Occupy Wall Street Plans Global Protests in May Day Resurgence
By Henry Goldman and Esmé E. Deprez - Apr 30, 2012 10:28 AM PT -- Bloomberg

May Day 2012.

General strike ?

The Theme seems to be:
no work, no school, no banking no shopping

and no "what else" ?

Occupy Wall Street demonstrators, whose anti-greed message spread worldwide during an eight-week encampment in Lower Manhattan last year, plan marches across the globe today calling attention to what they say are abuses of power and wealth.

Organizers say they hope the coordinated events will mark a spring resurgence of the movement after a quiet winter. Calls for a general strike with no work, no school, no banking and no shopping have sprung up on websites in Toronto, Barcelona, London, Kuala Lumpur and Sydney, among hundreds of cities in North America, Europe and Asia.

In New York, Occupy Wall Street will join scores of labor organizations observing May 1, traditionally recognized as International Workers’ Day. They plan marches from Union Square to Lower Manhattan and a “pop-up occupation” of Bryant Park on Sixth Avenue, across the street from Bank of America’s Corp.’s 55-story tower.

In advance of a major Occupy rally planned for Tuesday, President Obama delivered a speech this morning filled with class warfare rhetoric.

The president warned union members that Republicans would rather give "rich folks" more tax breaks, than invest in the American worker.

"Republicans in Congress would rather put fewer of you to work rebuilding America than ask millionaires and billionaires to live without massive new tax cuts on top of the ones they’ve already gotten," Obama declared in a speech to to construction union members at the Hilton hotel in Washington.

Obama added that Republicans' economic plan depended on tax cuts for the rich and "dismantling your unions."

Ahead of May Day, Obama delivers class warfare

That IS the point.
No one can get ahead because of the current status quo.

What the anti-occupy people fail recognize above and beyond anything else is that at least they are doing something, peacefully at that. Will it amount to anything, time will tell. Then, whether people agree with them or not, the occupiers are at least trying to go about it in a peaceful way and not start a civil war in the process. That is not to say it still could not happen, but at least they are not promoting a violent outcome when the only other option is indeed violence.

On a personal note, I hope they succeed. Because I am one that is tired of all the talking, I am ready to start cracking skulls.

May Day is a holiday in the country I live in and in other counties around the world.
I take it in the US May Day is not a holiday - in fact I think you guys have less holidays than almost any other country on the planet. Being a slave to work isn't something to be happy with in my opinion.

If there is an Occupy protest in Belgrade and I'm in town tomorrow I will attend.

This is where I'll be.
Tomorrow is going to be huge and yes I'm scared of the police and what they might do but I'm more scared of silent acceptance of the status quo.

well if I was in my 20s and not my 30s I would probably go down there just to hangout and drink beer for a day or two, but now days I don't like having to struggle for money and food, and love my big screen TV, smart phone, cable tv, a new truck, and not having roommates is awesome.

I respect their fervor and hope they have a peaceful -- though, from the reports it is planned to be anything but -- protest.

I on the other hand have mouths to feed, chores to run, and business to conduct. Just don't get in the way of my economic liberty and the pursuit of it and you kids can have all the fun playing hookie.

So I'm guessing you're just another typical right-wing parrot with no sensible opinions on this at all?

Let me guess, you're one of those people who still believes in capitalism, while completely failing to comprehend that what we have is not capitalism?

And I'll guess you're one of those people who uses words like "commie" and "lefty" because you're not capable of combating the obvious facts that the USA is in 15 TRILLION $'s of debt, that millions are homeless and unemployed, and yet, SOMEHOW, the rich are STILL MAKING A PROFIT!

Sorry, I've had to make all of those assumptions based on your complete lack of any opinion, in favor of posting up some pics that you hope will persuade someone that all the facts are suddenly wrong and it's much better to just point and laugh.

I will be out tomorrow. And no, I'm not unemployed and I'm not homeless. I just have the intelligence to understand when economic inequality is so severe it cannot lead to anything but a complete collapse of society. If you fail to even comprehend that, then there is absolutely no hope for you.

It is something of a holiday, notable day, in the u.s. . It is known as "Americanization Day" or "Loyalty Day". It is a day celebrated in great revelry and joy.

Are any "Locals" getting involved ?

Casino workers, etc. ?

Cab drivers ?

We have many Las Vegas ATS members I know.

If the cab drivers get involved, it could cause some real snarls

There were losers then they are still losers now who still want a trophy for just showing up in life.

Get real Ows and Obamas rhetoric is straight out of marxist and communist class conflict for the neaveaux generations calling it class warfare after all we have to be politically correct here.

Didn't make a difference then won't make a difference now.

All I see are less than 1% of 1% claiming to speak for the 99%.

They stand for nothing more than their own sense of self-entitlement and hatred for anyone who disagrees with them.
