And they are going to do what to do that and to what extent? Placing pressure on China has always brought about unfavorable results. And the U.S. is not going to go to war over one mans issue.

The only thing that HAS worked as it pertains to China is exposing in any way possible the growing Chinese Middle Class to concepts of Freedom through anything from the Chinese Internet in which the Chinese populous knows it does not have full access...to Movies and Media and any other Western idealism.

China will change...but it will happen slowly as the old Communist Guard dies out. The current U.S. policy toward China is waiting and containment an if you have noticed...China does not defend N. Korea to the extent it used to as well as a lessening of threats to retake Taiwan.

Try to do what? If we had made threats...the Chinese would have killed his family and him. He would disapear.
This does not help the individual to make threats. Split Infinity

What threats were made?

Was anything done?

Do you really think, after the World has caught this story, they would kill his family? Likely not. If Obama wrote something, like I did,the ball would be in the Chinese court. They also have an appearance to justify . Closer human rights relations is a good thing.

Yes...it seems the same people who are always screaming for the U.S. to mind their own business...are the same group that also scream...Why didn't the U.S. do something!?

The reality is that they take what they have for advantage and never think about what was sacrificed to get where we are. Then when something like this happens...they are first to protest it...but last in line to volunteer to do something about it.

Blinks.

America is currently busy waging war against evil camel riding Muslims who want to take over the world, please come back later.

Are you f serious ? USA is no longer in position to tell the Cinese to shove it.

Times change, accept it.

If and when my country arrives at a point where it can no longer defend its principles by safeguarding dissidents of tyrannies, then yes... the US has folded its tent. Once we get to a place where we fear standing up for the rights of those seeking liberty, we have failed our own constitution.

None of this means we must invade anyone but at some point, when we surrender our principles for politics, for cowardice or for money, we are no longer the land of the free and home of the brave. We are a flock of pigeons feeding on peanuts left for us by whomever passes and cares for our waddlings.

You live in a dream world if you believe that your country, or any country for that matter, would risk their diplomatic relations over one mans freedom. Your country never surrendered the principles for money because money was always the top priority.

Time to wake the f up.

We have "asylum" cities for illegal immigrants.

Yet an authentic activist seeks our help and what do we do?

Whiz all over ourselves.

This is an epic, epic failure on the part of America. It shows its true colours, yellow.

This isn't "drone" diplomacy. This is real stand up for one man, one ideal diplomacy.

After being on this planet just a short time and observing the present evils of our day or reading about all the evils (whether these evils were committed by individuals, governments, religions or barbaric clans) which took place in the past I've come to the conclusion that in it's short 230 years the existence of the United States of America has and is the the most prolific producer of pure demonic and diabolical evil ever to exist on this planet.

It's worse than any cancer, malignancy or dreadful disease that any man or nation of souls could or should have to endure. And what makes it worse than ANY mass murderer, serial killer, Zionist, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, Torquemada, Caligula, G.W. Bush, Obama, Alister Crowley, Genghis Khan, Greenspan, Bernanke or any other despotic human being or empire is that it disguises itself as benefactor, friend and helper of the people.

No truer words could be spoken than these:

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague." --Marcus Cicero

God help us.

Yesssss but it's patently absurd to compare an accident, no matter how horific, to a policy.

That poor kid suffered mightily, but not due to any US specific policy.

Are you nuts?

Collateral damage isn't an "accident" in the same way; it's a known and uncontrollable excess of war.

Pissing on dead bodies, etc., isnt an accident, it's deliberate. But it's also quite clearly NOT US policy.

And on and on.

You've convinced yourself that everything the US government says is a lie, which is just as stupid as thinking everything they say is true.

This poor kid was lost in the system and almost died; that's tragic, buy unless you have proof of something other than that don't let your paranoia get the better of you.

I am against foreign action in other countries...yet, at the same time the US government is always trying to convince you they are only helping poor, defenseless, helpless people when they take illegal actions in other countries.

The reason I commented, personally, is because this case highlights the fact that the policies of the US government have nothing to do with helping any poor defenseless person... and everything to do with worship of the dollar. They only lie when they attempt to convince people otherwise.

But then I never once said the US should have done anything, I simply highlighted the economic factors in US policy decision making... and asked why people thought it would be any different in this particular instance

.To me it is glaringly obvious the interests of human life and good for mankind has never once been part of United States foreign policy, and I am shocked that most Americans have yet to figure this out for themselves!

The people in this thread who are "shocked" and "outraged" that the US did nothing to help the man, are the same ones living in the dream world that US is really going around the world "helping" people. Time to wake up.

If we let the guy in we wouldn't have anyone besides Mexico to manufacture for us.

Maybe you would have preferred that GWB still be in office, or perhaps Sarah Palin? We could have made a preemptive strike, and blown China the hell up. Maybe then, you'd feel better, and could maintain your "tough guy" image.

Pfft.
