The witness activity description indicates it was the night following the end of the work week. Maybe the puzzle of moon visibility is connected with this ambiguity?

Hi Jim, from the APRO BULLETIN it is clear that it's early on 10th, around 0:50 to 1:05, so friday morning.

The official time of the blackout on the Pacific Gas and Electric company (PG&E) system was 00:54 Pacific Daylight Savings Time on 10 September 1976.
