The.."Gay Marriage Yes/No?" - issue must be the biggest joke ever, i can't see this being anything else than "political trolling"

Distracting from the REAL issues America has, economy, middle-east conflict etc...by bringing in an utterly irrelevant but highly emotional topic...

So..a ban on gay marriages has now become the "most pressing" issue America has today?
Wow..just wow...

It makes most christians go koo koo
then the republicans go to Bohemian grove which is construed to be the biggest employer of gay porn stars on the planet

I agree. What a non-issue.

Who the hell gets married these days anyway?

And how many are actually waiting to get married? I bet its a spec of the population. A spec of the gay community.

It's all in knowing which buttons to push. The politicians know that gay marriage is a huge issue in their mostly conservative/christian voterbase.

I wonder what important event occurred the same day Obama voiced his opinion. It probably has something to do with banks or the financial system. I'm gonna go and find out what it was, I'd bet money on it.

Indeed those politicians should be banned for political trolling

And that is hardly the only "Non-issue" being discussed in these dire times, how about the abortion issue? Most of the people saying they are "Pro-Life"(at the cost of Pro-Choice) are the same people that wants these endless wars that are killing more people every year than the abortions do! What a joke.

And there are numerous other similar issues aimed at distracting the masses with nonsense, while they can safely dictate the "real big issues" behind the scenes.

Agreed.

It's quite astonishing how simple the masses can be distracted, especially in view of the "issue".
JPM just #ed up horribly with probably another bailout imminent... everyone talks about gay marriage lol.

Yea it's dumb. Sooner or later they are bound to run out of ridiculous crap to throw in our faces, already it's getting pretty obvious that they are running out of ideas.

It happens every election year. It is their way of getting people fired up and dividing up the gay vote and the religious vote. It's a cheap way to get support from people who might otherwise disagree with them because this one issue is so important to people that they are willing to ignore everything else about a politician except their stance on this issue. For instance, say a politician is for abortion, which automatically loses him the christian vote. If he says he is against gay marriage, suddenly a large number of those same christians are on his side because gay marriage seems to be a more pressing issue.

It's a cheap tactic, but it always works. I remember during the Obama election, the gay community was rabidly for him because he promised to support gay rights or something like that. (He's done almost nothing about this by the way.) Now it's happening all over again. The sad thing is, it may just work again.

I think this is the reason the government does so little to help gay rights. It's a convienent campaigning tool and they want to keep the issue alive as long as they can.

I don't really think it is a non issue -- it certainly isn't a non issue to a segment of the population that is shut out by government decree.

I think it is representative of the way both parties look at their government. Most of the reason I am a democrat is that I was a full fledged participant of the changes in the sixties - I know that it is important and change is hard and painful.

The irony of this is that the right which is definitely and stridently against this; is exactly opposite of the small government, individual responsibility, strong family values. Instead it represents them as anti first amendment (separation so church and state), anti science, as they represent homosexuality as a choice or psychological aberration, intrusive government. It also represents a total disconnect between a basic tenant of the Constitution, that being that the freedoms and rights of the minority are not subject to popular vote; is there anything that is more representative of that than the 30 some states that have actively banned gay marriage Basically the essence of hypocrisy.

I don't see it as a troll I see it as representative of the right wings core lack of rational thinking.

While to the best of my knowledge you and I have never debated;
by and large i find myself in dis-agreement with your world view.
Not this time, at least not entirely. One thing I would like to clear up
however, is the (to me, anyway) aparent obfuscation of terms.

The way I see it; I need the approval of no man, woman, child, dog,
nor that of any entity which exists solely in the imagination (god and/or
government) to condone my marriage...and neither does anyone else.

For once let us all be clear: it is not equal access to the "idea"
of marriage that we seek; lets face it - we want equal access to a tax break.

If tax break can also be a euphemism for all of the other legal advantages regarding succession of property etc.etc.etc. then yes.

I am an atheist my marriage is recognized by the state as a contractual agreement between me and my spouse, it is also recognized by our family and friends. That is all that is required.

The huge majority of those OBSESSED with the gay marriage issue are our country's bigoted Christians. Those folks just cannot take a break from the HATE to get concerned with REAL ISSUES in this country.

They are obsessed with the topic and the idiot republicans use it to their advantage to TROLL them in order to get their votes and keep them from seeing how much the republicans have ZERO of their best interests in mind.

They CON them in this manner to get their votes while keeping them loyal and BLINDED from the fact that republicans only true-love in this country is the WEALTHY. Therefore republicans rely on the religion-card to get votes from the non-wealthy masses.

So they troll the Christians with the Christian-card making them think that republicans are of the "christian" interest , but NOTHING can be farther than the truth on that one. Republicans are the COMPLETE TOTAL OPPOSITE of their Jesus character. Then again, so is the average CHRISTIAN also!!

Republicans rely on non-thinking, brain-dead folks. And who better than our Christians for them to seek votes from in that manner.

Delusional folks. And Republicans CAPITALIZE off of that.

I find irony in that when democrats bring up an issue in order to deflect from them ruining the country, and people respond, theblame gets placed on the people responding and not on the folks that initiated it.

Thing is, it's a non-issue and a big fail on the part of the liberals.

Because gay people are losing their jobs, gay people are suffering mortgage issues, gay people. . . . . well. . . are just people.

Democrats thrive on division.
Rch/poor.
Gay/straight.
Black/white.

So the focus is on how we differ, not all our common elements.

A spec of the population? Perhaps.

A spec of the gay community? Sorry but it is much much larger than that. In the gay community this is a big deal. Gay people have relationships just like straight people. It is a big deal to the gay community the same way as it would be a big deal to you or I if tomorrow the Federal Government made marriage illegal.

As far as weather it is a non issue or not... I am in agreement with many that it is a non issue. However, for me anyway, it is a non issue because the Government should never have any say so about who can or can not be in a committed relationship. At the end of the day, that is all marriage is. It is a promise in the eyes of your God to be faithful and committed to another person. Can anyone explain to me what the Government has to do with that? Or why they should be involved in that choice?

The truth is, marriage is a bit silly. Not so much because of the commitment being made, but because of how lightly we as a society make this decision. Really think about it.... straight couples get married and have marriages annulled within a matter of days. Yet I see no one up in arms when this happens screaming about the "sanctity of marriage". In Australia and India there are people who have actually married their dogs.

Australian Man marries dog

Man in India marries dog as atonement-MSNBC

Here is a story out of Thailand where a man marries his girlfriend..... who just so happened to already be dead.
Man marries dead girlfriend- Huff Post

In Sudan a man was order to marry a goat after he was found having sex with the animal.
Man marries goat captivates millions- BBC

In Japan a man even married a female character from a video game.
Man marries Video Game Character- CNN

Of course, leave it to news from Japan to even take things up an extra notch, as we have this story also from Japan of a man who married a pillow.... yes, a pillow.
Man marries Pillow

Now I admit, it does look like a nice comfortable pillow.... but still.

Now after reading all that, can anyone explain to me what is so wrong about gay people getting married? And please.... don't give me that nonsense about the "sanctity of marriage" as I have posted numerous examples of how "sanctity" simply does not apply to Marriage.

The real truth is the ONLY reason why the Government has any say in this issue to begin with is because of taxes. Legally Married people in the US get certain tax breaks that single people do not get. So if you are gay... your relationship status does not matter. In the eyes of the Government you are always "single"

I like how you have a name for everyone. All this right, left, liberal, conservative garbage. You ever stop to think that some people are just idiots that believe in a 2000 year old bed time story? There are reasons you seperate church from state (like why you seperate the cat in the hat from history class). On the other hand, who does the Government (or state) think they are to tell people who they can spend their life with? Control freaks much?

Smaller Government = solution.

You know who else is trying to distract people with mundane issues?

Answer: The GOP and the issue of abortion.

In other words, both sides have their own set of distractions. Republicans want Roe vs Wade gone. Democrats want marriage equality for homosexuals. I'm sure there are people in both camps that want neither.

ALL parties rely on distraction and division.

You really have got to re-think your mindless liberal-bashing because it contributes very little to this site.
