Allright, not used to this posting stuff, im a proud lurker.
But here goes.
One of the best things i know in life is fleamarkets, i love old stuff and on a fleamarket there is mostly old stuff.
Last friday i was at one and found lots of goodies to bring home with me, this head was one of them.

the owner of the fleamarket said that he had bought a hole house from an old dead couples relatives.
The whole house was filled with old stuff from all over the world, it was things like an actual building stone from the pyramids (not a whole stone obiously) ranging to old things from sweden where i live.
Many of the things where marked with afganistan, but most of the stuff was unmarked.

well this is all the info i have, i know it aint much to go on, and i have lived on the internet trying to find out where this head comes from since i got home with it, but with no luck.
so i figured il throw it up here, i know there is a lot of knowlege here on ats, so if u cant figure it out im throwing it in the garbage can so i can let go of the obsession to find out what it is.

im at work now but il try and check this post now and again during the day.

thanks in advance / jimmy

You would throw it in the garbage coz you dont know what it is??????????

Ill pay you what you paid plus shipping to send to me.

If I had to hazard a guess I would say it looks Minoan but as I said its only a guess and an uneducated one at that.

P.s seeriously dont throw it away, I am more than willing to take it off ur hands

It's really too tough to tell from just a photo online, but the "statue" looks like it was made from a mould, and not carved or chiseled. Can you tell if it's stone or plaster? It really looks like someone's art school project and not something ancient.

A curator at a local museum could tell you a lot more about it.

To me, this doesn't look minoan at all. Look at the facial shape/features. Doesn't look greek to me. Possibly egyptian. But I think its most likely mayan. Looks like pakal the great to me.

hi there.
well, it is possible that it is only crap, but that would break my heart.
as for stone vs plaster, it dont look like plaster to me but im no expert

and as for local museum, the nearest museum is in stockholm, a good three hour drive, and with todays gas prices here in sweden, its out of the question, and i read on the internet that they dont identify stuff for the general public as a step to counter the ancient art thefts.
thanks for taking time to look
peace

Oi look at my link, the first one wouldn't work and I've changed it now. I think I may have hit the nail on the head.

This definitely doesn't look like an ancient Egyptian artifact to me. The head shape is reminiscent of figures in Minoan wall paintings or possibly belonging to some other culture around the Mediterranean sea. I could be wrong, but take it to your nearest museum and have them take a look at it.

Someone else said Mayan? IDK about specifically that culture, but I think south of the border. If the green is mold(?) that would imply a wet environment as opposed to anywhere in the Mediterranean or Egypt.

To me it looks like a badly eroded molded bust of Queen Victoria.
They were mass produced as ornate garden decorations , during and just after her reign .

hi there.
it would be awesome if it was minoan or something like that.
as for taking it to a museum. the nearest one with knowlege about stuff like this is pretty far away, and on the museums website it says they dont identify things at the general public as a step in fighting ancient art theft.

thank you so much for having a look at it
