Following on from this post about Kirtland Air Force Base and UFO documents, there's a pretty intriguing radar/visual incident described below in which two air tower control officers witnessed a very strange egg-shaped object 'with no wings, tail, or fuselage' hover and then fly across the runway there on November 4th, 1957.

The reports state the object was tracked on ground based radar as it circled the base and came within 300 feet of the ground but then abruptly reversed it's direction and climbed at a very high rate of speed away from the field on a 120 degree course - it was observed by the two air tower control officers for about six minutes (about half of that time through binoculars) and then headed south at very high speed towards Alberquerque Low Frequency Range Station before returning north to trail a military jet which had just taken off..

Incident:

Area 51 and Wright-Patterson AFB are perhaps the best known Air Force installations with connections to the subject of UFOs. but they are by no means the only ones. The UFO incidents that have occurred at or near Kirtland AFB, near Albuquerque, New Mexico, seem to have been ignored by mainstream UFOlogy..

This famous sighting occurred in 1957:

Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico
4 November, 1957
2245 MST

Witnesses: FAA(CAA) tower personnel, R.M. Kaser and E. G. Brink, reliable observers with 23 years of airport tower control experience between them.

Weather: Light rain.

A lighted object came down steeply at the east end of runway 26, left the flight line, crossed runways, taxiways, and unpaved areas at about a 30 degree angle, and proceeded southwest towards the control tower at an altitude of less than 100 feet. Observed through through 7x binoculars, the object appeared to be eggshaped, having no wings, tail, or fuselage, and was elongated vertically. It appeared to be fifteen to twenty feet tall, about the size of an automobile standing on its nose, and had a single white light at its base. Both Kaser and Brink emphatically stated that the object in no way resembled an aircraft.

When the object was about 3000 feet ENE of the tower, it stopped completely and hovered for about a minute. Then it began moving again, slowly at first, but then suddenly climbing at an extremely rapid rate of speed until it disappeared into the overcast sky. The object was in clear view at all time, with no intervening obstructions, according to the two men.

At this point Kaser and Brink phoned the CAA Radar Approach Control (RAPCON) unit to ask them if they could detect a fast target to the east. RAPCON was using CPN-18 surveillance radar at that time. Radar showed that the target moved eastward, then turned south at very high speed until it reached the vicinity of the Albuquerque Low Frequency Range Station, where it circled for several minutes. Then it came back towards Kirtland until it took up a position behind an Air Force C-46 that had just taken off. It stayed in position behind the C-46 until they both moved out of radar range.

Object Flightpath:

There have been several UFO incidents in and around Kirtland AFB through the years. A questionable one happened in 1980, but the one of November 4th, 1957, was one that has stood the test of time and has been well covered by Hynek, McDonald, etc

NICAP Case Directory

Discussion (and severe criticism of official explanation) about the case from two of the main scientists ever to have been involved in studies of the UFO subject:

Dr Hynek:

We will never know whether UFO reports represent genuinely new empirical observations if we continue the type of logical fallacy illustrated by the Air Force analysis of a radar-visual UFO report from Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1957. Two witnesses in the control tower reported at 11:00 p.m. that an object, which looked (through binoculars) like a lighted, up-ended automobile, came within 200 feet of the ground when it disappeared behind a fence in a highly restricted area, easily visible from the control tower, then rose abruptly at very high angular rate and disappeared. It was observed visually for about six minutes, about half of that time through binoculars, and tracked in part by radar. The report of the Air Force officer who investigated this case, which is in the Bluebook file, states:

The two sources are Airways Operations Specialists with a total of 23 years experience. Both were on duty in the control tower at Kirtland Air Force Base when the sighting was made - both appeared to he mature and well poised individuals, apparently of well above average intelligence, and temperamentally well qualified for the demanding requirements of control tower operators. Although completely cooperative and willing to answer any question, both sources appeared to be slightly embarrassed that they could not identify or offer an explanation of the object which they are unshakably convinced they saw. In the opinion of the interviewer, both sources are completely competent and reliable...

Twenty-one Years of UFO Reports by Dr J. Allen Hynek

Dr Mcdonald:

On p. 141 of the Bantam edition of the Condon Report, you will find a two-paragraph discussion of a case at Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, N.M., Nov. 4, 1957. This is an example of a UFO report not previously known outside of Air Force Project Bluebook channels, of which the Condon Report contains perhaps a dozen instances in its total set of around 90 cases analyzed.

Immediately upon reading it, I became quite curious about it; more candidly, I became quite suspicious about it. For, as you will note on reading it for yourself, it purports to explain an incident in terms of an hypothesis with some glaringly improbable assumptions, and makes a key assertion that is hard to regard as factual..

More 'strange egg-shaped object with no wings, tail, or fuselage' reports from the day before in Texas:

About an hour later, the phone rang again. Jim Wheeler, driving on Route 116 about 4 miles east of town had come upon a 200- foot egg-shaped thing sitting on the road. The brightly lit object cast a glare over the area. As he approached the object, his lights and motor died. When Wheeler started to get out of his car, the UFO rose into the sky. As its light blinked out, the car lights came back on.

Another call came from Jose Alvarez at Whitharral, 11 miles north of town. Driving on Route 51, he had approached a similar glowing object on the road and his motor and lights had failed.

At 12:05 a.m., Newell Wright (who did not report the experience until the next day, and then only at his parents' urging) had "motor trouble" while driving toward Levelland on Route 116 from the east. His ammeter began jumping, the motor gradually died, then the lights went out. Puzzled, Wright got out and lifted the hood to check his battery and wires. Finding nothing wrong, he closed the hood and turned around. For the first time, he noticed an oval object sitting on the road ahead of the car. The object appeared to be over 100 feet long, and was glowing a bluish-green. Frightened, Wright jumped in the car and frantically tried to get it started, without success. Then he sat helplessly watching the object, hoping someone would drive up. After several minutes, the UFO rose "almost straight up," veered to the north, and disappeared almost instantly. The car then started without difficulty..

Thanks for those vids (and great link!) mate - the first one does an excellent job of summing up the Kirtland case and I can only guess how Dr James Mcdonald must have felt when he realised many of the USAF UFO explanations were complete bullsh#t (or absurdly erroneous as he put it) - as for similar eye-witness testimony from different locations, it seems the more you look for these 'strange egg-shaped object with no wings, tail, or fuselage' reports, the more you find.

Here's another military report from the day before the Kirtland incident (Nov 3rd) and it comes complete with yet another highly dubious USAF explanation... unless you believe the planet Venus can give you sunburn that is.

The White Sands Jeep Patrol UFO Incident:

White Sands Military Police Patrols.

At 3:00 a.m. (MST) - 4:00 a.m. Levelland time - November 3, two military policemen on routine patrol at the White Sands missile range, reported an egg-shaped UFO which descended over the base.
Cpl. Glenn H. Toy and Pfc. James Wilbanks, patrolling in a jeep, noticed a "very bright object" high in the sky. The object descended to a point about 50 yards above a bunker which was used during the first atomic bomb explosion. Then its light blinked out. A few minutes later the light flared up again, becoming bright "like the sun," dropped toward the ground on a slant about 3 miles away and disappeared. According to Lt. Penney, the M.P.'s described the UFO as egg-shaped, and about 75-100 yards in diameter. Cpl. Toy stated: "It looked like a completely controlled landing."

That evening, about 8:00 p.m., Sp. 3/C Forest R. Oakes and Sp. 3/C Barlow, on another two-man jeep patrol, reported seeing an unidentified light hanging above the old A-bomb bunker. Oakes described it as "200 or 300 feet long. . . very bright." The patrol was about 2-3 miles west of the bunker. As the M.P.'s watched, the UFO took off climbing at a 45 degree angle, its light pulsating on and off. Moving slowly, sometimes stopping, the UFO gradually diminished to a point of light "like a big star," and finally disappeared.

link

White Sands Engineer:

About 17 hours after the second jeep patrol sighting at White Sands, James Stokes, a high altitude research engineer at the base, watched an elliptical UFO maneuver over the area. Stokes also looked up and saw a large, whitish egg-shaped object moving in and out of clouds to the northeast, in the direction of the Sacramento Mountains, The UFO made a shallow dive, turned and crossed the highway a few miles ahead. As the UFO flashed by, Stokes felt a wave of heat. (His face later appeared "sunburned.")

Moving at fantastic speed, the featureless object turned sharply and disappeared over the Organ Pass west of the base. In a taped interview broadcast on station KALG, Stokes estimated the speed at 2500 mph.It was "definitely a solid object," he said.

link

USAF explanation:

The Army jeep patrols sightings were evaluated as "astronomical." The release said:
"Astro plots indicate Venus is at magnitude at the time, place and direction of the first patrol's observation, and the Moon, with scattered clouds, was in general direction of the second patrol's observation."

Cheers.

Here's a radio report of the White Sands MP UFO incident on November 3rd, 1959.

The same day as the Levelland, TX sightings of Nov. 2,3, the day before the Kirtland & Stokes cases of Nov 4th, and three days prior to Radium Springs, NM case Nov. 6, was the White Sands MP incident. I haven't located any written reports or documentation, but this taped radio broadcast provided by Wendy Coonors of Faded Disc Archive is extremely interesting and is yet another case listed as a possible nuclear connection.

MP3 of White Sands PIO report to Radio Station KGSW

Guess the main question is what actualy was the highly maneuverable egg-shaped object with no wings, tail, or fuselage that was capable of extremely rapid rates of speed that was tracked on radar and observed by several military and civilian witnesses over a two day period in a localised area?

Another similar report from November 6th taken from the book 'The Challenge Of Unidentified Flying Objects' by Professor Charles A. Maney:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/9451e135b3ea.jpg[/atsimg]

Yet, in spite of this dramatic succession of unexplained aerial manifestations, the scientific world as a whole, like the traditional ostrich, keeps its orthodox-minded head buried in the sand..

Within the next few days scores of sensational reports of sightings were received. Just to mention another which occurred close to the Air Force Missile Development Center, near Alamogordo, New Mexico, a little more than two hundred miles west of Levelland, Texas. This incident took place on Monday night, November 6.

James Stokes, a research engineer of the Center, reported a dramatic encounter with a UFO. A huge elliptically-shaped object, Stokes said, had appeared between the Center and White Sands. As it passed near Highway 24 it had cutout his radio and then stopped his engine and those of other cars. Stokes estimated the UFO's length at 500 feet. At its closest point, he said, he could feel a wave of heat. The object had no visible portholes or any exhaust trail.

Stokes related his experience to Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzen, of Alamogordo. Mrs. Coral Lorenzen is Director of Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO) and through her bulletin is internationally known in UFO research. Holloman Air Force Base officials had Stokes scheduled for a physical examination due to the fact that he had a rather pronounced sunburn after the incident. While he was sitting in the Lorenzen living room that Monday evening, he continually scratched or rubbed his neck and face, complaining of itching sensations. However, the discolorations and irritation were completely gone the next morning. On Tuesday evening Stokes was invited to the Lorenzens' where local members of APRO met to talk over current events. He looked quite normal then.

James Stokes, an electrical engineer engaged in high altitude research at the Government Development Center, surely deserves to be thought of as a reliable scientific witness.

Kirtland AFB has always been part of the UFO puzzle.
Mr Bennewitz intercepted some communication there, that led him to Dulce NM.
Frankly, I'm sure there is an energetic reason why UFO's gravitate to this area.

It looks like the same object was seen over Alabama in the same year by the Air Force. These egg shaped UFOs remind me of what I read from Colares Brazil, where they were shooting beams down in '77.

Bennewitz was led to Dulce by Gabe Valdez and Manuel Gomez after the cattle mutilation conference of 1979, it wasn't anything to do with his interceptions are Kirtland. He set up a monitoring system in the mountains by Dulce after observing a surveillance craft when scouting the area with Gabe and Manuel. Thanks to a handful of disinformation agents for the media these facts are hard to come by.

Greyer, thanks for the reply mate and that Colares case has got to be up there as one of the most freakiest of the lot.

See you've made some posts in Kandinsky's thread and it also mentions that Benedito Campos and his wife Silvia Mara were 'attacked' by a flying, egg shaped object which emitted a 'greenish beam like a searchlight' that made the lady go into 'a benumbed trance-like state' - crazy stuff!

Hostile UFO Encounters: Colares, 1977

MUFON's Bob Pratt also suggests in the article below that the sightings (and attacks) were still occurring up until 1993..

In 1981, one woman who had been exposed to the UFOs beam in Colares died, although it is no clear that her death was clearly related to the attack. In 1986, not far from Colares, two persons on Crab Island were discovered "badly decomposed by heat" amid numerous sightings of balls of fire in the sky; cause of death "not known" in either case.

Same area, different time: a "ball of fire" seriously burned three men out cutting wood on Crab Island; one of the woodchoppers died. One of the two survivors, Edmundo, had a gaping electrical-type burn injury on the side of his chest, an almost perfect replica of the chest burn suffered by Jack Angel in Georgia in 1974.

In 1993, again in Colares, a 32-year-old missionary and a 40-year-old domestic worker died, a month apart, as a result of close encounters with UFO; according to ufologist Pratt, these women were "both burned on the throat and the chest, as were most of the other people the doctor treated."

Said Pratt: "I know of about ten deaths that have some connection with UFO close encounters." According to the USAF, there is not one proof of the reality of UFOs, and there are no evidence that they can be a danger. According to the skeptics... According to the skeptics? To tell the truth, skeptics never express anything in such cases. And the larger public does simply not know about such cases.

Thanks karl 12, the research of Bob Pratt is very close to my interests. In 1993 I believe that could be happening because also in 1993 there was what appears to be an alien invasion in Fyffe Alabama during the same year. This may be the year that the species living by Dulce Mexico was hoisted out of their base I am guessing, because they would go to different secret strongholds hence north eartern Utah and Fyffe.

In Colares the Brazilian government supposedly ended up meeting with an alien face to face. Their investigation was abruptly halted and disassembled immediately because contact had been established. I makes me think of a tale that fractions of the US government had made contact with ETs in 1964, another possible contact is in 1954, and yet another possible link to direct communication was from a downed UFO crash and a living alien in the late 1940s. It almost makes you believe because you can see the difference how the UFOs treated the people in Brazil and the US, as if they did sign the treaty.

I think this supports the evidence that aliens have been monitoring earth for a long time, and the atomic age had brought them over to New Mexico, they built a stronghold and a UFO was struck by lightening in 1947. The aliens made contact to their home planet with success, and it took until 1973 for them to get here when a large UFO flap was witnessed.

Certainly some interesting reading there mate and will keep in mind to look out for any UFO reports from Alabama in 1993, you're not wrong about the October 1973 wave either - a huge number of reports in a short period of time in a localised area:

The unusual aerial events happening during the October 1973 time-period remains one of the most fascinating of all UFO happenings, an intense and disturbing siege that no dismissive hypothesis or explanatory venture will easily rob of its strangeness.

Thread

As for the other localised UFO sightings during November 1957, here's another addition from the pilot of U.S. Air Force F-86 jet fighter over Illinois who reported 'a large, flat, silver coloured object which had great speed and performed acute maneuvers' - the government document which was sent from the Commander of ATIC also concedes there is 'a current rash of UFO sightings'.

Message from Commander, Air Technical Information Center to Commander, Air Defense Command

From the records of the Air Force’s "Project BLUE BOOK," this message dated December 3, 1957, references the sighting of an "unidentified aircraft" by the pilot of an Air Force F-86 in the skies over Joliet, Illinois on November 27th.

." I makes me think of a tale that fractions of the US government had made contact with ETs in 1964, "

VERY interesting indeed! i wrote a song about the 1964 April 24th Gary Wilcox incident and how it seem so similar to the Lonnie Zamora case both on the SAME day. What I LOVE about this thread is you guys talk about egg shaped crafts. That is exactly what was mentioned by both Lonnie and Gary on that fateful April 24, 1964 day.

But what I find so incredible about the Gary Wilcox case is that two beings came out of the craft and mentioned that they were from mars and that they have a tough time growing plants the way we grow them. They had trays in their hands. When they expressed difficulty in growing plants it immediately made me think that they live underground.

Thanks for posting about egg shaped crafts as the theme for this thread.

I am not sure about the Brazilian incident that it was egg shaped, I tried to find that word in the info but couldn't find it.

Thetiler, thanks for the post mate -here's an oval shaped UFO report from Brazil where the object was said to have emitted a 'greenish beam like a searchlight'.

On the evening of October 29, Benedito Campos and his 17-year old wife Silvia Mara were at home when "they spotted an oval, silvery object emitting a greenish beam like a searchlight towards the room where they were lying. Filled with curiosity, they approached a small window and, as they did so, the beam shot in through and made straight for Silvia, throwing her into a sort of benumbed trance-like state."

The only problem with the report is that Kirtlans AFB is at the South East end of Albuquerque. If the craft headed south from there it would have been over the Isleta Reservation, not the city.

Borracho, thanks for the post and good point made, I could have this wrong in regards to geography but doesn't it say in the paragraph below that the object moved eastward, turned south then came back towards Kirtland?

At this point Kaser and Brink phoned the CAA Radar Approach Control (RAPCON) unit to ask them if they could detect a fast target to the east. RAPCON was using CPN-18 surveillance radar at that time. Radar showed that the target moved eastward, then turned south at very high speed until it reached the vicinity of the Albuquerque Low Frequency Range Station, where it circled for several minutes. Then it came back towards Kirtland until it took up a position behind an Air Force C-46 that had just taken off. It stayed in position behind the C-46 until they both moved out of radar range.

Cheers.
