Haven't you had enough with the putdowns and the ridicule every time you spill your heart out about your abductions and our friends above? If you are sick and tired of the scoffs and the ridicule it is time to take action. Show the pitiful nonbelievers what they fail to see. Stand up and do something about what you believe, or at least, let your computer do it for you!
Yes you heard me my friend, your computer holds the key to the truth, and it is called SETI@home.

Now *seriously* let us proceed. . . .

SETI@home is a scientific experiment that uses internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You participate by running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data. The system doesn't interfere with your computer in any way, I have had it for a few months now and I don't even notice it anymore, my computer crunches the data in its' own free time and conveniently sends and receives data all on its' own, no interruption.

It is amazing to be able to be a part of and participate in such a massive global experiment, you don't even have to be an ET geek to love SETI, some are driven by the possibility of being the one to discover THE signal - a sure path to fame and fortune!
This is also a great way to meet extraordinary people from all over the world, professors, scientists, astronomers and engineers, the list goes on and on. So as long as your computer is on and running it calculates data and signals.

The whole installation process takes less than five minutes. Just follow the link below:
setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/download.html

For further information refer to:
setiathome.berkeley.edu/

You can even go to our own ATS SETI section:
AboveTopSecret.com SETI@home Team

I figured that this would be the forum in which SETI would receive the most attention, attention which it desperately needs seeing how its' forum is at the very bottom of the ATS page.
Knock yourself out!
Peace

To Xabora: Wow, form bad to bad to good, you gave me such a rush of emotions.

I think thousands of non ATS members stumble on this site randomly throughout the day, like myself, whose random search for the picture of the Camel cigarette ad (it's hidden dirty messages inside the camel) somehow lead me to ATS.

If this benefits SETI in any way or earns it even two to three extra members, than my mission will be complete.

ATS has its very own SETI-team, like leptir said, for anyone who's up for a little competition
. Here is a link to the tutorial on how to join.

I have never understood why people who think extraterrestrials are coming to this planet would be interested in the SETI program. To a UFO/ET believer, SETI should be considered a diversion to finding the truth. I mean, if extraterrestrials are already here, wouldn't hunting for their radio signals be pointless?

I don't like SETI@home one bit. IMO it is a waste of time, because the real proof lies in those UFO seats.

Seti@home's great. Every time we intercept a signal with it they just mumble something stupid and continue sucking up your bandwidth and processing power.

SETI appears to be a sham.

Stanton T. Friedman refers to SETI as Silly Efforts To Investigate, as he has come to know that whenever a genuine, confirmed signal has been received from outer space (as he claims has happened years ago), the government steps in to crush the story and silence the researchers.

Like the pursuit of full disclosure, certain covert facets of the government will never willingly allow the general public to become aware of extraterrestrial civilizations, as it does not serve their agenda of control and the accumulation of greater power. If the signals were validated, then the government would have to acknowledge that aliens exist. They have no intention of allowing that to happen.

Its a nice gesture of you to offer that. You will learn more soon and realize as some have posted that we are already in contact with some others.

Who knows, maybe it will help identify a previously unknown race to our government so that they can add one more to their growing galactic visitor list.

One thing is for sure, we will be the last to know......

There have been many documented signals recieved, and as soon as they're making waves they stop. Well all you have to do to make the signal cease is cut the feed from the antennae and resume feed with another. Meanwhile everyone is told that they saw static and the people controlling the system pull the signal in. If anything, the whole SETI system is simply a means of tell people "There's nothing out there."

I've always suspected that SETI is nothing more than a smokescreen. A distraction for the media to focus on when the question of 'ET' arrises. As long as SETI doesn't find a signal then the public can be 're-assured' that 'ET' doesn't exist and the UFO debate is nonsense.

The whole premise is so narrow - the only way we can determine that 'ET' exists is to look for radio signals originating from outside our solar system? The assumption is that other races haven't progressed any further than we have in their communications technology. Why assume this?

What if a race had evolved in a similar manner to us (unlikely) but started several thousand years before us. Surely they would have learned how to bypass the linear method of travel that we currently 'enjoy'. On the one hand we have the theorists providing mathematical proof that it's possible to travel between two points via 'hyperspace' and on the other hand we have SETI scientists convinced that the only form of travel is the tradition 3-dimensional 'straight line' route and although we may detect a signal from a distant civilisation there's no way they could ever reach us because the distances involved are too vast.

That's not just 'blinkered', it defies logic and when scientists put forward arguments as illogical as this the only conclusion must be that they have a hidden agenda. Please wake up and stop giving credibility to a project that so obviously deserves none.

Considering that Seti misses way over 99% of the radio signals through which Earth passes, against the number of times it's picked up signals that cannot be explained as natural phenomena, it seems our part of space is literally flooded with alien radio signals.

How would the world change if we had undeniable proof that there was intelligent life beyond our atmosphere? Maybe it would be a little harder to control populations and create nationalism if we realized that we had more in common with each other than differences.

But science IS narrow. If you graduate with a Phd in anything science related, you are imediately pressured to specialize and focus on one narrow field of research. That's how you make your name.

I think SETI is actually quite good. Its just one line of attack, true, but the people doing it are genuine and enthusiats like us. They believe there is life out there (or they wouldn;t be wasting their time) and they are approaching the problem in the only widely accepted way there is at this time. There is no proof of wormholes, hyperspace etc (even if these are hyperthetically possible) and so the only scientifically accepted form for looking for ETs is through radio transmissions.

I was listening to a radio program on SETI just last week. Their policies for what to do in the event of an ET broadcast are far from conspiracy-like.

All official SETI scientists have to adhere to the same rules. In the event that a strange signal is detected, a SETI member MUST broadcast the signal to as many other people as possible. Like in "Contact" there's the communication with other astronomers across the globe, but SETI members also believe that any signal is for the Earth, not just for a particular nation, or its government / military.

SETI memebers are also not allowed to return any signal into space without first getting a global concensus on what any potential reply should include.

All, in all, I was quite impressed with SETI. Its a civilian oporation, and so it should be supported as much as possible. It may be limited, but its heart is in the right place.

Sorry Leptir but I cant take you seriously here. You sound like those cheesy guys selling"revolutionary" exercise machines and diets. SETI is also "revolutionary"by the sounds of things and also just as ineffective and time wasting.

Yeah...SETI is more NASA related no?! I don't trust them at all! I have that feeling...and I don't think they can catch ''signals'', that is not what I read about E.T...They are much more intelligent than US, they doN,t need those phony signals from phony tech they have at SETI
That is my opinion

But I love you for denying ignorance

Perhaps the only reason that the SETI project is 'allowed' to continue is that there is NO chance that they WILL pick up a signal that proves the of existence of 'ET'.

Why did NASA hand this project over? Have they given up looking for 'ET' or is it that they already know the answer? I suspect it's the latter.

PBS showing a NOVA special on intelligent life on other planets. The program goes on to say that despite the disapointments with SETI we should not be discouraged from trying to find signals.

Signals could take tens of thousands of years to reach Earth and are especially difficult to detect, they are compared to a dart (message) thrown into the universe in order to show just how difficult it is for a signal to come our way and actually be observed here, but that does not mean that our search is in vain, we can not give up for as long as we know that there is any chance no matter how minute.

Visit PBS.org for more information, and look for NOVA: Origins.
