Why I Would Choose President Obama If I Was American

Unlike other threads advocating Mitt Romney as the candidate of choice. I ask you, has President Obama lost your trust in these four years? Has he made a seemingly inescapable recession even more inescapable? Finally, has he not vouched for issues you truly care about? Issues such as raising employment, reducing America's debt to overseas countries, and getting insurance to those who need it most is something any President would have had a hard time constructing in a cut-back economy.

It is worth pausing for a moment of reflection. If you are able to pause for such a moment you are doing relatively okay. Do not forget that old adage that there is always someone worst off than you. When President Obama became the first African-American President America ever had, it seemed as if better times were ahead. Now I know that during those four years some of you may have experienced loss. A loss of credit, job loss, maybe even the loss of a loved one. Yet, is the grass truly greener on the Republican side? As an outsider, literally I'm in Canada! I have been fortunate enough to study American Politics for some time now. Campaign promises are forged and undone. Do not get me wrong. President Obama also made some promises that have not been kept but for good reason. The promise I know you know of, and which comes first to mind, involved closing Gitmo. Guantanamo Bay's Prison facilities you see were, and still are, state of the art. Closure would have involved not freeing of the inmate but relocation altogether. Relocation involves funding. Arguably, it was a better investment for President Obama to invest in American Banks and Automobile Companies than prison relocation.

Closure of Guantanamo Detention Facilities

This is the part where you yell at your screen and say, "Why MysteriousHusky that's totally bogus! More money was spent in bailing out those companies than would have been spent relocating to another facility!" To refute that fictional scenario let me say the following. Money that was spent in what has since been known as the bailout has since been flooded back into the American economy. I will not go too deep analyzing whether that money is now in China but I will say just as the life of a dollar bill often changes hands numerous times in its existence so too was the case when this cash was injected into the American economy.

Ultimately, entire books have been written about the Obama Presidency. I am sure, in time, a movie will be made as well. Yet, consistency has been the hallmark of his tenure thus far. While I admit Congress has at times had its ups and downs President Obama has not, as I hear the kids say, been "played". He knows what needs to be done and he knows how to do it. Furthermore, I implore you to visit the website of the White House where you can find his Weekly Address and download the video podcasts on iTunes or your other podcast receivers. Each week the President has sat down and shared with, for lack of a better word, the common folk, thoughts, events, and significant happenings both at home and around the world. Regardless of whether or not he uses a teleprompter, he is primed for re-election. The only roadblock is whether you will have him for four more years.

Of course, four more years does not mean same-old, same-old. I am sure it is every Democrat's dream to have the Republicans give up all hope after the 2012 election and vow their undying loyalty but in reality, and as some have argued, the current system of American politics dominated by the Democrats and the Republicans (note how I did not simply say two-party system) serves but one - the people of the United States. As of late this has been complicated by politicians like Mitt Romney and his infamous quote of "corporations are people".

To play devil's advocate one can argue that via the bailout, President Obama has done more for corporations than Mitt Romney's "corporations are people" quote. While you would initially be right, it is also worth reminding you that the bailout money was released to help many businesses and not merely one business. This trickle-down effect has, in my opinion, led to greater stability as financial institutions and the stock market have not been forced to act suddenly in the interest of self-preservation. For statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics see: www.bls.gov... for your regional area.

While as a Canadian I will not implore you to vote either way I hope this brief sketch wets your interest to learn more about what the Obama Presidency has done because at the end of the day, there is still more to be done to help not just Joe from St. Louis, or Bill from Missouri, but everyone who wants in.

The thing is he hasn't stabilised the economy, the countries debt has gone up massively, he back tracked on his promises including leaving the middle east, he constantly holidays and he all he ever does is say is 'change' is coming. All he has done is made the US a weaker country, there is no doubting that.

This thread sums it up quite well. www.abovetopsecret.com...

I think he has done some good things but he signed the 2012 NDAA into law, "with reservations", which is so loosely written that it could be used to detain anyone indefinitely , anytime, anywhere by the military and all on their say so (forget your lawyer) ...... A hugely dangerous law.

For someone who has studied our political system, it's funny how easily fooled you are.

Both parties are advancing the same agenda, and neither cares about the good of America or the people that live in it.

Living in Canada, have you opened up the help wanted ads? Have you tried applying for a job here? Have you tried to find goods manufactured by America? Do you pay TAXES here?

I'm guessing the answer is no to all of the above questions...

You are a spectator, not a participant, so while your perspective is valid (because it is your perspective), I don't see how it is relevant.

Every President we've had for decades has destroyed this country piece by peace.

We fall deeper into debt, people have given up looking for work, most families are moving in with other families to lower overall expenses while continuing to live off the back of welfare, PAID for by the taxpayers.

You have no clue.

The only candidate, or politician for that matter, that has made any difference is Ron Paul. His voting record speaks for itself. He is honest. He is the people's choice, regardless of what the main stream media is trying to black out. His plans for this country are tangible and make sense.

Either way, the two-party system is a farce and an illusion. As long as we believe there is a choice, we will fight over the choice and not the actual problem. Your view from over the border doesn't change that.

I respect your right to your opinion... but you know what they say about opinions, eh? They're like butt holes... everyone has one and they usually stink.

~Namaste

I respect your perspective. My response would be to suggest that Ron Paul would be surrounded by colleagues who may not share his perspective. Executive power may not be enough to overcome stigma by existing members and it would be interesting if he is elected to see whether he knows, for lack of a better term, "how to play the game".

I think it was Kinky Friedman who's campaign slogan was " You could do worse". Same here. Obama, in my modest opinion, has done pretty well so far. We haven't been blown up (again), we've been making slow but steady strides towards improving the economy ( which beats a fast ride to the top followed by another bubble ) and he's taken out some key terrorists. He's been putting out 8 years worth of fires in 4 years, and please, folks, this is a big, BIG country. It's not easy to turn this around, and it doesn't help that the republican congress has been fighting him tooth and nail every stinking step of the way. Those of us who don't have any idea ( no matter what the talking heads on tv say, what do they know either) its not like waving a magic wand to make jobs return, or the economy to suddenly poop gold bricks on the 99%. We are no longer alone on the economic front, either. As much as the older generation hates it, our economy is intertwined with what goes on in Europe, Asia, and other developed countries.
I will grant that there are quite a few lazy so-and-so's out there who wouldn't get off their couches and work if you put a gun to their heads, and yes, they think they deserve hand outs. I don't think so. AND, if you get help from the government, be it SSI, welfare, help with children or what ever, you should A. Take random drug tests, and B. Either be actively looking for a job or getting trained for one. People can't make diddly squat working at Wal-Mart, Target, or Fred's. You can't live off of those earnings. Something about that has to be done, I think. And whatever you do, if you can't afford to feed yourself, don't have CHILDREN. Don't be out spending what little money you have on cigarettes, either. What a freaking waste of money! You're burning your cash, you ninnies!!!! Spending money on lottery tickets? Oh damn, that's just a tax on idiots. The lucky one who wins winds up giving a huge chunk of it back in taxes anyway. Sorry for the rant. But the ones I just addressed are the ones who are against Obama, and they're just cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

I'm all for Paul too, but if he got in, he'd be surrounded by backstabbers. Good thing he's a doctor, he could stitch himself back up. He'd have to fight congress just to wipe his own behind in the morning.

Technically it's like the 6th party system now I believe. With that said, I respect your opinion. I do not live in the US nor have I tried to apply for a job there. What I can say I have done is study the Electoral College - the ultimate deciders of who holds the Office of the Presidency. If they, and I surely hope this is not the case, but if they are so emotionally and physically unattached to the United States this election will surely be interesting. After all, we cannot all have second homes in the Cayman Islands, but I am pretty certain that if given the opportunity, members of the College will not let America be destroyed so long as they have an investment in it - an investment President Obama has injected a massive amount of cash into.

I believe Newsmax is the publication you get free with those flashlight radios. I see the ads for them even in Canada. Don't get me wrong, I am sure bad stuff is happening but... it could be worse.

It could be worse...? Hmmm.

Worse than 8, maybe 9, wars going on?

Worse than 88 MILLION US Adults unemployed?

Worse than $4.00+ a gallon of gas?

Worse than Fast & Furious?

Worse than Obamacare being before the SCOTUS?

Worse than NOT ONE PIECE OF Legislation getting past Congress? (when they controlled both house no less!), except Obamacare-refer back to the previous statement about the illegality of that deal.

Worse than NO ONE balance budget in THREE YEARS... Matter of fact NO BUDGET, let alone balanced.

Worse than Obama begging the Russian President for a little more time because he'll have more flexibility if he is reelected?

Worse then adding 6+ trillion to the National Debt?

Worse than giving money to so-called Green Technology Companies that go belly up within a year of receiving MILLIONS of taxpayer money?

Worse than owing over 1/2 of you national G.D.P to the Chinese Gov't?

Worse than at least two Terrorism supporting countries obtain the ability to make nuke weapons?

And so on and so on.

We agree 100% on that.

We could end up with a Canadian for President instead of a Kenyan.

Please, I strongly suggest that you read "The Creature From Jekyll Island" by Ed. Griffin... if Obama was a great President, he would have ended the Federal Reserve his first year in office. It's the reason you pay twice what we do for most of your goods.

Also, take a look at this site - endthelie.com...

It will help you understand why Obama is no different than the Fed and why the Electoral College, made up of the same "kind" of people, won't be the ones to save this country from going off the edge of the cliff.

Thanks for the link. I took the time to read it and here are my two cents while they're still in Canadian circulation (Canadian Mint joke).

1. I'm a huge fan of the venn diagrams they clarify things a lot making it easy to interpret for almost anyone. With that said, the Monsanto part kind of took me by surprise. I've also studied Monsanto, seen the film about it, "The World According to Monsanto" and know that they were driven from the UK and kind of established HQ in America branching out to Canada, spreading their seeds then suing farmers for possessing them. I think I condensed a decade of history in two lines but I am still surprised how much progress they made in the Clinton admin.

2. You cannot fault the Obama admin for the, what I call, baggage of history. Pacts were made in the past and to maintain party support any figurehead has to comply at times. In terms of consequences, the fact that Obama and Disney have not made headline news is a sign that
a) influence is not as effective as you might believe
b) Disney trojan horse is still waiting

3. Goldman Sachs is expected, you have to work with them after they pretty much engineered the collapse.

4. Oil was surprising, I imagine after the BP Oil Spill Obama backed away.

Not going to lie. I liked the videos you added. They make him seem, more human. Now I get you and the makers of those vids were poking fun at him but who doesn't stutter now and then when trying to please massive amounts of people. With that said, very funny at times. However, I'm sure those clips probably aren't some of his favorite moments.

The problem with obama and the democrats is that they are liberals rather than progressives.

Of course the right wingers will label obama as a socialist when he is very, very, very, very far from that!

He could not be a socialist even if he wanted to. JFK was the closest thing to left and got killed by the right wing lunatics.

Where to start from that pissed me off: the massive "too big to fail" bailouts? the war with libya? the secret bailout of european nations? the lack of empathy towards the gulf of mexico victims? the lack of determination to prosecute BP? the lack of pro-america protectionism? does even know what protectionism is?

The president is not the problem, rather the people who vote for and tolerate lame duck candidates and parties ARE! "they are all the same...blah, blah, blah, blah, blah." NO YOU are wrong! Vote left and MAYBE something will get done correctly, or sit there blaming everyone BUT YOURSELF with your anti-collectivist mentality.

Individualism= greed and selfishness. Of course we don't need a stalinist russia or hitler germany but something 1/3 along that line would set us on the correct path.

Why Would I Choose President obama If I Was American?

I somehow managed to drop out of school in 4th grade and simply didn't know better. Make that 3rd, a lot of 4th graders would know better.

Sorry, I can't come up with any better reasoning for a choice like that. Not that Romney is much better, I don't choose him either.
