Okay, no one is going to hear me race in with claims this happens all the time and it's really nothing to bother watching.

Yikes!

It's nothing SO rare as to stop work and drop everything, but I'm sure wide awake and looking for more now.

Errr.. sorry all.. I JUST got here and this was the first I saw. I didn't think this would have been the first thread.. how unhelpful of me. lol.. Here is the Epicenter as it's showing on the Euro systems

Any confirmation by our media ?

I took a moment to use the map search feature at the Euro version of the USGS and this is what I came up with:

Looks like this IS somewhat unusual. Hmm....

Source , Wikipedia.

The 1222 Cyprus earthquake occurred at about 06:15 UTC on 11 May. It had an estimated magnitude of 7.0–7.5 and triggered a tsunami that was recorded in Libya and Alexandria. The strongest shaking was felt in Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos.

I know it's only coincidence , but note the date

Apart from wrabbit's wonderful map epicentre pic - I too wondered how Israel felt it so much when it was reported as a Cyprus quake . Anyone wanting to verify it should go to EMSC - the European Meteoroligical Seismolgy Centre, you'll get a latest earthquakes option and within that all the 'felt' reports of people on the ground. A fair few in Israel and their testimony as to how it felt.

Big earthquakes with tsunami's hit Cyprus every couple hundred years or so. Hopefully there won't be any larger aftershocks. Does seem a little odd the quake came on the May 11 anniversary of the major 1222 quake?

If you are paranoid you could blame the Iranians for testing a nuke near the Israeli-Cypriot alliance I suppose. There is something going on that is for sure.

I guess there will be another earthquake in 13/14 May because if you look at the Mediterranean sea there is 2 days difference between each earthquake and another but not sure
