Why go to a gay bar though if you are straight?

Personally, banning them from kissing in the gay bar, I do not disagree with.

Just go to a straight bar, and you can have all the kisses you want.

Cause they don't do drag shows at straight bars.

It's not gone over their head at all.

Us gay folk experience this at almost every straight venue we go to, the moment you kiss a person of the same sex they can throw you out.

This story highlights the double standard straight people have. If you go to a gay venue you can do what you like, but gay people have to adhere to draconian bigoted opinions of others in a straight venue?

Screw that!

I support them. While there are venues in that city who can get away with discriminating against gay people, they have every right to discriminate against straight people. It's sad that it comes to this, but some people are willing to take a stand to prove a point, and I support them.

Those who think this is unfair or hypocritical obviously have never experienced this for themselves. Speaking from experience, there is massive intolerance out there directed toward us from the religious nut cases of society, and even those who are just too dumb to be able to think properly for themselves.

This is a great move, and I hope other gay venues implement the same policies until straight venues comply, If you don't like it, don't go to a gay venue, stick to your own chain clubs and bars and leave us all to snog in peace!

That's besides the point.... The irony lies within so many gays across the world have been fighting for being treated as equals to straight people and to not be discreminated.

So.... through the fight against discrimination... you discriminate? You strive to be what you don't want to be...? Different...

The owner is an idiot... not for being gay, but for being everything he doesn't want others to be.

Gays gotta stop making gay parades... gay bars and so on.... atleast if they want to be treated equally.

Now... I think I'm going to open a bar where gays aren't allowed to hold hands, cuddle or kiss. How do you feel about that?

No honestly, I have never felt the need to go to a gay bar. Maybe its just me, and other straight people often go to straight bars, I don't know.

What would I do there, if i am not gay or do not have gay friends.

vvv

Here's a tip for you - men and women are different! Sorry to shock you.

More straight women than straight men have gay friends. And women like going to gay bars and clubs because they don't get slimy straight guys hitting on them all night long. It's not new, and it's not unusual.

And as said, plenty of straight people do have gay friends, and they often appreciate the entertainment and relaxed attitude of a gay bar over a straight one.

Then you have the fact that most straight bars and clubs are all owned by a small collection of corporations. They're all pretty much the same. they serve the same drinks, have the same promotions, the same audience, the same music...

Most gay venues are independent, privately owned and original. They have their own atmosphere, their regular customers, different things going on every week...

This is why I prefer to go to venues (gay or straight) that have something unique about them. I cannot stand the same BS over and over again. Most straight venues are soulless and devoid of any personality or originality, because they are owned by corporate interests.

You are delusional.

We still don't have equality even after decades of pride marches and venues. What do you think happened in Saint Petersburg recently?

And what do I think about the bar you want to open? Not much. The bar you just described exists in every city, in every state and in every country...

Last year two men were thrown out of a pub in Soho London, the UK capital of everything gay. If a mindless landlord there can do it in the UK gay capital then what the hell has changed in society?

We still do not have equality, and we still have everything to fight for. We will still have parades as long as there are venues that discriminate, as long as we are considered second-class citizens and as long as people like you are telling us to shut up.

Keep at it, we'll just get louder until we can adopt, marry, visit our partners in hospital, donate blood...

I assume you're a regular?

Otherwise, how would you know they have glory holes?

And please, can you also provide a list of all the other straight sex clubs you've attended? Just so we can get an ACCURATE picture of the knee-jerk homophobia.

Not a regular but also not scared or homophobic. The reason I know is because I have been to gay bars. Even though I am personally straight I am comfortable enough to have gay friends and attend their clubs. While I am at these clubs like any human being I do have to use the restroom. This is how I know they are there. If you want to know I also observed handles screwed to the wall in each stall for leverage.

I was poking fun at an already funny argument. Sorry if you are easily offended by my humor. As for me and my straight and non straight friends.....we find it all very funny therefore the reason for the toilet humor.

Actually, I don't believe it has. Just look at the statements he made and you can clearly see he addresses many of the typical transparent arguments that some Christians and other religious people make to defend marriage segregation. You could also say it's the Christian/religious rationalizations of bigotry and segregation all fueled by not only fear, but by conformity, ignorance, and tradition. (Yea, I call it like I see it, modern day segregation.)

A gay bar in Denmark has caused an uproar by banning heterosexual couples from kissing while visiting the premises... The owner of the bar, Christian Carlsen, said the ruling was not aimed at discriminating against straight people - but protecting the gay clients.

Here he clearly addresses the flimsy argument of "protecting traditional marriage." (From evil gays. lol) How often do you hear the words "sanctity of marriage?"
Brilliant, this shows people, who hate gays and think they are different, that treating gay people any differently than straights is prejudice and bigoted. Christians should recognize the Golden Rule in this situation. Kind of a, "How would you like it?"

Mr Carlsen stood by his policy, saying Copenhagen was rich with heterosexual bars for straight people to frequent, while the city's homosexuals had a more restricted choice.

This is similar to when people rationalize the discrimination of gays and say that gay people can still get civil unions, or whatever that is called. They say they can get all the benefits of being married, but they can't actually get married. Kinda like saying, blacks can go to black colleges and get a good education, but they can't go to white's colleges. Still getting an education, right?

Mr Carlsen wrote: 'It is important to the gay community that Never Mind is kept as a gay place. So it is therefore not allowed for heterosexuals to kiss and so on.'

This is aimed at the sanctity of marriage once again. Some Christians and other religious members, all protest that marriage must be kept for straights only. If gay people were allowed to be married, it would destroy the very foundation of the contract; Similar to straights ruining this gay bar. It would no longer be marriage and so gays must not be allowed to marry and the argument is analogous to this man preventing straights from showing public affection in order to keep this bar gay.

Wrap-up: I seriously believe he did this on purpose. They way he worded what he said, like "protecting gay clients," is clearly aimed at the ludicrous arguments of those who wish to discriminate and segregate against gays in our society. I find it reprehensible that a country so marred by slavery and racial discrimination, that certain groups, cough religious cough, would be allowed to segregate and discriminate against another group of people. I'm not saying atheists can't be against gay marriage either, but it is a rarity compared to those who are religious. The ones leading the hateful campaign are religious institutions, also. This article brilliantly illustrates the outlandish arguments posed by the bigots. This is America and perhaps we can learn something from the intelligent Dane. Now, I could be wrong about his motivations, but the way he worded his responses, to me, clearly show a concerted effort to show those against gay marriage how sickening their quest is to deprive two loving people of a cultural status because they aren't attracted to the "proper" sex.
I mean, who would want anything in common with the West Borough Baptist Church? I thought this was America, where propaganda, of how free we are, is supposed to mean something! lol

Although I think its a stupid rule to ban heterosexual affections in his bar...its his bar. He owns the joint and he gets to make his rules. If people have a problem with it, there are plenty of other bars to patronize.

This is not about Equal Rights or discrimination. This is about a man and what he wants for HIS bar.

On the other hand I also don't have a problem if a straight bar banned homosexuals from kissing, its up to the bar owner to do as he pleases in his own establishment that he built with his hard work and money.

Agreed. As Shakespeare put it

Much ado about nothing

Not saying this action is correct or even justifiable. It is a crazy rule but that is the way he wants it in his bar. Some bars play music I do not like - but it is their choice, so I got to other places. Easily solved. Do we not have enough PC rules without trying to institutionalise everything?

Danish gay bar bans straight couples from kissing... and immediately falls foul of human rights campaigner

First instinct was to laugh out loud at this situation. But after a moment and some thought, the funny fades and the reality sets in...

... nobody takes the high ground. Nobody goes the extra mile to set the example for others to follow. Instead of rising above the narrow minds, they chose to join them in an act of... what amounts to revenge.

From there, it becomes sad and just one more example of a society that is slowly eroding.

I had a great reply and just lost it so I will paraphrase what I said. I totally understand your calls for anarchist liberty, libertarian ideals, but I feel sometimes there is a need for some rules that society must obey. Speaking in analogy to gays using blacks in the old south, segregation causes society to split into two classes. One being black, which are kept poor and mostly under-educated, and whites, which are mostly affluent and highly educated. The private schools could be segregated under your thinking. This would create that two class society I talked about and would self-perpetuate the idea through the generations. Withholding opportunities to blacks by private employers would keep blacks poor and unable to join and participate in our democracy due to lack of money for campaigns, not to mention the voting laws preventing them from voting. This would make most blacks unable to afford a decent college education, further widening the gap between classes. The white colleges would be the best because they have the most money due to employers being able to discriminate against blacks. The black colleges would, for the most part, be of lower quality due to this same reason. Do you see the self-perpetuating cycle I am, poorly since I lost my previous reply, trying to convey here? Without laws criminalizing discrimination against blacks, the south would still be segregated due to private businesses being allowed to ban blacks from employment and participation. The two classes would diverge in prosperity further and further apart as the generations progressed.

You can directly apply this to gay people in America, in my opinion. If businesses were allowed to ban gay people from entrance and employment or schools were able to ban gay people, then they would be discriminated against and create a two class society where they were poor and under-educated while straight people were the affluent and highly educated class. Private businesses and schools have the power to create new economic and social classes through discrimination and that is not a good thing. The discrimination against gays would not only create a new class of under-educated poor, but the cycle would also be self-perpetuating just like how the south discriminating against blacks created a self-perpetuating cycle. If the government never criminalized segregation, then the south would have the affluent whites getting great educations and living great lives all on the backs of the lower class blacks who get the worst jobs and can't afford a proper education or healthcare. I find it amazing that the south, once again!, is leading the charge against gay rights.

I apologize for the incoherence and poorly written reply, but I lost my original and had to quickly retype before I left. Have a good day and hope you understand where I'm coming from.

P.S. I find it amazing that not many can read between the lines here in this article. There is a deeper meaning, especially with his wording of his responses, than simply it's about business or it's his choice. He may not have even meant the deeper meaning, but it is there if you use your imagination.

Irony - something like a cheeky left handed slap by words against words.

How would straight people like it if gays were in control of politics and banned heterosexual marriages but maybe allowing civil unions so straight could almost feel like they have equality.

How about if gays were in control of the major religions and decided that heterosexuals could not even receive communion or whatever religious rite of marriage - I don't think the straights would like it any more than gay people do!

Heterosexuals tend to be lacking in empathy - or there for the grace of god goeth I! - when it comes to gay people!

It is really called fear or phobia thus you get homophobia even to being afraid of the little gay person inside all of us like the little skinny guy inside a fat guy or the child inside and adult.

Straight people need to get over themselves - being straight is not all that! Because there are many people who have skinny little chicken legs - looking more like wings than legs.

It is not any different than being blonde, black, morbidly obese, or having six legs rather than only two. To the Christians out there "Did God not create all people lovely for God to behold?"

My son would say, "Spirit is spirit is spirit not matter whether you call it a tree it is still spirit!" or as Joyce Kilmer said it "A tree is a tree is a tree whether you call it a rose or not."

I'm all for the gay bar banning straights from kissing, not because I'm gay or against straight but because I'm for property rights. I don't know how things work in Denmark but if this was America I'd say good for them. As long as they own the property they should be able to do this. Just like someone should be able to choose the dress code of their establishment. If the free market decides it's stupid then less people will go to the bar and it'll fail. I personally wouldn't want to go to the bar and would hope they fail, but it's their right to do it and ostracize potential customers.

I used to when i was younger. At lunch at work sometimes we'd go out for snacks and a drink. The 'gay bar' was around the corner from where we worked. They didn't care that we were straight and we didn't care that they were gay. Money is money .. they liked our money. Drinks are drinks .. we liked their drinks.

I thought, at least in the USA, that homosexuals CAN adopt. Some high visibility people have adopted - Neil Patrick Harris, Rosie O'Donnell, Ellen Degeneres .... Or are you talking about 'over there' in europe and not the USA? I know the hospitals here (at least in the Philly area) have 'partner visiting'. Doesn't Europe? I would think they'd be farther along in this than the USA.

Question - I thought homosexual people could now donate blood because everyone gets the HIV test when they donate? Or am i wrong about that?? They won't take my blood anymore (I have autoimmune disease) so I haven't been to the blood bank in a long time .. i'm not 'up' on those rules anymore ...

Question #1: Gay dudes can adopt in certain states and others are bureaucratically intense but possible in specific situations, with Florida being the only state where it is outright outlawed.

Question #2: Everything I could find points to gays not being allowed to donate blood since 1977. The ban is still on and I believe it has nothing to do with facts or realities, but more just fear. Blood transfusions are serious business and I can understand the fear even if it is irrational. There are HIV tests that can detect the virus at a minimum of 12 days after infection, and since that applies to straights and gays alike I really see no reason to keep the ban in place.

Apparently, sodomy was illegal back then too and AIDS was called GRID, gay-related immune deficiency. (As if being gay makes their bodies somehow different. lol That's what I took the term "gay-related" to mean.) Crazy, I know. Times have never been better in terms of freedom and civil rights, yet we have a loooong way to go. It seems people tend to have a nostalgia about the past being so much more free and an absence of government, and yet blacks were still segregated till what the 60's early 70's (Not sure about the decade.), being gay was illegal and I'm sure you'd be killed in the south if you ever "went public." Yea, that part is hyperbolic...too an extent. Where is the freedom everyone over 40/50 always talks about of their childhood? America has never been a free, well if you aren't a white man that is. lol

This is a pretty basic subject in my mind. It really is, and the Gay activist community (not to be confused with an average gay person going about life) are who made it happen. I'm not sure how this might work to stand over there for their bars but this simply wouldn't stand the first court challenge here.

Ironically, the gay activists themselves are who have established the right to go anywhere, anytime and among any group of people and publicly display their affection. Who it offends or how many it offends isn't just irrelevant, but bordering on criminal to even verbally express.

If someone can tell me how that can cut one way and not the other without so much as a debate, I'm all pointy white ears to hear the theory on it. This just reeks as reverse discrimination in such a blatant way as to actually be illegal in some places here by the efforts of the very people who'd see it being enforced against them.

Now I've only been in gay bars to meet gay friends I knew totally outside their gay lifestyle. I don't believe I'd go into one alone, but a couple were actually very nice on service and prices too! Anyway...I'd never kiss my wife in a gay bar. It'd just offend everyone and I'd know it. However...Gay activists ARE doing EXACTLY that on a regular basis...so turn about is fair play on having to live with it and not be able to tell someone they can't.
