Tales from “The Grimoire” Writing Contest

This is a contest for all our writers, but perhaps for those who prefer fantasy or those wishing to get into fantasy writing. We’ve had a few collaborative writings that have done well with the topic and hopefully this will encourage more.

All Terms & Conditions Apply

Title must contain [TFTG]

You may enter more than once, but please add them as separate threads in the Short Story Forum.

Word limit for the contest is 6 thousand characters. These are to be *short* stories that simply explore a time and place within a fantasy realm of your choosing. (Do not count spacing as characters, words only.)

Your entry MUST include fantasy themes. ( Magic, beasts of lore, etc.)

For those of you who are familiar, you may use settings such as Faerun or any other classic fantasy setting. (Your own included.)

Any writing form is acceptable, within the character limit.

There will be 3 winners chosen, based on the amount of stars and flags received by members. There will also be honorable mentions which will be determined by panel of mods including myself.

The contest will run until June 15th 2012 at Midnight.

Only the winners will receive the writer status, 5 applauses each and be included in the Showcase of Winners.

So get to writing folks!

(Also please send me a PM with each entry so that I may keep track.)

Edit To Add: As per my post below, you may write a series of stories or continuations of your entries. Each will be it's own story for the purpose of the contest, however if you'd like to flesh out your story for more perspective, then by all means please do so
.

Happy Writing!

I was going to take a month off writing from the ATS writing contest, and so you do this.

Fantasy writing? Under 6000 characters? How can I resist? Pure evil, tttp!

I linked the contest in my sig, and now I am off to write.

I also like the honorable mention aspect of this contest. It's way too constricting in a writing contest to limit it to three winners. Kudos.

I remember getting a Copy of the Blackmoor campaign,as a kid. I didn't even have the original rules.

I live in Wisconsin, and used to play weekly back in the day. Alas, one of the spots I played at,a few years back closed down in Sherwood.

Havnt played since.

Still have some kick but miniatures,though........

My Mother drove me an a few freinds about 100 miles to a Hobby Store in 1978 to buy the red boxed set. The original having long since been lost I replaced it with a mint copy from e-bay a few years ago.

Anyway - when my daughter asks me in amazement how I know so many varied wierd things...I have to answer honestly. By playing D&D. I mean where I grew up not many kids knew what a dias or a brazzier were.

I also attribute much of my professional success in the miltary (Special Forces) to learning complex problem solving perched rather dorkily around a kitchen table. We had a weekly game on almost every deployment when I was active duty. We always resevered about 100 lbs on a pallet for our footlocker of gaming stuff.

Go D&D ! It may save your life. At least it gave us a break from the insanity of war.

I still have most of the original stuff, including the original boxed set. Much of mine is 2nd edition though, and still gets used today. I love it, just for the escape it provides, and the fun the guys have when playing. It's more laughs and jokes now than serious role-playing, but it's a good release from the everyday.

Plus it helps immensely with the creative process.

The Path to Gwethen Castle.

The next entry. It seems like I'm writing a chapter at a time, as I got this theme in my head now. So many variations to use, however, I'm feeling comfortable with this. So I'm going with it.

Here's my attempt.
Bad Heroes

If you fine folks like it, I can continue. Kinda choppy, 1st attempt in this genre.

LOVING the entries so far guys, keep them coming.

Ask an amendment to the above rules, you MAY have multiple entries regarding the same story, a continuation as such.

Part 1, part 2 etc...

They will be judged individually however in the end, but for those who wanted to flesh out their stories or worlds more, by all means go ahead!
