Hey, all.....I wrote a post in an ATS "MAINLINE" forum....(or, as is better known.....the "moneymaker side" and....well, here it is:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

(Just click it to read it)...

IN that ^ ^ ^ post above, I proffered a question, to wit:

(paraphrased).......in regards to my final reference to the 1994 film (Star Trek: Generations).....I "proclaimed" it as one of my "favorites" from the Star Trek franchise of motion picture releases (so far)....

I wrote:

Possibly one of the "best" of the Franchise....anyone wish to "vote"??....

I am not so sure, right now......WHICH I find the "favorite"....upon reflection, I tend to steer to 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan' purely for sentimental reasons.....(since it "lifted" the franchise out of the depths, and possible demise, imposed upon the property because of the failure of the "first" movie).....

....(WHICH, PS, was a "big-screen" re-make of a second season TOS {The Orignal Series} television episode titled
( url=Full Episode of 'Star Trek: TOS': "The Changeling"....wish I could link to a full episode of 'TOS'....maybe? (Copyrights are a slippery slope.....EVEN after "The Original Series" "residuals" have expired, for the original; cast members??? WoW!!!

Perhaps [url=http://www.startrek.com/watch_episode/wwkPt7ePnr8Dv_QTkqvOdVThfzUejUeW]THIS link will work?

(Hope so...)......

but, knowing that the "original" cast HAD to "hand it over" eventually, I find myself torn up, in choosing....anyone else have an opinion??

(And, did I just reveal my "age"?? LOL!!!)

Please, discuss.....there are NO "wrong answers" in this thread....EVER!!!!

How about a 'Star Trek' movie fan thread?

Make it so #2.

Do you think that there is a conspiracy, worthy of the finest minds ATS can muster at short notice, within the Star Trek franchise?

If so, set phasers to FUN and beam yourself up.
If not, then I fear an "I luv Star Trek" thread could run out of warp speed very quickly.

Live long etc...

By The Way...the voice of "NOMAD" was done by James Doohan, same actor who played "Montgomery Scott". ALSO<, 'btw'....the "voice" of the computer was ALWAYS Majel Barret.......later, after Gene Roddenberry's divorce with is first wife, to marry Roddenberry.....but, only after a LONG session of extra-marital daliances..... ( LOL )......

...OH, and.....Majel Roddenberry (nee 'Barret') was also in many First Season "TOS" seasons as character "Nurse Chapel".......

Extra-marital daliances. eh?
He really was going where no man had gone before!

BTW are you replying to yourself Proudbird? Just askin'?

While not a die-hard trekkie I do enjoy de-cloaking myself into Roddenberry's creation now and again.
What did you think of the 2009 J. J. Abrams installment?
I really enjoyed it and hope it breathes more life into the franchise.

The "latest" movie, do you mean??

The one in 2009, done by director J. J. Abrams??

This One

Oh, and there IS another in production, to 'supplement THAT film. Will be released, I assume, in 2013 or 2014.

Well....I found MANY flaws in it, as well....when I first saw it. "EVEN THOUGH" the 'premise' of the script was to take the "original" history out of the iconic "as we know it" because of a "time distortion".....perhaps some did not get that.

The intrusion of the "Romulan" viliain, as the main protagonist "villain" ....it "entirely" changed the original "Star Trek" canon.......

AND, actor Majel Barrett was (as Christine Chapel) STILL included in the cast, even in the second season...and, limitedly, into Season Three..... (lol!!)...Helps to "sleep" with the executive producer......and "show' creator!!!

Well, Hollywood.......still run, always has been run, by "PEOPLE"....HUMANS....with normal emotions, desires, needs.....etc, etc.....

"Imperfection"!!! ( LOL )......

Yes that bit of poo. I understand that the director wanted to create an alternate universe so he could cash in on the trek name but enough is enough. Having watched Star Trek from the start when I hear a Trek movie coming out I expect something based on what Roddenberry wrote not something some hollywood hack came up with after taking to many hits of acid.

FURTHER info, based on THIS episode....("The Changeling")....this the iconic 'Star Trek', original series, so-called "Blooper Reel"....

James Doohan is hilarious in the out-take.....at time:

(ALTHOUGH.....this reel of out-takes....made for one of the "Wrap Parties".....covers many episodes.....only true fans know which ones....)...

At time 1:25......that is "TGBoTG" himself, Gene Roddenberry, in a 'falsetto", with the cue to Nichelle Nichols ("Star Bae Six!"), and she breaks up....OH! By the WAY.....He slept with her, too.....well, it HAD to be said!!..."Tis the truth....just read any of the books about that era, and that show.....

Back to the out-takes, and 'The Changeling''....Jimmy Doohan's big moment is at 3:50....

So, this makes these clips part of the SECOND SEASON wrap party, based on the scenes I see......Oh well.....maybe after Season One they weren't sure they'd even get renewed!!

I'm not a "Trekker" but I do enjoy some Star Trek from time to time. I mostly like the episodes with self-aware computers and nebulous clouds claiming to be god; those Gnostic themes which seem to permeate the show, and the ideas of what a 'perfect society' would be like. Despite being an atheist, Roddenberry sure did spend a lot of time with these and other themes like 'ancient alien' gods who affect the timeline of a planet. Like Spock who is the logical one, but also the only one I remember who practiced any sort of religion and was the most mystical of the group. There was that episode where he has to go back to Vulcan for some mating ritual or whatever.. or maybe I'm thinking of Dr. Zoidberg from Futurama who is also an oxymoron, being a Jewish shell-fish, and a poor doctor!

For "conspiracy" stuff, you might want to read up on Roddenberry's interaction with Andrija Puharich who is the guy who actually invented the "hollow-tooth transmitter" that people in insane asylums would claim to have had installed during their last dental check up, and are now receiving instructions from their CIA handlers. Puharich hypnotized Uri Gellar and others into thinking they were channeling the nine creation gods of Egypt, the ennead. I recommend reading stuff at The Secret Sun for more, like in
this post,

In between the Star Trek TV series and the first Star Trek motion picture, Gene Roddenberry would find himself confronted with a real-world galactic Brotherhood. The ensuing drama would serve to be one of the strangest episodes recorded in the life of major Hollywood figure.

In early 1975, a broke and depressed Roddenberry was approached by a British former race car driver named Sir John Whitmore, who was associated with a strange organization called ‘Lab-9.’ Though unknown to the public, Lab-9 were ostensibly a sort of an independent version of the X-Files, dedicated to the research of paranormal phenomena. However, Lab-9 had another, more complex agenda- they later claimed to be in contact with a group of extraterrestrials called the ‘Council of Nine’ or simply ‘The Nine’, who had been communicating through ‘channelers’ or psychic mediums.

The Nine claimed to be the creators of mankind, and had informed the channelers that they would be returning to Earth soon. Lab-9 had wanted to hire Roddenberry to write a screenplay based on the Council of Nine’s imminent return. To help Roddenberry in his research, Lab-9 flew him out to their headquarters, located on a large estate in Ossining, NY. There, Roddenberry met and interviewed several psychics, and prepared the groundwork for his script.

The blog has another article about the possible origins of the ideas behind "Project Blue Beam,"

"In May 1975, Gene Roddenberry accepted an offer from Paramount to develop Star Trek into a feature film, and moved back into his old office on the Paramount lot. His proposed story told of a flying saucer, hovering above Earth, that was programmed to send down people who looked like prophets, including Jesus Christ.

Edit: forgot to mention, if you want to see an original series Star Trek show with a more realistic view of the Federation, I recommend finding a torrent of "Blakes 7" which was made for the BBC.
