Leon Panetta, the U.S. Secretary of Defense has made a declaration.

He claims that global warming is a threat to national security !
(He was talking to a group of people from the Environmental Defense Fund)

I suppose global warming is a threat.

But many people are simply not convinced that the threat itself is genuine.

We have seen too many "experts" shout and yell only to be proven wrong later.
(and of course, they never ever return the money either !)

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta declared global warming a national security threat yesterday during a speech before an environmentalist group in Washington, D.C.

"The area of climate change has a dramatic impact on national security," Panetta told the Environmental Defense Fund last night. "Rising sea levels, severe droughts, the melting of the polar caps, the more frequent and devastating natural disasters all raise demand for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief."

But ....

The Defense Secretary must have missed Examiner Columnist Mona Charen's recent piece on how symbols of global warming aren't working out the way environmentalists predicted.

For instance, The United Nations climate change panel "admitted that the melting Himalayas prediction was not based on science but on a 1999 media interview given by one scientist," Charen observed. "They said they regretted the error. Now, a study in nature, based on satellite imagery, has shown that some melting of lower altitude glaciers is taking place but that higher glaciers have been adding ice."

With reference to the story of an apparently-marooned polar bear floating on an ice floe -- puzzling, as polar bears can swim for hundreds of miles -- Charen cited a new Canadian study showing that the polar bear population is on the rise.

"Oh, and the scientist for the Department of the Interior whose 2004 work on drowning polar bears inspired Al Gore and others has been placed on administrative leave for unspecified wrongdoing," she added.

Perhaps all the hot-air talk from the Obama politicians is a bigger cause of global warming !!

Until SOMEONE does SOMETHING about THAT, I don't think they really know anything about national security except a bunch of smoke blown up my felt up and fed up by TSA butt.

Seriously it is going to cause chaos with more droughts and famines causing people to migrate and countries to fight over water. Several countries are already arguing over water (US, Mexico, India, Pakistan, Israel, etc)

Seems like someone higher up wants to make a power grab at natural resources under the guise of defending the nation from global warming. Hasn't Obama already signed something to the effect of allowing him to control natural resources in the interest of national secturity/in the event of a national security incident?

Maybe a way to push "green technology" harder, even after the solyndra sham.

Perhaps you have too narrow of a concept of what constitutes "national security?"

As of right now, three-quarters of the US is in a draught situation, a continuation of last year. The crop yields are "iffy" at this time. Last year my state went through Hell with fires and many, many millions of trees that are still dying from the effects. Beef herds have been cut drastically and that shows up with the increased use of "pink slime, tough meat" and yet high prices. Many other states are suffering their own versions of the draught. Some of the most pressing problems is the lack of ground water. This translates into political unrest of various kinds within the effected nation and in relations with others.

The lack of sufficient food or water will drive any nation to the brink of war to get what it requires. We constantly see this with North Korea. Climate change is upon us. Political alliances can change overnight given enough citizens on the warpath because their lives have been seriously effected by nothing more than nature regardless of the causes of the changes.

I personally know nothing about what the system of HARRP is doing, but certainly you know that some people in other countries are blaming it for ruining their normal conditions of living, Allow a major government to take up that cause, true or not, but wanting a scapegoat for their people's misery, and you can see how things could get out of hand between governments. It is a government's and military's combined job to take a hard look at what is and made sage projections for what may come as a result. THAT is what national security is all about. And in my estimation, we ae seeing some of those projections being fleshed out for "just in case senarios...."

The point is it is not a National threat it is an International threat...But, hell we have so many bases around the world it might seem National to us...

Panetta and the rest of the mentally handicapped elitist in DC are a.much larger threat to our security than global warming. These SOB's will use any excuse they can to further tighten down their grip on the citizens of America. So what does Panetta plan to do about this? Are we gonna see "Operation Cool Down" or something like that where the military patrols neighborhoods looking for "insurgents" that have to many light bulbs on or their A/c set too low?

Maybe it's more the other way round, National security methods by secret projects, (as in defense) are threatening the climate.. for us, and that climate change, (used to be AGW) is a big intelligence hoax. After all, geoengineering and defense methodology in certain areas have the same hallmark.

That is from the link you posted..It still says national security...Which it is not. It is a GLOBAL International threat if it involves climate change...Has nothing to do with the U.S. specifically..Panetta is an idiot...Not trying to down grade your post either...I'm just stating what it says...No confusion between us hopefully...
