Famed hair stylist and fashion icon Vidal Sassoon died after a long illness, and the Los Angeles County coroner's office has plans for an autopsy.

Such a sad day, another legend has left us.

He was such an inspirational figure for so many artists.

Sadly, I've never gotten the opportunity to have met him before.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vidal Sassoon CBE, who died this morning at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by loved ones. The 84 year old hairdresser was born in 1928 and sadly lost his battle with leukaemia today. He became the most celebrated hairdresser in the world having begun his career as an apprentice during the Second World war going on to revolutionise the industry through his iconic haircuts, salons, schools and product lines. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 20 years Ronnie, his children, grandchildren, family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be sent to American Friends of The Hebrew University in support of The Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Anti-Semitism- 11500 W. who cares? I mean, sure, for his relatives this must be painful as is every death of a loved one. Mr Sassoon had a nice life, probably. I sympathize with his relatives, sincerely. All lives come to an end.

but then again, I care more for the children who died today because they have no access to good water.

I was thinking I brought in some "heart", some "respect"
on the other hand, can't you expect people at ATS to be critical?

As others here mentioned already (I included it as well):
why should this death be worth mentioning more than the death of children who did die that some day?
why should we celebrate some person who entertained celebs?

Mind you, I had the same feeling when Jobs died and the world felt the need to try to turn him into a saint.
Contrary to you a lot of readers enjoyed my critical essays I published in some leading newspaper (in Dutch. Too bad, otherwise I would share)
