So playing a game makes people stupid???? GO GO MASS GENERALISATIONS!!!!

And your response shows EXACTLY the point I was making, that most Religious people resort to name calling, and making mass generalisations, instead of thinking critically and looking at things in a different perspective when proven wrong.

Thanks heaps for proving my point though.

Dear TerribleTeam2,

Please use whole thoughts in your writing. Please tell me what name you were called by me. I received a more coherent response from the OP. What different perspective should I have? I already said that I don't care what adults do in bed, did you not understand that? Do you not understand that I speak to a congregation that is at least 1/3 gay? Can you read the past posts or are you skimming for meaning and assuming things? You say thanks for proving your point, nobody knows what your point is, please explain yourself.

I don't deny that the simple one word or one line associations are clear indicators. But that doesn't make them right or correct.

So just because a study shows the the majority of programmed young people have been taught to associated Anti-homosexuality with Christianity doesn't make it so. True Christianity can't be defined by the education system or the mainstream media outlets or by hollywood for that matter.

So then we go back to the topic at hand and the underlying question
What does the church do about this to reverse the mindset and association of people?

or do they do nothing and let it flop...

So far, it seems the average response is...meh, let it fall, they (or we) will never change..the message is the message, and if the religion dies, so be it.

I suspect a bit more self preservation should have kicked in by now.

Dear SaturnFX,

1) What is my agenda? I do have one, yes...but I would bet a solid dollar you get it wrong. Go on...my agenda then...what is it?

As I said you wish to play a game rather be truthful. You guess I cannot guess your agenda, why should I say? Why don't you just be honest and state it and let us respond to it from our perspective? I say exactly what I think, I hide nothing and am not afraid of being attacked for what I believe. I reject being attacked for what I don't believe and having a label put on me because I believe in God. The fact that I believe in God does not mean I believe everyone who calls themselves a christian believes in what Christ told them to they should work towards. I am sad that you don't care about gays in countries you don't live in, we all matter.

You claim you seek reason, I prefer making things better over being right about everything, I know my reasoning is not perfect and neither is yours, none know all the truth but God. You were probably raised to believe that if you confess Jesus as you savior that you are saved. It is not that simple. It says may will come to him saying they know his name and he will say that he never knew them because they did not love and care for their neighbor. Why is it surprising that many who call themselves christians will not be accepted? It is not about being perfect it is about being loving, it is not about being sinless, it is about being giving.

I will give a summary of my last sermon. I was talking about the Lord's Supper, I mentioned how Mathew, Mark and Luke all wrote about it; but, John talked about what happened afterwords. After saying they would all be forgiven, Jesus chose to wash the feet of the apostles. He was demonstrating forgiveness leading to service of others. Just because the majority of any belief system believe something is right does not make it true. The bible speaks for itself. Jesus fulfilled the law, which we could not, so that we could live better and more loving.

The man that convinced me to go into the ministry was a gay pastor, I didn't know it, I thought he was married to a woman, he wasn't he has been in a committed relationship with a man for 13 years. I am as straight as they come, been with one woman in my whole life and no men. Oh, this gay pastor, he was turned on by all the churches he had helped for over 20 years. I don't do well with atheists who attempt to gay bait Christians and don't care about gays. I care about everyone and live it, I respect people that do the same regardless of their spiritual beliefs. If you are willing to punish gays in order to attack religious people then I don't respect you, how can I. We should be able to love everyone.

I am not particularly religious but I am certainly tired of hearing from and about "Gay" anything..how about getting out of our faces, out of our lives and going back to keeping your personal lives, lifestyles and sexual preferences your own private business....it is becoming another one of those "Enough Is Enough" subjects.

LOL, well see the problem here is people like you wont let gays enjoy their lives. They want marriage equality and you say no therefore butting into their personal lives. If you want these issues out of your face stop trying to control what they can and cannot do.

Dear SaturnFX,

1) What is my agenda? I do have one, yes...but I would bet a solid dollar you get it wrong. Go on...my agenda then...what is it?

As I said you wish to play a game rather be truthful. You guess I cannot guess your agenda, why should I say?

Mostly because you kept going on about my agenda.
You say my agenda
I ask you then what my agenda is
and you say I am playing a game, why should you say.
Showing you actually have no clue what my agenda is.

I have no issue in discussing it...hell, I wrote it on my avatar.
I am a transhumanist. I see us as a species as coming towards a singularity event where we will self evolve.
structured religion is a hobbling towards this scientific evolution. They saturate the peoples mind that death is not only inevitable, but preferrable
Discuss cryonics, they will dismiss it. Why? they make plenty of money with funerals, sticking people in the ground verses progressing the science of hybernation.
Religion is one (of several) stumbling stones towards our evolution as a species.
That is my agenda..to play whatever tiny role I can in furthering our destiny as a race...the alternative is a endless dark age.

I personally am against religion, as it traps the mind and focuses people away from life and into death..perhaps with a bit of a threat towards death verses thinking candy and gumdrops wait for us on the other side, we might get serious about genetic therapy, cryogenic freezing, etc...but nope, religion wants you sick, then dead..and laugh at any discussion otherwise..ban cloning, stem cell research, call implants the mark of the bloody beast, etc etc etc.

Religion is the anchor of humanity, keeping us unmoving towards our rightful place in this universe. You have your belief in something greater for us, so do I. but my path is kicked in the shins by your groups path...so ya, there is an issue here..and one must go..either the interference with religion on subjects of science and progression, and the dismissal that somehow religions are the shepherds of how we must die and be buried...or we toss away our future and kneel in front of imagined deities without any greater goal for our species than to be a servant race for a sky lord.

But religon is not the only target on my site. Corporations are equal in their imposed stagnation (some), certain political elements, etc.

If you are willing to punish gays in order to attack religious people then I don't respect you, how can I. We should be able to love everyone.

My best friend is gay. She has been by buddy for many years. I don't think I am punishing her by suggesting she should have equality. She is also in line with my thinking on most of my viewpoints (and thinks I am an idiot on a couple also..she will tell me when I am off base).
I don't attack religious people, as said before. I attack religion..I attack religious ideas. but I don't attack the person behind them (unless they attack me first, then its game on, but on a person to person basis). Some very intelligent people are also religious, and some true dumbarses are atheist. I judge people based on individual merits...but I will attack a organization, an idea, a stance, etc..that is fair game in discourse. To think someone is less for doing that means you simply don't want your idea attacked...which means you shouldn't speak it to begin with.

You seem to be saying the same circular things. It is getting a bit boring. Sorry, your not painting me into something I am not. It may be easier for you to dismiss my words by doing that, but since when is that productive anyhow.

I don't understand this whole issue and why it has become such a massive issue!!

For a start I am straight but I have no problem with anyone that is homo-sexual... I don't see why it should be anyone else's business but their own.

I would not want strangers poking their nose into my relationship or marriage issues.

Let them get married if they want, if they have found someone that makes them happy and have found love then that is fantastic because there are many many people out there that never find someone to make them truly happy!

Secondly -

I was raised catholic and religious, I went to a religious primary (elementary) school and had many friends that went to a religious high school.

There was never any teaching about being "anti-gay" or homophobic!

Just because I was raised religious, it does not shape my views on this topic!

As I said, I don't understand why this has become such a big issue for all the straight people our there!! If they are happy and find love then who are you!? To get in the way of that!!

Dear SaturnFX,

I did not know you were a transhumanist. I have followed and studied the movement. I will ignore your last response regarding your thread. I am absolutely not a transhumanist and have very significant issues with the idea. I would much prefer to debate transhumanism than continue on this thread. Perhaps we can exchange some u2u's and arrange to have a proper discussion regarding that theory, separate and apart from this thread. I will give you this, I consider transhumanism to be the most evil thing in history, I like free will; but, that is not in keeping with your original thread so I will not pursue it on this thread. Peace.

Ironically I agree with your views on religion as well... Even though I was raised in a religious system.

I have moved more to science and although I still have a belief system (instilled at a young age) I am leaning closer to atheism nowadays.

Religion was created as a moral backbone for humanity...

Just look at the 10 commandments...

Maybe we needed it though, maybe it is all part of the learning process otherwise they would be mayhem and chaos

I'm sick and tired of all this gay bashing vs. christian bashing BS. Seriously why are people so hung up on this?? I mean personally the sexual acts that gay men have to go through seem kinda unnatural and GROSS to me.

I know, I know "But you see examples of homosexuality in animals blah blah blah" I still think anal intercourse is freakin gross.

But seriously WHO CARES ABOUT THIS WHEN WE SHOULD CARE ABOUT WAAAY MORE IMPORTANT THINGS i.e. FED, Rigged Elections, tax money going everywhere and to every country except our own, our crumbling infrastructure, how Las Vegas is still building and constructing like hell while draining lake mead and will eventually be a ghost town in 50 years etc...

Last thing I have on my mind are homosexuals. If you wanna do that stuff fine but don't go flaunting it in front of me. I've been to Castro Street in San Francisco and I think I got a PRETTY GOOD idea of what homosexuality is about and when you see a gay porn shop showing tons of videos on tons of TV's all at once with 40-50 year old men having sex with "barely legal" 18 year old teenage boys in A&F T-shirts I can't help but be disgusted...

Hahahaha, surely you can't be serious??? You tell me to read posts, then claim I am not making a point, when the point is plain as day, right in front of you. Either English isn't your 1st language, or you are having problems following your own advice, and are struggling to read.

End of argument. It is pointless arguing against stupidity, because it drags you down to its level, and then wins through experience.

Edit - Saturn - Lol, been playing games since the good old Atari 2600 and C64. Gotta love the good old days where you basically had to be a programmer just to get the games up and running!

Yep
Not truth, not morality, not hope, none of that.

Its simply associated with being anti-homosexual, or the club for homophobes.

When asked by The Barna Group what words or phrases best describe Christianity, the top response among Americans ages 16-29 was “antihomosexual.” For a staggering 91 percent of non-Christians, this was the first word that came to their mind when asked about the Christian faith. The same was true for 80 percent of young churchgoers. (The next most common negative images? : “judgmental,” “hypocritical,” and “too involved in politics.”)

So Congratulations to the religious leaders and outspoken religious folks out there...your message of not liking "the gay" is heard loud and clear.
And also congratulations on completely isolating any potential future for your religion..lose the youth, you lose it all..

Later research, documented in Kinnaman’s You Lost Me, reveals that one of the top reasons 59 percent of young adults with a Christian background have left the church is because they perceive the church to be too exclusive, particularly regarding their LGBT friends. Eight million twenty-somethings have left the church, and this is one reason why.

I am not saying Christians should rewrite their bible, but rather, its time to put perspective on it.
Being gay is one sin, which is alright should you accept christs sacrifice
So is lying. People lie all the time.
And lets say you somehow are without sin, you are STILL going to hell unless you do the catch all, which is ultimately just accepting christ..right?

So, you lot got a choice...kick out the old fogies whom are banging their fists on tables saying we gotta hate "the gay' because they are all gay n stuff, and install some reasonable minded young ones whom see being gay about as damning as telling someone those jeans don't make them look fat (cough)....focus on the sin, and your just a bunch of judgemental jerks...focus on the love of christ and his sacrifice for all the people and the idiotic things we do, and you may win some back over time (once you shut up your anti-gay idiots).

-not gay, don't care either way what others do, but bigotry is bigotry..and its a (well deserved) dying trait that deserves no respect or attention-

That's not scientific by any means. It's cultish. The moment you treat 'species' to mean some lump of genetic material to be shaped in a uniform image, you're no longer in the realm of science.

If religion exists then it's a particle of the genome in question and isn't impeding anything.

I don't believe that the primary goal of Christianity is to be homophobic, or "antihomosexual" as the OP says. However, many religious folk still believe that gay marriage should be illegal which is quite sickening. Firstly, because two gay people getting married has nothing to do with anyone else. It doesn't affect anyone else, therefore no-one should have the right to outlaw it or attempt to get it outlawed. Secondly, it blatantly impedes on a gay individual's freedoms and rights as human beings. As Ron Paul also claims, politics should not get involved in things concerning personal beliefs, basically those which don't affect others, and there should definitely be no laws condemning simple freedoms such as gay marriage.

Dear SFX...

it is not Christianity which punishes homosexuality, it is they the homosexual individual themself.

one can't get the truth or the law of nature off their hand, nor can one get it out of the mind.

that's just the way the world is.. even for that tribe in Africa whose never heard of God.
