I found it interesting in the link you sent me that Montauk Indian woman can be chiefs also i didn't know that..peace,sugarcookie1

That' s not the best thing, the best thing, and the spookiest, is the ruling family of the Montauk Tribe was named "Pharaoh".

David Pharaoh, "Last King of the Montauk"

This period of American History is a great shame for me. To be so arrogant as to believe in 'Manifest Destiny', is shocking and difficult for me to comprehend. What a mockery we have made of Thanksgiving. The giving of smallpox infected blankets, taking children from their parents and forbidding them to speak their own language, killing off the food source. Unfortunately the list goes on and on. We look outward and are appalled at genocide elsewhere, and blind to what we did. The despicable treatment of Native Americans, goes on today. I am pleased to see them becoming Lawyers, learning to fight back with our weapons. S&F

As a proud Cherokee man, thank you.

I've had to deal with racism my entire life from the decendants of those that raped my people of everything.

I have had the honor of knowing 2 native Americans over the years and they are my best frends ..

There is something very special about the Native Americans respect for Mother Earth seems something we have very little of..

We should feel great shame for what we did all those years ago..

It just goes to show who the savages really were...It is a crime that so much wisdom was wiped out through cruelty and stupidity..Tolerance has never been man's greatest gift has it..?

Thank you for posting as always..peace,sugarcookie1

Thank you for posting this, I spent some time with my boyfriend watching the vids, he's European and had no clue what went on in colonial america. What has happened already cannot be changed, but I hope it never happens to another people ever again.

obviously sad, but we should also remember that the "natives" were not averse to killing white people, including children

wooah, should the son of a murderer feel shame for his father's crime?

NO

Yet, somehow, we should feel shame for even more ever distant people and their actions, purely on the basis of the colour of our skin?

THat is straight up racism

from one ndn to you, thx

it's good to know not everyone thinks of us as casinos operator's or drunks.

I second that I'm 29 and its hard to believe but even in the 1990's in school I was sometimes called "Yum-Yum" cuz of the brand of chip which logo involved a native american woman and "The Savage"... In the mid 90's... Even today I hear a lot of people refer to natives as "Savage" around here...

Yet we didn't even marry within the same tribe, took every decisions by weighting its effect seven generations ahead... While the european nobility indulged in incest, debauchery, lies and God knows what else...

PS: On the behalf of my Mi'kmaq brothers I would like to thanks the OP for taking the time of doing this thread it feels good to see some people still remembers...

guys, don't sweat it, natives can be just as racist towards whites as vice versa- horrible things happened on both sides, let us not elevate one over the other
