WASHINGTON -- Former presidential hopeful Rick Santorum urged his supporters to back fellow Republican Mitt Romney's campaign Monday in a late-night email that ignored the fact that Santorum once called Romney the "worst Republican in the country" during their bitter contest.

I haven't seen a thread about this yet so I figured I would throw one up as I'm sure some people have some things they would like to say about it. I personally think it's ridiculous that Romney has even made it this far and just furthers my belief that this political system of ours is fubar and pretty much beyond repair.

Most Republicans are moderates and don't want an activist like Paul or Santorum.

Romney's support comes as no surprise.

Of course the Establishment is afraid now and was prepared to pay a huge sum to Santorum for this endorsement, since it was not likely to happen without their intervention. It was needed in order to give Romney some more delegates vs Paul, since they absolutely cannot risk him winning, they need a puppet they can control as the President.

This is just further proof how desperate they are.

Next up: God endorsing the Devil, urging people to go to hell since heaven is too crowded.

Pretty much sums it up, just put Santorums name in instead of Gingrich

You can tell it was forced. Usually the best things come to those who wait, but when something like that takes this long........

It was like pulling teeth. Very painful just to watch.

I say we let Washington run themselves. They do anyway, why do they need us? Ignore them all. We the people can govern ourselves just fine and the rest of the world might actually start respecting us again.

It doesnt matter WHO supports Romney,,STILL ONLY 120 people showed up to see him in OHIO...My prediction is ROMNEY will quit NOT because he lost 8 states in a row at the caucas but he WILL lose the rest. Even though he has hundreds of "unsecured" delegates, he will quit to save himself the embarassment, Then the media will say that Paul won by default.

"Santorum endorses Romney, barely."

Fixed that for you.

Just a case of, "If ya can't beat'em, join'em." Ingratiating himself for future favors if Romney wins.
We are so screwed.

An 11pm email rather than a prime time press conference is hardly a resounding endorsement.

Santorum probably hoping that if Romney fails against Obama that Santorum will be able to run in 2016, and just wants to keep the GOP establishment happy.

It's interesting that Santorum flip flops on supporting the biggest flip flopper in the history of the GOP.

It's a nice dream that you're having.

Next up, Ron Paul will be supporting Romney at the Convention.

You all don't think Romney and his massive political war chest are just going to lie down or go away do you?

There won't be heroin in every Seven Eleven for sale, there won't be any massive closings of millitary bases around the world or a new millitary guarded "Berlin Wall" on the Mexican border. None of them nutjob platforms of Ron Paul's will be adopted but he may get a Cabinet position where he can get called before Congress to Rant and Rave so they can ignore him like they always have for 30 years.

We're talking about the same Paul who refused to endorse McCain back in '08, right?

No, Paul will not endorse Romney, for endorsing Romney would be selling out the movement that he's spent all these years leading, and trying to foster. We have multiple debates and interviews where the speakers have asked all of the candidates if they'd support the end nominee, and even more that have asked Paul in particular, and Paul has always basically stated that he wouldn't (linky).

If you watch that video, you will know right after the first couple of things Paul lists off that Romney would never do any of those things, therefor leading to him, in all likelihood, never getting Paul's support.

This is what you do for your party. If you are not willing to support your parties nominee then you should get out. If Santorum had not done this he would become a party pariah, been seen as backing Obama, and blamed for Romney losing the election. Refusing is hypocritical because he would have expected the party to fully back him should he have won.

The same Paul who had zero leverage to gain anything out of endorsing McCain. Quite simply McCain didn't want or need his endorsement and Paul didnt have anything to bargain with to make his endorsement worth anything.

Romney probably doesn't want it or need it either but the GOP may need it to have a smooth Convention. Paul has a blackmail card in his back pocket with all his twisting of the rules. He can't gain the nomination but his endorsement might be worth something this time around to the GOP. That's about all he can hope to gain from all these stealing delegates moves he coordinated.

Paul hasn't stolen anything, the only people who say that are simply those who believe that the primary is a more valid way of deciding support. The rules are in place for a reason, if a state doesn't bind its delegates to the winner of a straw poll then that simply means that the state does not hold the straw poll to be valid. Paul and his supporters aren't stealing or twisting anything, it's the failure of the Romney campaign to garner enough support to gather the delegates that the straw polls would project that they should get.

Just saw on FOXNews, down on the bottom list of VP candidates for Romney is Rand Paul.....hmmm do you think Ron Paul is doing all of this to blackmail his son onto the ticket? With delegate leverage he could propel Rand Paul from the bottom tier of picks to the top tier, promise an endorsement to Romney and the GOP gets a nice choreographed Convention.
With Rand Paul on the campaign trail as VP stumping for Romney going against Obama he would give his son the star spotlight that he never was able to attain. Even if Romney loses his son gets to get into national spotlight attention.
Just look at all the attention Palin got last time around.

Wow you have an active imagination. I seem to recall you, among a few, denying ANY form of foul play when voting fraud was running rife through the caucuses and primaries, but all of a sudden, Paul - now he is winning state after state in terms of delegates - must be cheating. Laughable.

As for getting into bed with Romney to seal the deal for Rand Paul - speculative rubbish.

Thanks for your comments though on this thread - needed a laugh
