I want to know why Gay people want to be allowed to marry. Is it for the simple benefits that society affords the union of marriage? Or is it because it really pisses off christians?

I would imagine it's the same reason that Straight people want to get married. Love.

If, as you say, you want to be with someone you love... What the hell does what anyone else think about your relationship, matter? "Oh they're married. That's great!" Big deal. Many heterosexuals don't even care that much about marriage.

Exactly, it shouldn't matter what anyone thinks. But apparently it does to some straight people who for some inexplicable reason want to prevent other people from marrying each other based solely on their sexual orientation. Many homosexuals I imagine don't care about marriage either. But it would be a nice option to have.

If it's about being accepted, then why make it apparent that it's simply a hurdle/obstacle to overcome. Why?

Because it's about equality, it's about freedom, it's about love.

"Marriage? What is this... I don't care for it." "Oh you mean they tell me I can't get married? WHY DAMN THEM!! I DEMAND MY RIGHTS!"

But what about the ones that WANT to get married? Shouldn't they be able to marry the people they love if they so choose?

It's all a bit stupid if you ask me. Like a guy protesting at every opportunity because he's not allowed to play netball on an all girls team. It's discrimination I tell you!

It is stupid, it's stupid that some people think that just because someone is different from them, that they shouldn't be able to do something that is enjoyed by others.

Lets ban Marriage - then everyone can be equal.

For me, having been married once, it's a pain in the ass, but I don't think I have a right to tell others to not do something that I don't want to do myself. I learned my lesson, but I believe that everyone regardless of sexual orientation has the right to be miserable and trapped in a loveless marriage just the same.

Does it affect me at all if a homosexual couple gets married? No, it neither positively or negatively affects me in the slightest.

Should they have the right to marry the person they love? Sure, no skin off my nose. What should I care?

And that's the simple truth, in all reality, it doesn't really affect anyone else but the two people who want to marry each other.

There are many MANY valid reasons why it matters!
How would you feel if the person you were married to went into hospital and you weren't allowed to visit? This has and still does happen to gay people who are in relationships!
How would you feel if you knew the day you died your estate would NOT go to the person you loved and YOU would want to have your estate? This has and still does happen to gay people who are in relationships!
Why should we be denied THE RIGHT to live our lives just the way you live yours! You too would demand the right to live your life the way everybody else does if you saw and understood that you were being discriminated against! Discrimination is discrimination no matter what you call it!

Gay marriage thrown out by all 31 U.S. states where it has been put to vote

Such unions have now been refused in all 31 states where the issue has been put directly to the electorate.

Five states have legalised gay 'marriage' - Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Iowa - but all did so through legislation or court rulings.

DailyMail

Many people feel that marriage is a union between a man and a women.

Not enough people go out and vote. Only 2 million of NC's 9.2 million citizens voted for their recent amendment.

The lack of mandatory voting in the US allows for the bigots to oppress minorities and in some cases even majorities.

"To everyone who opposes Gay Marriage and and believes your Bible gives you the moral authority to dictate the rights of others, your children will look at you like we look at those who told blacks and women that they don't have the same rights as white men. You are on the wrong side of history and your bull# will die with you."

How many more of these "I am not a Homophobe BUT..." threads are there going to be started by STRAIGHT people? It seems as though there is new one every week!
Have you straight people got nothing better to do than butt your noses into the gay residents of the planets bedrooms? How boring your lives must be!
And to all of you who keep saying "If the entire planets population was gay we would die out" I ask you, What's the chance of the entire planets population being gay? Exactly ZERO!
And do try and keep in mind that all of these gay people that you are attempting to keep down are born to you, you made us, you our straight parents!
Any straight folks here want to earn some flags and stars? Start an anti-gay thread!!!!!

The phrase that always springs to mind when these types of threads pop up, is;

"Thou protesteth too much"

I truly cant believe this is still an issue in modern day society.

Did we not learn our lesson from Interracial marriage and the fight to make that legal? Probably a notion so silly now that most people didnt know it was a taboo in the first place.
Do we not learn nothing from our past mistakes?

I think you will find that most, if not all, discrimination is practised by those who have never experienced it firsthand themselves!
They then pick a fight with those who make them feel insecure in their cozy little lives because we dare to question or threaten the status quo that they have become so used to!

Who cares?

Churches can decide to marry whoever they want and whoever they don't want
It's their church!

Marriage is not a right either FYI

No.

Simple as that. Marriage is a useless concept. The only real reason I see two sem sex couples wanting the same thing as christians have, is -- well spite.

If you love your partner, who cares.

WHO CARES?

Oh but bring it all up into a spotlight and make it seem as if you've hard done by.

Hey, boys... put your croquet outfits on, forget your trousers, and HEY HEY HEY!! .. oh wait, that sounds redundantly stupid.

Should it be law that a man can wear cotton skirts? NO .. they can if they want.

YOU CAN SNOG YOUR LOVED ONE, hell even in public as it is.

You want to make a fuss, simple. You want to make sure people know you are gay. Simple. Else, you'd not have a problem.

* please anyone coming into this do not start to assume. ok. just asking*

you cant become a nun either. Do you want to start next on how that is a problem for homosexuals? Cant become nuns. OMG thats discrimination.

blah, more and more people accept gay relationships and so they should, it matters not a jot to them otherwise.

But whatever, I'll just see a new parade this year with men parading around in nun habbits, and mocking christian values, gyrating in each others cracks, all in the name of tolerance.

just grow up and fix the issue... or you prefer being put on the spot as an icon.

Nope. People want to be able to legally marry in the eyes of the state, not church) their partner's because it will allow them to have the same access to benefits that straight couples have. And why shouldn't they?

Pretty simple and obvious, really. Study the issue a bit.

do you think it would not be better to fix THAT problem, than say "I cant get married boo hoo"

What you describe had nothing to do with marriage, but recognition. RECOGNITION.

I recognise a union between two people, gay or not. Marriage is an outdated peice of paper that lets you tell others.

FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS.. bloody hell, stop coat tailing on a ridiculous xtian practice. Just seems to me a lot of people FOR gay 'marriage' just want to piss xtians off...

youd be fighting for proper rights and not some religious ruling that you know 100% is against your very nature. I mean come one, scream it enough people will hide.. but facts are facts.

if you want to be seen as equal in love and as partners, it's got NOTHING to do with a religios marriage.

You clearly know nothing about how this actually works.

Marriage is a LEGAL institution and definition.Someone wanting to get married does not have to mean a connection to a church.

Furthermore, this specific ruling makes ANY KIND OF CIVIL UNION ILLEGAL (including common law marriages), so your solution is void.

Educate yourself on the issues you comment on.
