how would you guys depress gullible people on the internet?!

And yet all these videos fail to cover the most dangerous aspect of this situation
.. It is the spent fuel rods in reactor building nr. 4.

If there is even a small earthquake happens in the area it could bring the whole reactor building down... and yes it is a high risk zone for earthquakes! Do you know what that means?

It means that the amount of 85, EIGHTYFIVE! times the radiation released at the Chernobyl disaster would be released upon the world. And yes, I'm mad as hell.

The cover up of this is the most despicable act against humanity that has ever happened on the face of the earth. I am certain that General Electric is to blame for that. All the other corrupt things they do iss one thing, but covering up the worst threat to humanity, EVER is a whole other issue.. and for what? Oh no, the world could see the hundreds of similar reactor designs in the US and that it is THEIR design and thus their fault this ever happened. There are safe storage alternatives, called dry casks.. but it COSTS more.. so lets just go ALL IN in this casino gamble, the bets are human civilization.. we like the odds, we could gain financial profit.

This would mean the END OF CIVILIZATION! Everyone would get cancer and die!
EXPOSE IT NOW!

You know, if I thought the planet was on the verge of an extinction level event, I wouldn't be posting about it in some obscure thread on a conspiracy theory website. I would be shouting it from the roof tops, contacting my local media, writing my representatives, quitting my job, stocking up on supplies and moving myself and my loved ones into the hills to prepare for living off the land, in a last ditch effort to give myself and my family at least a fighting chance.

The fact that most of you, in the face of such a terrible event, are just sitting around acting all "depressed" and emo about it, while not actually doing anything about it, can mean only two things:

1) Deep down, you don't seriously believe there's a threat. You believe the chances of nothing happening to be great enough that you're willing to sit things out. Despite this, you're a jerk who still fear mongers on the internet, even though you're not too afraid yourself.

2) You do believe there's a threat, but you're just a terrible person. So what if a terribly cataclysm is about to befall us, my loved ones will just have to deal with it themselves, I'm content just letting everyone figure it out for themselves while I waste time surfing the internet. I could be out saving lives and giving people a chance for the future, but I'm so wrapped up in myself that I can't be bothered to close the browser window and leave the house.

So, there you have it. If you're sitting there spouting this crap on the internet, you're either a huge jerk or a self absorbed and all around bad person. While I think they're crazy, I actually have far more respect for the people who actually are moving to South America over this. While they may be deluded and lack a fundamental understanding of science and radiation, at least they put their concerns into action and instead of just sitting around feeling depressed about their and their family's future, they're doing something that they think will change it for the better.

Some people living nearby would get cancer and die earlier than they otherwise would, 99% of the world's population would be unaffected.

If you're really scared of radiation, don't fly. And live in a lead lined house.

No, if you had read the reports and watched the pertinent videos, they said it had the potential to be 85 times worse if ALL the fuel rods in ALL the buildings were exposed. And no, a small earthquake probably won't bring down anything. Aside from being braced, the containment unit is still incredibly strong. It wasn't the earthquake the first time that caused the disaster, it was the power issues with the tsunami and subsequent fires. I imagine even a fairly hefty earthquake (7 or so), would not cause ill effect.

I agree it's worrisome, but not "omg millions are going to die!" worrisome. The POTENTIAL for further disaster is there, although I think it's vastly overstated. I do feel Japan should swallow its pride or embarrassment or worry about lawsuits, and accept all offers by foreign countries to clean up the mess.

Flying airplanes is unrelated, the amount of radiation you receive from a trip from NY to LA is about four times the background radiation the average person receives per day (meaning if you sit at your chair for 4 days you'll get the same amount), or 2 chest x-rays or eating 400 bananas.. Very little in the grand scale of things.

And you are wrong. According to the OP's first video already 14000 people have died in America alone because of Fukushima. The speaker also has done an investigation and written a book on the aftermath of Chernobyl.. one million deaths. Chernobyl was on main land, the winds still carried the radiation all across Europe and even as far as Canada if memory serves.

Fukushima, however is by the ocean.. they have already dumped large amounts of radiation into the ocean. The effect of the water streams will spread the radiation across the WHOLE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE. Algae will pick up the radiation like a sponge, then small fish will it the algae, then a bigger fish and then we will eat the bigger fish and the radiation will be in us. The radiation will also evaporate with the water and form clouds which will rain down on the earth, this rain will be picked up by cattle like cows eating grass and drinking the water. The radiation will be accumulating in the milk and dairy products that we use. These are just two examples of how the food chain works.

In fact because the direction of the water streams america might be in more peril than the bulk of Japan itself. Why do you think they shut down all the radiation detectors all across western America after the accident? And by the way the amount of radiation from the pool of spent fuel rods in addition to the 3 melted cores is about the same of 20 cores! It is more than all nuclear warheads ever detonated on the face of the earth COMBINED.

This accident would never have been as serious to begin with were it not for GENERAL ELECTRIC designing the pool of spent fuel rods 100 feet, 30m, above ground. A kinder gardener could tell that that is a very bad idea. So because these crooks wanted to SAVE MONEY we are in this #ty situation. ALL dry casks at the plant remain undamaged, IF they had spent a couple of hundred million dollars on safety it would have protected all the spent rods from harm and this would not be an issue.

Japan shut down all their reactors and are researching the possibility of geothermal energy covering their needs and Germany also went green as a result of the accident. Governments must be forced to address the issue and work together with experts of the field. Policies must be implemented to use the newest and safest reactor designs if they are to be used at all. No reactors may be built in high risk zones.

You are right, I messed up since the total amount of Chernobyls the total amount of rods in danger wasn't calculated.

According to an response to Akio Matsumura by Robert Alvarez, former Senior Policy Adviser to the Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for National Security and the Environment at the U.S. Department of Energy:

In recent times, more information about the spent fuel situation at the Fukushima-Dai-Ichi site has become known. It is my understanding that of the 1,532 spent fuel assemblies in reactor No. 304 assemblies are fresh and unirradiated. This then leaves 1,231 irradiated spent fuel rods in pool No. 4, which contain roughly 37 million curies (~1.4E+18 Becquerel) of long-lived radioactivity. The No. 4 pool is about 100 feet above ground, is structurally damaged and is exposed to the open elements. If an earthquake or other event were to cause this pool to drain this could result in a catastrophic radiological fire involving nearly 10 times the amount of Cs-137 released by the Chernobyl accident.

Ambassador Murata strongly stated that if the crippled building of reactor unit 4—with 1,535 fuel assemblies in the spent fuel pool 100 feet (30 meters) above the ground—collapses, not only will it cause a shutdown of all six reactors but will also affect the common spent fuel pool containing 6,375 fuel assemblies, located some 50 meters from reactor 4.

It is actually about 56,6 Chernobyl's. Since 7606 out of 11421 are in danger. But Mr. Matsumura has failed to take into account the amount of rods that are not radioactive in the common spent fuel pool so it might be a little less. Anyhow 10 times Chernobyl is contained only in the 1231 radioactive rods in the structure that is leaning, like the tower of Pisa.

Thank you ipsedixit for importing that video. I screamed and ranted about BP but Fukushima is, I am afraid (up at 3AM this morning thinking about it) going to be worse. Anyone that knows about radiation and nuclear physics (I just know the simple 101 stuff) has got to feel this very well could spell a ELE for life as we now know it on our planet.

California Slammed With Fukushima Radiation

The Journal Environmental Science and Technology reports in a new study that the Fukushima radiation plume contacted North America at California “with greatest exposure in central and southern California”, and that Southern California's seaweed tested over 500% higher for radioactive iodine-131 than anywhere else in the U.S. and Canada:

Projected paths of the radioactive atmospheric plume emanating from the Fukushima reactors, best described as airborne particles or aerosols for 131I, 137Cs, and 35S, and subsequent atmospheric monitoring showed it coming in contact with the North American continent at California, with greatest exposure in central and southern California. Government monitoring sites in Anaheim (southern California) recorded peak airborne concentrations of 131I at 1.9 pCi m−3

Anaheim is where Disneyland is located.

EneNews summarizes the data:

Corona Del Mar (Highest in Southern California)

2.5 Bq/gdwt (gram dry weight)= 2,500 Bq/kg of dry seaweed

Santa Cruz (Highest in Central California)

2.0 Bq/gdwt = 2,000 Bq/kg of dry seaweed

Simon Fraser University in Canada also tested North American seaweed after Fukushima:

"In samples of dehydrated seaweed taken on March 15 near the North Vancouver SeaBus terminal, the count was zero; on March 22 it was 310 Bq per kilogram; and by March 28 it was 380 Bq/kg.” - Vancouver Sun
Seaweed in Seattle also tested positive for iodine-131; levels were not reported -KIRO. No results after March 28 were reported

In addition, radioactive debris is starting to wash up on the Pacific Coast. And because the Japanese are burning radioactive materials instead of disposing of them, radioactive rain-outs will continue for some time … even on the Pacific Coast.

Of course, the government is doing everything it can to help citizens cover up what’s occurring. We pointed out in January: Source & rest of article here: www.zerohedge.com...

Now as this is a 29 minute video and most people won't spend 1/2 hour on a serious video but will spend hours watching The Simpson's, Reality Shows, Video Games, Ipods, sports shows, etc - I wonder how many people will watch this video you so kindly brought over from my other rant, all the way through????

I wonder how many people will read Harry Potter, Twilight, Love and Sex but not the entire article I provided a link to????

Hiding our heads in the sand = death. Death for us, our children and our children's children.

Fukushima will severely compromise and mutate our DNA on a chromosone level, for those of us that survive.

It's already affecting our produce from California and our NW Coastal areas: eatlikenoone.hubpages.com... - Don't go to this link if you eat strawberries, peaches (yes more peaches are grown in California than Georgia, I was surprised about this fact), melons, cherries and grapes (think wine).

FYI: I read several army nuclear survival manuals and they all stated, NEVER BURN radioactive material (like wood) because the radioactive particles contained within that item will then be released into the air.

Japan is burning their nuclear waste from Fukushima if my understanding is correct.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

When your first grandchild is born with a cleft palate, cataracts and deaf, possibly even brain damaged, you will understand fully how this incident will impact each and everyone of us.

Nuclear energy, nuclear weapons, nuclear anything is like handling a two year old a turned on blow torch in a room soaked full of gasoline.

My guess is more stars and flags will go to forums that deal with more trivial stuff.

Fukushima, at present, combined with our various Oil Spills and Chernobyl, are not just single incidences but must be looked at as accumulating, building one on top of the other.

And folks, again, you better put down those ipods, video games, entertaining TV shows that add nothing to your grey matter, stop yacking on your cells, and start demanding our world governments be held accountable and demand abundant, clean and cheap energy.

Your life and that of your children depend upon everyone removing their head from the sand and taking the red pill.

Then begin brainstorming on how we are going to stop this, clean it up and prevent it happening again.

If it were do you really think OUR american men would be there?

In Haig's presence, Kissinger referred pointedly to military men as 'dumb, stupid animals to be used' as pawns for foreign policy." -- Bob Woodward & Carl Bernstein, The Final Days, p. 208

Ask yourself, is Bush Jr. or any of his daughters going to Japan for awhile?

Bush Jr. bought a 900,000+ acre ranch in Paraguay (Southern Hemisphere) to retire to.

Keep your head buried in the sand there....................yep every things A-Okay.

Our country is run for and by large corporations and banks...................profit before people.

People do not matter, except the elite's own family members, the rest of us are expendable.

ZDFzoom asks how it could come to this catastrophe, and how the Japanese nuclear bosses and government dealt with the crisis. Our research shows even before the catastrophe a network of energy criminals existed who kept serious mistakes and flaws secret to save costs. For decades many Japanese workers and top government officials are forced into silence for bringing up safety concerns. Insiders such as Kei Sugaoka, former safety engineer, speaks about the criminal practices of the company TEPCO.

I included these last two videos because they are were produced by Japanese and I figured getting a Eastern viewpoint might bring more information to the table to understand the politics of this ongoing situation.

In any country, it's always profit before people.

I found all three videos insightful.

Radioactive fallout from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster continues to show up at dangerously high levels in the city of Tokyo, which is located roughly 200 miles from the actual disaster site. According to an analysis of five random soil samples recently taken by nuclear expert Arnie Gundersen, the soil around Tokyo is so contaminated with Fukushima radiation that it would be considered nuclear waste here in the U.S. During a recent trip to Tokyo, Gundersen collected soil samples from a sidewalk, a children's playground, a rooftop, a patch of moss by the side of a road, and the lawn of a judicial building. After sending those samples in for testing, it was revealed that each one had high levels of radioactive cesium-134 (CS134) and cesium-137 (CS137), while three of the samples contained high levels of cobalt-60 (CO60). One of the samples also tested positive for uranium-235 (U235).

This video does not seem to be presented by an authoritative news source (and your point is?
) but it does seem to be a reasonable run down of the current situation of the fuel rods stored at reactor #4 and might give people a better grasp of the situation.

It is interesting that the former Japanese ambassador to Switzerland has said that the main obstacle to the expeditious handling of the most important and non-nuclear issues at reactor #4 are not technical but are issues (my words, not his), of politesse, involving massive rescue efforts underway to save the rapidly deteriorating face of top politicians in Japan.

First face and then livability of the northern hemisphere. How's that for priorities?

Incidentally, on the subject of "face", there is a very interesting scene in the film Rising Sun starring Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes, where Connery, the expert on Japan, is in the delicate position of having to help a Japanese functionary to do something that the functionary wants to do but which he is attempting to not do for reasons of "face".

Connery is required to put the functionary into a position where other Japanese people around the functionary will see that the functionary is obviously dealing with a completely unreasonable foreign lout and yet maintains dignity and face by humouring the lout and allowing him to do what he wants (and the functionary secretly wants also) to do.

If the knowledge behind the writing of this scene is accurate it looks as if the top echelons of the political scene in Japan must be put under huge and very obvious pressure by a loutish foreign government, not the United Nations, but a well known crew of clods, acknowleded by all, far and wide, as unreasonable, demanding, mannerless thugs, that a polite person would accede to as a kind father might accede to the wishes of a tantrum throwing two year old.

At that point, a (secretly) grateful Japanese political hierarchy could open the doors to an international task force led by top civil engineering geniuses, to shore up reactor #4 and to install a strong crane to begin moving out the fuel rods.

Summon Sean Connery or equivalent.

Mr. President, it's time to go ghetto on the Japanese. I have a suspicion that they would appreciate it, ASAP.
