imagine for a second that the white folks would have had assimilated with native americans?
yeah, we might not have had a smart phone now, and we would have had our share of wars (although in a slightly different way), but we wouldn't have to worry about the planet spitting us out for trying to destroy it and ourselves

A good many did assimilate with the natives. At least in Quebec.

www.agt.net...

1668 ~ Of all the Natives of North America, the Ojibwa hae to have been the most accomodating race of peoples. They provided food, clothing and shelter when needed. They provided protection from the Sioux and Iroquois. The provided their daughters in marriage and accepted the Mixed Blood as brothers. They preceded the French, acting as buffers or middlemen in exploration and fur trade. They would give of their land in treaty after treaty.

1680 ~ The French plan was to Frenchify the Indians but were horrified to discover that about 40% of the young men were disappearing into the woods with their Indian wives.

Louis XIV decreed that the first offense of being a Coureur des Boise (a trapper) without a permit is flogging, a second offense was branding with the Fleur de Lys, and a third offense was life in the galleys. This policy was not successful and the Coureur des Boise were continually blamed for corrupting morals, disorderliness with the native women and above all, that they openly displayed the kind of free spirit that was naturally associated with bad behavior. It is noteworthy that they only wanted freedom, and democratic rule like the savages enjoyed.

Break ~

Unfortunately the ruling elite of that era and even right up until today aren't all that fond of freedom and democratic rule, so the whites who did assimilate were treated horrendously. But the native peoples had and still have a great deal of wisdom to share. If we would listen to them.

Yeah well we dont hunt for our food any longer. Those days went the way of the Conastoga wagon. You want to go back to the old world where there were no lights no electricity no modern conveniences just because it worked for 12,000 years? Modern times is a very small fraction of the time that man has occupied this planet. Yes man survived those times but life expectancy was much shorter, life was much harder. We used to live in caves. Do you think we should go back to that because modern life is too hard ? Not me. I think its useless to go backwards. Failure to assimilate is failure to grow. Mankind is a forward moving creature. A manipulator of his environment. entrophy is death

So what do you do for food? And what will you do when that hand no longer wants to feed you?

Is your argument that the ways of today and your modern conveniences are in some way 'better'?

Life was harder then? How so? From a rational point of view, things seemed much easier then. It's obvious that you've fallen for this trap, and you like it.

You'll get what you want. But why should I have to get what YOU want? Because you outnumber me?

It's funny that you think humanity has 'grown', when all i see is a devolution of a species. Your backs are hunched. You're over weight. You have problems breathing. You give yourselves and each other cancer. You give ME cancer. Even your trees are sick.

why is this so hard to see?

A lot of people saying the word Indian towards Native Americans and/or Native Canadians.

What some people may be ignorant to is the fact that Natives do not like that term and many people consider it racist.

I think in Canada they're most often referred to as "First Nations".

Many indigenous people in the US prefer to be called American Indian over Native American since anyone born in the US is native to this country. I'm sure others do prefer Native American. And still others prefer to be called by their tribal name. Depends on who you're talking to.

well my tribe alone has about 5000 registered voters. i cant say how many more are here.
we are one of the smaller tribes of about 10 in this state.
and there are a lot of states and a canada in north america alone.

and the federal government still attempts to take land.
every year we are approached by the government, declaring that treaties that make up the borders are wrong and we have to have legal battles constantly to defend it.

there is always a freeway they need to lay. or a pipeline that needs to cut through. or a housing development on the border that needs to be owned by the US.
they never stop

You're welcome. Sorry for all the typos, I was copying it from my family book and didn't proof read.

You bet, there were plenty of newcomers all up and down the eastern coast who couldn't get out of the colonial rat race fast enough. Tecumsah's father was a mixed breed, by a creek woman and a white man.

returning land to people that owned it in the past?

the native americans lost their land in the 1800's through genocide. not enough time has passed.

now in 2,000 yrs, we can do for them what we did for israel.

the above was sarcasm. just pointing out how some say "the land belongs to israel" even though they havent been there for 2,000 yrs, but ignore the native american plight.

I can't stand the UN and to sit there and dictate to the US what WE should be doing

I think that's why every country in the world, doesn't give a crap what the UN says. It's actually quite commical if you think you can boss a bunch of countries around, who died and made you god?

I'm all for this. I was born here in the US but I know this land is originally the property of the Natives.America represents immigrants living on stolen land and know seeing how the US is crumbling left & right I see it as karma.

The US should give giant tracts of land back to the Natives. I have some Native friends and they are good people.

There is plenty of land to go around. Rather late getting around to it though.

It isnt as bad as you think, people. US, Canada, Australia ect are quite large and wont notice the loss of land given to the natives; it wont be enough to matter at all.

Yes, life was a great deal harder in terms of daily living. Look at the pioneers. A bath was a luxury and it had to be drawn and heated by boiling water. People burned candles for light at night. Someone had to make the candles. Wolves howled in the night and people needed guns to protect themselves. Fires had to be burned to keep warm. That meant that wood had to be cut and kept by the house. OH wait, the environmentalists don't want us burning wood because it hurts the trees.
Need I tell you how fun it was to get sick then? Now if you rewind even further in the past, how fun was the black plague? Hmmm? How fun was drawing water out of the well? oh yes that was how the black plague spread...
Really do you want to kill your own buffalo and heat it over the fire? Or wait maybe you are vegetarian and eat only berries picked from a nearby bush. Ever read "Clan of the Cave Bear"? Really do you want to live like that? Or do you by chance already live like this in the wild? I wonder. How do you access the Internet? Oh life would be great without your computer. Try connecting to the Internet without POTS or Broadband or wireless towers.

I don't trust anything the UN does. It is the seat of the One World Govt and NWO. Why should any one of us trust their programs? UN Agenda 21? It's frighteningly creepy. I think they are using indigenous peoples as tools to steal the land for the NWO. That's my take. Meanwhile I wish all the American Indians the best.

To do what with? Do you honestly believe these people are going to leave the casinos and bars to run outside and hunt buffalo? This is completely looney. And again it's as if the natives were all at peace playing with feathers until the big bad white man came and threw them off the land? And it's as if the "natives" are actually native to this land. Native Americans are as native to this land as you or I. Stop it. This ignorance. Stop it.

I think we should give the native americans complete control over this country atleast they are natural born citizens and have a deep natural respect for life. I say give them congress presidency, supreme court and all the rest of the top political positions and see how much better this country gets.

Screw their land.... they got casinos all over the place and reservations, with their own laws and governments. Plus each of them getting 3k+ a month seems like this should never be brought up again.... Someone needs to snatch the land right back from under their feet. Greedy indians

This post is a perfect example of extreme ignorance. All "indians get 3k a month"?? Wow I should tell my family that. Generally, alot of places off the res wont accept or even know how to process the tax free transactions we are supposed to legally get. So maybe before you spout off, you should know what you are talking about....greedy American.

basicly, you are saying, that the ends justifies the means?

so it would be okay for me to kill/enslave an entire nation, as long as i can promise wealth to a few other nations in a hundred or 200 years... seems perfectly logical

and who are the UN to tell USA what to do? USA is CONSTANTLY bullying (or flexing at) every other nation on the planet. oh yeah... did i forget to mention, that if you disagree with America, they will simply come up with a reason to invade you!

imo, the best thing that could happen to the world would be if America vanished! your country is pathetic, really!
