"Diseases of civilization" were rare prior to the introduction of agriculture. Mummies of the ancient Egyptians show much evidence of cancer and other diseases of civilization. Eliminating grains from the diet should be beneficial.

Quite right. A high sugar diet particularly has a link to cancer. A low carb diet starves tumors. You might find this link interesting. www.sciencedaily.com...

Most people assume cancer is a modern thing. It's nice to know someone else here knows a bit about it. You might find this interesting:

Cancer and Roman medicine

Karamanou M, Androutsos G, Diamantis A. Source Department of History of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Athens, Athens, Greece.
Abstract

In this article we present the opinions of some eminent Roman physicians about cancer. We emphasize the points of view of Galen, famous Roman physician of Greek origin whose doctrines dominated medicine for more than 15 centuries. We then cite the opinions about cancer of some other outstanding physicians of that period like Celsus, Pliny, Leonidis of Alexandria, Aretaeus of Cappadocia, Soranus of Ephesus etc. We also quote some examples of cancer and we describe what those physicians thought of its pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment.

So much for it being caused my modern chemical and GM food. A modern high carb diet seems to be a trigger for it, as does living into old age.
