While to the best of my knowledge you and I have never debated;
by and large i find myself in dis-agreement with your world view.
Not this time, at least not entirely. One thing I would like to clear up
however, is the (to me, anyway) aparent obfuscation of terms.

The way I see it; I need the approval of no man, woman, child, dog,
nor that of any entity which exists solely in the imagination (god and/or
government) to condone my marriage...and neither does anyone else.

For once let us all be clear: it is not equal access to the "idea"
of marriage that we seek; lets face it - we want equal access to a tax break.

If tax break can also be a euphemism for all of the other legal advantages regarding succession of property etc.etc.etc. then yes.

I am an atheist my marriage is recognized by the state as a contractual agreement between me and my spouse, it is also recognized by our family and friends. That is all that is required.

I find irony in that when democrats bring up an issue in order to deflect from them ruining the country, and people respond, theblame gets placed on the people responding and not on the folks that initiated it.

Thing is, it's a non-issue and a big fail on the part of the liberals.

Because gay people are losing their jobs, gay people are suffering mortgage issues, gay people. . . . . well. . . are just people.

Democrats thrive on division.
Rch/poor.
Gay/straight.
Black/white.

So the focus is on how we differ, not all our common elements.

Who the hell gets married these days anyway?

And how many are actually waiting to get married? I bet its a spec of the population. A spec of the gay community.

A spec of the population? Perhaps.

A spec of the gay community? Sorry but it is much much larger than that. In the gay community this is a big deal. Gay people have relationships just like straight people. It is a big deal to the gay community the same way as it would be a big deal to you or I if tomorrow the Federal Government made marriage illegal.

As far as weather it is a non issue or not... I am in agreement with many that it is a non issue. However, for me anyway, it is a non issue because the Government should never have any say so about who can or can not be in a committed relationship. At the end of the day, that is all marriage is. It is a promise in the eyes of your God to be faithful and committed to another person. Can anyone explain to me what the Government has to do with that? Or why they should be involved in that choice?

The truth is, marriage is a bit silly. Not so much because of the commitment being made, but because of how lightly we as a society make this decision. Really think about it.... straight couples get married and have marriages annulled within a matter of days. Yet I see no one up in arms when this happens screaming about the "sanctity of marriage". In Australia and India there are people who have actually married their dogs.

Australian Man marries dog

Man in India marries dog as atonement-MSNBC

Here is a story out of Thailand where a man marries his girlfriend..... who just so happened to already be dead.
Man marries dead girlfriend- Huff Post

In Sudan a man was order to marry a goat after he was found having sex with the animal.
Man marries goat captivates millions- BBC

In Japan a man even married a female character from a video game.
Man marries Video Game Character- CNN

Of course, leave it to news from Japan to even take things up an extra notch, as we have this story also from Japan of a man who married a pillow.... yes, a pillow.
Man marries Pillow

Now I admit, it does look like a nice comfortable pillow.... but still.

Now after reading all that, can anyone explain to me what is so wrong about gay people getting married? And please.... don't give me that nonsense about the "sanctity of marriage" as I have posted numerous examples of how "sanctity" simply does not apply to Marriage.

The real truth is the ONLY reason why the Government has any say in this issue to begin with is because of taxes. Legally Married people in the US get certain tax breaks that single people do not get. So if you are gay... your relationship status does not matter. In the eyes of the Government you are always "single"

I like how you have a name for everyone. All this right, left, liberal, conservative garbage. You ever stop to think that some people are just idiots that believe in a 2000 year old bed time story? There are reasons you seperate church from state (like why you seperate the cat in the hat from history class). On the other hand, who does the Government (or state) think they are to tell people who they can spend their life with? Control freaks much?

Smaller Government = solution.

You know who else is trying to distract people with mundane issues?

Answer: The GOP and the issue of abortion.

In other words, both sides have their own set of distractions. Republicans want Roe vs Wade gone. Democrats want marriage equality for homosexuals. I'm sure there are people in both camps that want neither.

ALL parties rely on distraction and division.

You really have got to re-think your mindless liberal-bashing because it contributes very little to this site.
