Questions reguarding the oldest civilization...

Oldest civilization? Sumarian? Or the inhabitants of puma punku?

I am doing my own scientific breakdown of the oldest known civilization and its religious beliefs and stories. Back ten years ago I thought it was The sumerians. But I have heard the people that built puma punku are older by 2000 years. Or are the puma punku the ancestors to the sumerians and are their religious beliefs almost one in the same. I have heard of a culture some 14,000 some odd years. My friend also believes the Chinese Empire is. The belief differs around the world I guess. What I want to know is what the overall professional consensus is.

The earliest evidence for Chinese civilisation is only about 3,700 years ago - the Shang Dynasty so it isn't really in the running.

In contrast, the European Minonian civilisation goes back 4,700 years Minoans and Mycenae 2700 - 1100 BCE

Good question, problably impossible to answer. Anyway, take a look what I posted some time ago :

The oldest one? of course that is determined by your definition of "civilisation" in my opinion.

I strongly believe in at least 1 pretty high developed pre-flood civilisation. Call it Atlantis, Lemuria or whatever.
Again, one has to define "developed" here! Spritually, technologically, writing, cruise missiles ?
Maybe they only wrote on paper and it's long gone by now... The Pyramids ALL over the world are just one example. Or monolithic structures, some of them deep underwater, astronomically alligned, sacred mathematics and the list goes on and on... As if they knew : Maybe one day our civilisation will be forgotten, so how can we leave a message for future generations?

I love the work of Graham Hankock but theres a lot of other stuff out there that has led me to that assumption.

During an Anthropology course I read a bit about the Joman people, who actually seem to date quite sometime ago.

Seeing that I was raised in Florida, I found the excavation of Windover people to be quite amazing and old as well.

I have read in a book that the oldest "Materailized" civilization would have been Lumeria around a million years ago...cant remember the book but I will try to find it a home tonight and put the title here when I find it...then would have come Atlantis...and so on.

I am aware that I cannot take what I have read in that book with any certainty but I remember the way it was put made perfect sense to me.

Anyway I stumbled upon this timeline while researching on the subject just now...

You're right about the definition.

Wiki has a reasonably good one, and discusses differences of opinion among Anthropologists.

Generally, a definition for civilization includes organized agriculture, some kind of societal organization (government,) a written language, division of labor and free time for members.

There's a lot of other things, but the above are common elements to most of the definitions of civilization.

Regarding the second part of your post I quoted, you're crazy.

Awesome contribution,
Lindow man is a but an infant compared to the other two.
The report from Florida is very exciting, it shows that people of the time weren't always wandering nomads as has been a popular misconception.
I also can't help but notice some similarities with sites of the same age, here in central cal and in Nevada, spirit cave in particular. There is a site in stanislau county, around 7k- 8k
years old where bodies were buried wrapped in woven plant fiber cloths, same at spirit cave in nev.
Also at the same time these places were wetlands along post glacial lake and wetlands of the san joaquin valley in cal.

There are many sites yet to be uncovered. South America has some old sites. But if you were to talk before the ice age I would say you would have to look off the coasts in the oceans.

Building practices in before 10000 bc utilized more organic methods and materials that would decompose leaving little or no trace of their existence.

One thing is for sure that the oldest structures yet to be found will be buried by dirt or water. Something great happened in our past.
