Does anyone know of a safe way to download YouTube videos to your hard drive? I could have sworn that was possible say 6 months ago but I tried to download a video today and found it near impossible to do so.

Some sites offered to do it by copying and pasting to their site then downloading but looks like those sites contain malware (beware!).

Anyway, it appears YouTube wants to control content but it brings up an interesting point. If we, ATS users want to download and save important videos before they are deleted, there doesn't seem to be a good way to do so now since this ability has been taken away???

Anyone has any information on this issue?

Hi OP

I use this app to DL from YouTube:

www.youtubedownloadersite.com...

It's good for downloads, but sometimes needs to be restarted.

Hope this helps.

I use Freemake. It's a video downloader program which you can download for free, no virus. I guarantee. I've used it many times. You can download it here,
www.freemake.com...
It's very easy to use, and another great thing about it is that you can also download video's from other websites, for instance Liveleak or Dailymotion.

sry but all this is kinda BS

if you use Firefox just install addons.mozilla.org... DownloadHelper

you can choose between every quality that is available at the yt vid (meaning original 1080p version of the file etc) without any converting...it grabs the original file, fast and easy

also on many other platforms...its a must have (and i am bit wondering why its not posted already...)

I always use Keepvid.com.
Been using it for 4 years now no problem at all. You can download 360p, 480p, 720p or mp3 whatever you need.

You could use Realplayer.

Even the free version gives you the option to activate a feature where you can hover over a Youtube video and download.

And it also works with other sites that streams flash videos.

mp4 downloader

MP4 Downloader is a simple, cross-platform, open-source browser add-on that downloads videos from YouTube, Dailymotion, Facebook Video, and Vimeo as MP4 files. This add-on can currently run in Mozilla Firefox (or as a bookmarklet), with Chrome, Safari, Opera, and Mobile Firefox (Fennec) support in the works.
