An old, well known bacteria has learned a new set of tricks that is turning deadly. A near epidemic of flesh eating bacteria, pneumonia, and heart tissue infections have suddenly sprung up across the country and is causing fatalities among even healthy people. .

Staphylococcus aureus, better known to as staph to the medical community has seen the once minor pathogen mutate into a drug resistant superbug. These super bacteria once confined to the sick or hospitalized have made their way out into the general public. The Centers for disease control is currently debating if they should require mandatory reporting of these infections. Basic hand washing and complete antibiotic cycles are the best ways to fight this disease according to the CBC

From Fred's link:

The infections will be a hot topic at the society's annual meeting this week in Boston. The group has been warning that drug companies aren't developing enough new antibiotics to avert a crisis.

Geez what can th drug companies be thinking? You'd think they'd be on top of this problem. Perhaps they don't see $$$ signs in marketing these drugs?

Kinda scary stuff here. Up until know, the best place to catch staph was in the hospital. So, where are these buggies congregating? Warm, humid environments in schools, workplaces, stores?
I'm glad I'm not into crowds for any reason. All the more reason to cocoon at home and hang out at ATS!
