Despite the obvious signs the US is breaking apart how come people still think "This is nothing"?

Probably true, sadly. But those of us who DO care, well, where exactly are we supposed to go?

Damn you where around during the depression? much harder economic times like when? please dont say the 70's because most of us will laugh at you. Unemployment is about 30 percent we are trillions in debt the cost of everything is rising yet our government is still borrowing and our currency rating dropped twice. You don't care because you have a job but guess what happens with no new bail out money? businesses are going to drop like fly's and it going to have a domino effect.

I'm not saying its the end of the world but its the end of the world we knew as Americans.

Because the people and citizens of the US are in denial.. in their small communities they cannot see it happening on a larger scale....

The rest of the world could not give a damn because the US? has been trying to seem "on top" or superior for the last 100 yrs or so when we all knew they weren't....

We are all sitting back and watching it happen, it's not funny and I get no enjoyment out of it.. I feel sad for the citizens on the US...

The US government is to blame and they need to be held accountable by it's citizens...

For the rest of us looking in from the outside it's been expected trust me... Just look at the government and how much they spend on defence but yet at the same time their citizens suffer with lack of healthcare....

You guys give crap to Canada and think they are below you but at leats they know how to look after it's people, the same goes for us in Australia!!!

Have you seen the doco Sicko by michael moore!! Take a good look at your healthcare system!! - - - oh but u got great military.......... who cares!! WTF

You guys have this whole national pride and this entire belief system instilled inside you that makes you think that what is happening in the US is right and that your government is trying to help you.... they are not!!!

They are screwing you over!!

You need an outside perspective on things and need to realise that we don't like being critical of you but at the same time constructive feedback needs to be taken into account!!

Talk about losing sight of priorities!! WTF

The US political system and military has been a ticking time bomb from the end of WWII, the leaders are flawed and have suffered from paranoia and at the same time a superiority complex...

The government of the US is a contagious sociopathic entity... I feel bad for the citizens of the country as they have had no choice but go along for the ride and been raised to think they are the best in the world when really the resy of the world look on them with pitty and sadness...

I'm sorry but it's true.

Sometimes it is like talking to a brick wall because your government and education system has raised you that way... thinking you are superior to the rest of the world!! When really the resy of the world takes pity on the US and it's citizens!! Not the US government though... they can goto hell!

Just remember this....

We do not forget, although some may forgive!

You are stronger than the government because you are the people of the country and it is YOUR country.

Do not let them walk over you or treat you like children

Really? Did you live in a Hooverville? Were you here for the crash of 29? That was the only time that was worse. I have news for you though. This time will be much worse than that time was.

Also, I am watching my own country slowly shift towards becoming a Socialist nation. Political Madness and Climate-Change Debates aside, NOBODY knows that is going on, and even those who do really have no power to stop it.

"Tune in. Turn off. Drop out."

Are you crazy? australia is slowly becoming socialist???????????

what on earth would make you say that? Australia was great when it was semi-socialist. Up until the 80's we owned all public utlities and protected our assets. Now we have become Amaricanized. we hardly own a road anymore. to say we are becoming socialist is absurd.

We need to cut ties with America and go back to what worked. As good as Australia is compared to the rest of the world we are a ticking bomb if we do not jump ship from American. Carbon Tax is Crony Capitalism. And dont think its not under orders from America's Banks. The greens just push it for them. Socialist
I wish.

But this is different the economic problems is greater than what happens in the 1970s and the 80s.

Sorry but you are wrong.

In the late 1970's interest rates were at 21%, inflation was 13% the misery index (the sum of the unemployment rate and the inflation rate) hit an all-time high of 21.98%.

When was the last time you remember that you couldn't legally purchase gas because the day of the week didn't match your license plate?

Big deal. People(my parents among others) just filled up one car one day and the other car the next day. WE didn't live in our cars, as is happening in many parts of the country today, and jobs were easy to get. I made more money as a teenager in the 1970s then I did my first 3 years in the navy in the 1980s. Gas was not that hard to get anyway. I started cutting lawns at 9 years old(1972), and never had any trouble keeping my mower and cans full every single day.

That may be part of it, but I think the biggest reason is people are AFRAID. They're scared #less. Most everyone is unprepared and up to their eyeballs in debt. They still can't fathom the possibility that the United States might end up in a situation worse than the great depression. So they ignore it and carry on with their meaningless lives, right when a catastrophic fiscal, financial and economic collapse is right in front of them

People are trying to survive. My mother is too busy to sit down and watch the news, or keep up with world events and politics, shes always working, in order to keep a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs, food in our bellies, and gas in the car...

TPTB want us to be distracted, and its working...people are just trying to keep their heads above water these days, while a select few lounge in luxury, raping, and destroying this world, and humanity...

I know how frustrating it must be talking to loved ones to get them motivated to have back up plans if something drastic should happen. I live on the gulf coast and every year we have hurricanes, many times they skate on by but we've had doozies in the last ten years. Still today people don't make preparations for hurricane season, they spend thousands of dollars annually on sporting events, concerts, designer clothing, jewelry, vacations, and other non-essentials but not one penny on a home generator, emergency food supply, first aid kits, solar lighting, absolutely no preparations are made for "just in case" and yet they live on the gulf coast. Do you know why they don't make preparations? They feel secure in thinking FEMA will come to their rescue, the Red Cross will come to their rescue, other Americans will come to their rescue, so why spend their money when they can lean on somebody else.

The economic crash will be no different, these people will be expecting somebody to come and rescue them. Yes this country has seen some financial hardships but what's already here will make the past events pale in comparison, why? The collapse is not centered just in a certain region of the US but globally. There are at least four generations of Americans who don't know what it's like to not have governmental departments to call on for their emergency needs and that my friends will be a shock to more than a few people.

My attitude is let these "nonbelievers" give you their tolerate smiles and blank stares and you make preparations for yourself. This story was written about in many ancient books most of us know it as Noah's Ark. Doesn't matter if you accept this story as a myth or historical the point is it highlighted human behavior too well. He warned people and I'm sure those people had doomsayers prior to him and just "bahumbugged" him. Until the rain wouldn't stop and they wanted in on Noah's boat. A boat he had to labor into existence, a boat that had enough life sustaining supplies for those that believed him and worked hard to build it.

Yes I agree with the poster who said "we've heard it all before", however, all one has to do is know the symptoms of collapse by studying all the "empires" that no longer exist now and they'll see the US is going through them. The only thing left is the final breath.

An economist said everything will appear to still be functioning at the end, people will be going to work, and doing all those things they normally do for about two weeks before they realize nothing is functioning. Don't know if that's a clear assessment but I can tell you people will be caught with their pants down so to speak.

Well, listening to my Father-inlaw I would say it is because the country has had many ups and downs and always eventually recovers. Even the Great depression did not last forever and the country with a good war going can recover.

This made me laugh so hard, just because it isn't affecting you and the few others that starred your post, does not mean that right now, things are not the worst they have been for a large percentage of the population than they can ever remember.
Massive trillions of dollars public debt, shanty towns springing up, more child poverty and hunger than the nation knows how to deal with, more jobless and homeless than can be effectively dealt with.
The nation is heamorhaeging with government trying to apply paper cut band aid when battle dressings and surgeons are required for a large portion of the population, and still it is getting worse, and yet you are asleep enough, still, to make an assinine post like that.
It has NEVER been this bad for the nation, you personally it isn't?, great, i hope it doesn't run you over like a big rig while you are looking the other way telling your friends how great everything is.

If you can afford an extra meal, why not find a kid who could use one and treat them to a two piece.

So because we are being exploited we stop producing children and in time??, we go the way of the dodo?.
Brilliant plan, i would say something about the darwin awards for humanity, but i guess you are doing us a favour.

It mostly means the USA will have to fold their 600+ global military bases and the foothold and influence on the rest of the world lessened. The global powers will balance. Nothing to fear about the 'old boys club' falling. I'd worry more about cleaning your own governing powers. Get Ron Paul in and hold tribunals. Mind your own business and relations will mend with other countries. Me living in Canada doesn't exempt me ether. As most countries, our political system is tainted as well. I bet the collapse of any empire in this day and age is more of a positive event rather than a negative one.

What a laugh, you don't have a clue what you are talking about so project your load of self serving garbage on somebody else.

Every generation believes that the golden days are past and that they are living in the worst of times because they believe they are somehow special.

Keep on telling yourself the end of the world and fall of western civilisation is at hand or better yet, educate yourself on the history of global economics over the last 100 years. Either way you are going to find out that the state of the economy has been much worse than now and recovered relatively quickly more than once in living memory.
