i've heard as such that toutatis is not really an asteroid at all but something else much more threatening than the masses need be aware about, but i'm not sure where i heard it from... damn, after all these hours tooling on the internet, i must say, my brain is shortcurcuiting.

Toutatis is an Asteroid.

What you will hear from now on before Toutatis comes whizzing by and goes, is Scare Mongers, who will want to breach the Public & make false accusations and claims, to place fear into other peoples minds.

Ignore the comments.

You will be safe from Asteroid Toutatis.

I appologise if this has already been done. Go to this link:

neo.jpl.nasa.gov...

and you can use the interactive future projection model for this meteor. These are the numbers I gleened for the closes approaches through 2028:

Chew on this doomsdayers:

Sep 15, 2008: .0993 AU
Sep 7, 2012: .219 AU
Aug 28, 2016: .341 AU
Aug 23, 2020: .463 AU
Aug 15, 2024: .582 AU
Aug 8, 2028: .7 AU

As you can see, it is migrating away from a potential collision though it's orbit could fluctuate a little in either direction. In any case, I'll probably already be dead if/when it does hit Earth.

Toutatis won't hit us this time around but if somthing is not done to re ajust the orbit of this one it will hit us in 2012.

Check out the following...

echo.jpl.nasa.gov...

By my calculations there will be a collision with this astroid in 2012. notice the approach every 4 years....

All the best,

Tim,

Gee, you sound quite confident there pal. Please explain to me why the millions of amateur astronomers in the world have not discovered this yet and told absolutely everybody they know.

Could you post your calculations for analysis please?

All the best,

Quinn

Quote from article:
"No space rock this big will pass so close in the next century, scientists say."

This statement make me doubt every word these so called "scientists" say.
How can anyone know that for sure?
With new objects appearing "out of nowhere" all the time...

Add the word "known" in there, and feel happy for yourself being more skeptical than CNN. Also note that that's not a quote from one of these scientists.

NEOs don't appear out of "nowhere". There's a very limited number of people looking for them, and there's a LOT of sky. If you don't want to trust the so-called "scientists", join the cause and look for the doomsday rock yourself.
