I agree with your patriotic views and hopes for our country but, I don't think that Ron Paul is the man to lead us. Ron Paul reminds me of Ralph Nader, good man, smart, loves his country But, not enough people will vote for him. The thing is, Ron Paul scares the hell out of people, he's too old, he'll cut the military, no Welfare, kill Medicare, (whatever) and don't forget about that legalizing drugs thing. The U.S. is split about 48%-48% (Dems vs Repubs) and based on Paul's previous showings there is not any way Paul will pull enough votes to come close to defeating Obama. Once again, good man, noble, patriot, smart, but, he just can't get the votes. At this point in time our ONLY hope at defeating Obama is Mitt Romney, like it or not. Our number one priority is to remove Obama from the White House.

I'd like to counter your argument with a purely analytical one.

The GOP has made it no secret that their primary goal is to defeat Obama, putting a member of their party in his place. In stark contrast with Mitt Romney, Ron Paul has legions of supporters who will never support Romney. Additionally, Paul's ideology can be best described as "laissez-faire liberal constitutionalism", which is favorable to some Independents and Democrats on the fence, as well as many conservative Republicans.

If the GOP endorses Romney, he will only have the support of the GOP hardliners going into the election. Ron Paul, on the other hand, would have the support of the GOP hardliners, his own fervent supporters and some Independents and Democrats. This would give him a greater chance of defeating Obama and becoming the next POTUS.

Thoughts?

The issue that I am concerned about is not whether he has a belief or not. Of course, he and everybody on this planet has the right to believe in anything they want to. It is the individuals ability to rationalize which is reflected by such beliefs and that is my main concern with Ron Paul. As you mentioned though: If he can keep it out of the office and switch mind sets between rational and irrational when at work and at home respectively, then I have no real problems with him. His policies seem solid and ideal for what the world needs right now.

Romney believes that God, in his physical form, came down from planet Kolob and had sex with Mary to create Jesus! Now, that's a belief you can not believe in if you even pretend to be a Christian!

Secondly, Reagan, rarely went to church but many think he was a big bible thumper.......

If you want a "faith based" leader join the Catholic Church! This is a problem with Americans who think that an unofficial religious litmus test gets good leaders ... wrong again...

Clearly Romney is bat# crazy, I mean, Koloub?!
Everyone knows it was someone from Sirius that banged Mary and gave us Jesus

All leaders are the same. They say one thing when they're trying to get voted in, and do another if they are voted in. I don't even know why I vote anymore. In England, even the more left wing 'labour' is full of public school educated men who went to oxbridge. They are no different than the conservatives. Sorry I went a bit of topic there.

So, I'm not American, but I have a lot of interest in American politics...
Say RP does not win the GOP nomination and is out of the race for good... I heard that Roseanne Barr is running for pres, and honestly, I think she would be a great alternative.

Now about RP, I have had arguments with Americans who support Obama, and then I tell them "so, you're a fascist?" then they get all offended by that (as if I just slandered them or something), then I have to explain to them that if they support Obama or Romney, they are technically a fascist, because only Ron Paul is not bought by the bankers and corporations. If Obama was not a fascist, why does Monsanto run the FDA? Why does the CIA run the FBI? Why does Goldman Sachs run the Treasury Department?

This is what makes it all too clear... When the establishment controlled government and the establishment controlled media want to make other people look bad, it usually comes down to them comparing them in some way to Hitler, and yet they turn around and hail the establishment (which is ultimately a much more extreme version of fascism) as the saviours and heroes. Do they not see how ridiculous that makes them look to people who actually understand politics?

So if people really DO support Obama or Romney, they should embrace being called fascists, otherwise they just look foolish. I suggest RP supporters to use this strategy, because you will see just how effectively you will get people to look at their own positions, and possibly changing them. People should be making signs and banners and stuff, let the brainwashed public know that they are supporting a Nazi scheme and that if they continue to do so, they should be ashamed of themselves for betraying the very principles that made America so great for so long!

You've made some excellent points. As an American, I'm always angered by how little the majority of us know and understand about our political system, especially when folks from other nations, such as yourself, clearly have a better grasp of the issue. One small correction to your above statement... if RP fails to with the GOP nomination, he will likely continue on to the general election as an independent or Libertarian. The man is 76 years old and this is, realistically speaking, probably his last shot. I don't see him bowing out if Romney gets the nomination.

More excellent points. The bottom line is that the GOP knows that Romney will "play ball" if he's put into office. Conversely, Ron Paul is a man of conviction, with no loyalties to any special interest groups or political factions. He simply supports the Constitution and its ideals, and intends to return the US to its Libertarian roots. A return to a true free-market, a strong homeland defense (not be confused with global interventionism), an small federal government. In other words, exactly what Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, and James Madison had envisioned for our nation.

Again, I completely agree. Obama is a radical socialist with strong ties to Bill Ayres (a prominent member of the notorious Weather Underground) and is steering our country towards Marxist Socialism. Romney is a true "crony capitalist". He's ruled by corporate interests and would simply be a puppet for the global corporate pimps. If he is put into office, we can expect the further demise of the middle class, a massive increase in poverty, and escalating interventionist involvement in the middle-east.

Thanks, Ben.

It sounds as though RP has finally started to use the gift he was given...he is speaking well, the words that do not change. It is critical this man perfect his speaking, because his words are lost when he ceases to show the fire and driving force behind him. Stuff like this helps me sleep at night. So, thanks.

It would be exciting to see Ron Paul get even 10-15% of the general election votes. The bought-and-paid-for two party duopoly isn't going to budge. Getting that kind of support, even by not winning, puts his platform issues on the national radar, however. Whether they like it or not. Hopefully this is the year of the third party.

I can't agree with Paul's austrian economics, however. He's right on about the Fed, war, drugs, the patriot act, and on and on, but complete deregulation is absolutely not my cup of tea. The idea that businesses behave in a corrupt manner due almost exclusively to government intervention is dangerous. As if the monetary incentive plays no part. Money is more than just a tool, it's a motivator as well. Consider the Pinto memo's. No thank you, I'm not going to assume businesses can regulate themselves to prevent abuse, pollution and other cost effective injustices.

I love Ron Paul, and hope he does well. He stands for what the right SHOULD be. He's a man of integrity. I happen to be more left leaning economically, however, so I will be supporting the Green Party's Jill Stein.
