How convenient...Space ships must of left and refueled. It miraculously found it's way to pointing to the sun again when they said they didn't know how long it would take to reset itself. lol Who are they fooling.

Looks like Venus to me...

Or at least a planet of some kind. I've seen the same thing on several SOHO videos before and it's usually a planet.

There seems to be 3 small orbs behind it. Will have to keep a watch out for that.

SOHO was up on May 8th for a while before encountering another reset. It has been up again since yesterday. It could be on its last legs.

The planet is Jupiter.

Wouldn't those orbs
just be planets?

The planet is Jupiter.

Isn't Jupiter behind the Sun in conjunction this week? It looks like Venus to me but watching its movement on LASCO C2 it doesn't appear to be on target for transit of the Sun. A little confused here.

I hope not, it has been a great tool.

The sun is just plain awesome!
No wonder it was worshiped for 1000's of years.

Yes, Jupiter is opposite the Sun from Earth. That's why it appears in the image. It is not "behind" the Sun because it is below the ecliptic.

Venus is currently the the left of the field of view. It moves much more swiftly than Jupiter and when it it does show up it will of course be on the ecliptic.

I wonder what this is? Above and to the right.

There's a thread linked HERE about it. It's a fiber on the CCD sensor of STEREO A COR2. It's in images since launch, never moves except when the craft rolls.

But now you know and that's one of the purposes of all this. I wouldn't have had a clue if not for that thread and the people who provided the relevant info.

Don't start with that one. You'll have everyone going. Some say it's been up there since it's launched SOHO.

Lol, I know. Went all the way back to 1998 or so and was still there.'
Know what though? It moved some between 3/22/07 and 3/23/07

That would be sort of difficult since STEREO A (the one with the fiber on the CCD) was launched 12 years after SOHO.
Still haven't figured out that there are different spacecraft?

It moves whenever the spacecraft rolls. Only when the spacecraft rolls and the same amount which the spacecraft rolls.
