People commending a President for weighing in on a religious institution such as marriage

How annoying. Read the history of marriage.

Today's American LEGAL Marriage is a government contract between 2 people joining together as one household. NOTHING in that contract reflects religion.

The American Legal Marriage License originated to prevent inter-racial marriage. The marriage license came about to make discrimination legal.

The Catholic church got involved in marriage licenses when they found they could make money doing it.

Women were property - - to be used - traded - bought - sold - etc.

In today's world - - Cristian's have at least a 50% divorce rate.

Yeah well - - I'm 100% voting for Obama.
I'm 100% voting for his gay rights announcement
And since I'm 65 - - - I'm beyond childish.

Good, and I hope all goes well for YOU...

So people who are 65 can't be childish? Ever seen the movie Cocoon?

Seems to me that you view marriage as simply a piece of paper acquired from a county clerk.

Yet if you were to ask any two people in love regardless of gender on both sides, you would more often than not find that they expect everything that comes with getting married; like standing in a church in front of a priest waiting for him to say "you may kiss the ______".

Might just be me but i NEVER view comments from politicians as cut and dry, black or white.

I follow gay equality very closely.

LBGTQ representatives have been visiting and discussing their issues with Obama

Why does the gay community keep adding letters to it's acronym?

What does the Q stand for?

If Q stands for queers then get rid of the LBGT . Adding the Q is redundant and disingenuous.

I got a acronym for this whole topic. BS

THis whole mess is yet another contrived scenario fabricated for a reason and timed perfectly to raise $15 million in one night for Obama

Obama admits that he has been milking this for quite some time

Take a listen to this clip from ABC’s full interview with Barack Obama on same-sex marriage. When Robin Roberts pressed Obama about whether he was angry at Joe Biden for forcing the President’s hand on the issue, Obama says that Biden “got out a little over his skis” on the topic, but that he doesn’t have any hard feelings about it. That, however, isn’t the big takeaway here:

obama's words

I had already made a decision that we were going probably take this position before the election and before the convention. He probably got out a little bit over his skis, but out of generosity of spirit.

Defend this

Mull that one over for a little bit. For months, the White House has claimed that Obama’s thoughts on the issue were “evolving,” but that he didn’t have his mind made up. That lasted through Tuesday, including two days in which the White House tried to argue that Biden hadn’t actually endorsed legalizing same-sex marriage and that his position wasn’t different from the President’s.

Now we discover — from Obama himself — that he’d made up his mind to change his position some time ago. Rather than honestly express that flip-flop in a timely manner or at least acknowledge the change when asked directly, though, Obama and the White House essentially lied about it for a while — at least on Monday and Tuesday, and presumably for a while prior to Biden’s statement on Sunday. Apparently, Obama was satisfied until Sunday to have the White House keep right on misleading people through to the convention, too. Instead of taking a principled stand, Obama wanted time his pander for the most politically opportune time, even if that meant continuing to fib about his position.

Fabricated...you mean he is lying about it???
I love how conservatives are so butt hurt over this.

But let's say for a moment that you are right...and he did this at this time to help his fundraising....we both know politics is a game....so I guess you are just endorsing Obama on a hand well played.

I do love how conservatives will claim that this is going to destroy Obama in swing states AND he is only doing it to get support in the same sentence....their heads are spinning and they aren't sure what to really say or think about this.

All I know is...Good Job Obama...stop being afraid of what the people on the Right are going to think...most people don't think like them. If he keeps it up, and stops trying to pander to the right....this election will be an easy win.

Even the MSM said this issue was a waste of time...Bad timing...When we get a better President we will all be happy..Even the gays...It's a win win situation. We will all be happy...

This argument is becoming childish.

If by the MSM you mean Fox News...then yes...they are saying this is a stupid issue.

Everyone else is still applauding him for it that I can see.

But I understand...you want this to go away because it is good news for Obama and it has made his base rock solid.

You can just go close your eyes and stick your head in the sand and pretend none of this is going on...but the rest of us aren't going to.

Note I said contrived scenario!! as it has played out. I already knew about Obama's stance based on his 1996 interview. Just illuminating the manipulation.

When has he ever been afraid of what people on the Right are going to think?? He is always pandering to the left and to opinion polls. Pandering to the right?? You're funny... I have yet to see him reach across the aisle on any major issue and the social issues?? forget about it...

Thanks for my first Friday laugh!

Just trying to sell your thread...
Stop with the jokes. I'm just presenting some much needed factual information as it develops. Form your own opinion. I'm sure you already have... So did Obama back in 1996, 1998, 2004, 2008, 2010,2012

The "Q" means Questioning.

Sexual orientation is all shades of gray. Its not always clear. Such as: Transgender. If you are a woman born in a male physical body - - even though you are attracted to men - - you are not homosexual. You are Transgender.

You can call it whatever you want. Against any other candidate it would be called a flip-flop.
Did anyone ever think Obama would be against gay marriage? C'mon. He just didn't have the cahones to admit it publicly until "Say It Ain't So, Joe" (Biden) launched a trial balloon for him.

I am (was) a 40 year registered Republican. FOX news used to be my station to watch.

I can't pinpoint exactly when they crossed the line into over-the-top insanity - - - but they definitely did.

As there is no real hope left of any kind of sanity with Republicans - - - I finally re-registered as non-affiliated.

GO! OBAMA! That was a brave step forward.

As I've previously stated - - I follow the gay issue very closely.

LBGTQ representatives have been at the White House in discussions with Obama from the beginning. When he said he was personally evolving - - he was. And for the reasons he stated.

From the beginning Obama was open to hearing from his LBGTQ supporters. And they made sure he heard them.

Was there a strong push from the LBGTQ community for Obama to publicly support them? Yes there definitely was.

I don't care about the timing - - it was going to happen.

And I'd venture to say you made a conscious choice to be the way you are.

What, precisely, threw you over the edge?

Because the majority of your posts are aimed at discrediting those on the right, bashing Christianity and singing the praises of a socialist.

He isn't flip flopping his official politcal stance on it...he still says it is an issue for States to deal with.

He is claiming his personal opinion of the matter has evolved and changed.

Oh no...someone open their mind, listened to people, and evolved their thinking.....I know it is shocking for some people...but not everyone has to be completely rigid in their thinking.

Hi.

After seeing the positive consequences of Obama's announcement (which I did NOT expect!), I have kind of changed my stance on this and have pretty much come to this conclusion:

Obama and his team of brilliant campaign strategists saw what was happening in North Carolina and asked themselves how they could use it to their advantage for their campaign. (This is what politicians do.) So, they made this announcement figuring it would boost his donations. And they were right.

Donations Flow Into Obama Campaign

I don't think Obama, after all he's been through, could be as progressive as he is and still think that gays shouldn't marry. It just doesn't make sense. It never did for me. I remember being pissed when he made the announcement - he thought marriage was between a man and a woman.

I think he has always supported marriage equality. That's not something that you waver back and forth on. Once you realize that it's wrong to deny civil rights and liberties to a group of people, you don't go back on that. And if he said he supported marriage equality before 2008 and then "lost his support" for the 2008 campaign, and now he's found it again?

Most likely, he has always supported it but lied in 2008 to gain Christian support.

I'm just glad he has come clean.
He is taking his slogan of FORWARD seriously and I hope that he continues in that vein.
