doesn't look serious at all.. judging by the forecast model it looks like we are only getting a glancing blow from the edge of the flare

yeah for future reference,.
we have already had 2 X flares this year,. and both were not a direct hit.
But if you see a spot kick off an X that is strait on,. then be concerned.
Also the sun is not predicted to be a serious concern till December 2012, Jan, Feb March 2013

yeah, I watch spaceweather and solarham all the time. It's just an M1...nothing to even pause for.

The sunspot (1476) is big and appears to be building in complexity. There is a 10% chance of an x-class in the next 24-48 hours. I'll keep my eyes on it.

For anything to be "profound or significant, it needs to be up in the range of an X-9 or greater...the Carrington Event was ridiculously large...greater than X-45 but I cannot recall the actual rating

Very much agreed. I am watching to see what that one does as it moves into position to be Earth facing. When I first saw this thread I thought that 1476 was the one they were talking about but it wasnt in position yet to threaten Earth.

Anyway Dymiox is right. Lets keep an eye on 1476.
