At least 33 were killed and dozens more wounded when 2 bombs went off in Baghdad today. One, authorities claim, was more than likely a car bomb, and the other was detonated following the first. It has not been determined how many of the victims of the bombings were Iraqi or American. Hospitals in the area are dealing with many casualties.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Insurgents detonated two bombs near a convoy of U.S. military vehicles in southern Baghdad on Thursday, killing at least 33 people and wounding scores more, Iraqi police said.

They said the first blast was probably caused by a car bomb. A second bomb detonated shortly afterwards, as U.S. troops tried to help those hit in the first explosion.

A policeman at the scene said he had counted at least 33 bodies and said around 50 people were wounded in the explosions. Local hospital officials said they were inundated with casualties.

U.S. troops were in the process of helping victims from the first bomb when the second bomb was detonated. US officials have yet to give any information about the bombings.

This attack follows an attack earlier west of Baghdad where two Iraqi police officers and a U.S. soldier were killed. Women and children were wounded in that attack as well as 60 others. Bombings are becoming daily in Iraq, as insurgents are targetting Iraqi security forces and US soldiers.

UPDATE
Some reports coming in are claiming at least 50 dead, and more than 150 injured, will update as this story develops.
