The National Academy of Science released a framework on July 19th, 2011, that will serve as the foundation for the creation of Next Generation Science Standards. Framework for k-12 Science Education describes key ideas and practices in the natural sciences and engineering that all students should be familiar with by the time they graduate from high school.

The first public draft is available for anyone interested from May 11 until June 1, 2012.

" During the Next Generation Science Standards development process, 26 states will provide leadership to the writers and to other states as they consider adoption of the NGSS, and address common issues involved in adoption and implementation of the standards."

The National Research Council's (NRC) Framework describes a vision of what it means to be proficient in science; it rests on a view of science as both a body of knowledge and an evidence-based, model and theory building enterprise that continually extends, refines, and revises knowledge. It presents three dimensions that will be combined to form each standard:

not yet my friend, and certainly not in any southern states. with 31 republican governors now holding office, science is going to be vetoed in alot of states.
