That's right, probably breaking a rule but this is in direct reference to this thread:

Explain to me how Homosexuals are "born that way"

going from the stars the OP has, many people seem to agree with this users "opinion", or ignorance if you are like me.

So instead of derailing his thread with my ranting diatribe, I put it over here.

Explain to me how a homosexual isn't born that way? Better yet, explain to me how I was born straight and not gay. Explain how you are straight and not gay. Are you honestly trying to tell me the only thing keeping you from slapping on some leather and hitting the "hammer and anvil" is god's teaching?

My upbringing, family, surroundings, had no impact on what my genitals decided. I've asked plenty of people this, gay and straight, not one of them remembers "deciding" to be gay or not. Maybe it is a genetic thing, who knows, but I'm sure you aren't insinuating it's a disease are you? Because if so, well played, that's some of the most well thought out and disguised bigotry I've seen at ATS so far.

You know, don't even ponder those first few questions, instead ponder this..

Why do you care? How does it affect you? It doesn't, at all. Yet, you feel the need to interject yourself into it, bring it up (like there aren't already enough gay bashing threads here). I really can't grasp it.

On the one hand, the religious side of ATS begs and pleads for tolerance because we are constantly harassing you, yet you feel the need to infect threads with your hatred when not needed, and create inflammatory threads like the one this rant is in response to.

I'm starting to think that maybe, just maybe, some of you guys have taken a few pages from the zionist handbook and are actively doing this to smear yourselves, to evoke the response you will surely get, so you can point out the users and whine about it. That has to be it, because that's the only angle I can make sense.

I'm not gay, not in the least, couldn't be even if I wanted to try, my junk simply doesn't work that way, I require the opposite toolset for me to become interested. It took awhile before I could even enjoy porn if a male was present.

But I really don't give a crap how or why other people do what they do, I believe we are all humans and equal, and I refuse to allow bigots to spread hate, and that's what the OP of that thread, and every peabrain who starred him, is doing, spreading hate.

Oh, they've learned to stay loosely within the T&C, as have other groups, but it's still hate.

You know, the main group of folks who are so adamant that homosexuality is wrong are the same folks who encourage us to love one another.

I've read the Bible, and I seem to recall an interesting fact about Jesus....he NEVER consorted with the religious folk. Instead, he was always with the outcast, the downtrodden, the "sinners," if you will.

Following that precedent, I wonder whom Jesus would associate with today. Those who spread hate in the name of religion, or those who are victims of religious hate.

I know my answer......

It's usually the religious nuts who have the biggest problem.

Ironically, their judgement of others is just as big of a 'sin' as being gay.

Religion, such a hipocracy.

Seeing as this is my thread, and in the rant section, i feel comfortable answering that question:

He'd consort with the blood relatives he has living in Gaza
Love thy neighbor.

Well ,see, I can almost "get" that hate, much like the child born into racism, it's a taught and learned thing, and when coming from religion, it takes a strong hold.

What bothers me is why it bothers them so much when it affects them so little.

But it does affect them. Christians don't really have a live and let live policy. In their mind, everyone needs to be saved, and if you are saved, then you play by their rules.

If you aren't saved, then you need saving, and by all that's holy they will do what they can to bring you to the light.

Regardless of your soul's current state, Christians view some activities as inherently wrong and do not want these activities in our society. Hence the protests and whatnot.

One of my best friends is queerer than a 3 dollar bill.
He knew when he was 6 that he liked boys.

He was born that way and knew it and just went with it.
I agree with you...you can't pick what your genitals like or want.
It is what it is.

I usually don't bother with the gay threads because there is too much judging and hatred to even bother typing a reply.

People are people...the ones who have a problem with it might have to either agree to disagree or go and look in the mirror before judging others.

They are born the way they are born.

[more

I didnt read the original post that you are rebutting.
The title looked straight up bias. I usually get really worked up in regards to any post expounding the virtues and/or arguing the "legitimacy" of racisim or bigotry.
(I have had more than a couple of my responses to these intolorate bigots removed by the Mods)

So I put myself on a restriction of sorts.

Kudos to you OP for taking this challange on and your well written rebuttal.

respect for one and other is the only way!

I remember when I was in high school one of the girls I dated had a little brother who was all of 8 or so. The kid was constantly stealing her dresses and underwear etc. Running around the neighborhood in dresses. Their parents claimed he would grow out of it, but he is now gay. So I can see merit to the argument of being born that way.

On the same note I have to question it when it comes to all. I think there are cases when people are born gay, but I find it highly unlikely they are all that way. I have known a few people who were straight and then just up and changed their minds one day.

Maybe the ones who come out later in life were listening too much to other people who told them it is wrong and bad and acted on it by being in the closet in the first place.
When one doesn't care about the acceptance of others, than they can truly be themselves.
Being told one thing and than learning things themselves, allows room for freedom to be themselves.

I had a friend in high school, actually, the first girl I was "with" was his Ex..... No one ever had a hint of him being gay, and we knew him for decades. It wasn't until we lost touch when we all moved away to college that he came out. He told us it was harder to come out to his friends than his family.

He didn't decide to be gay, he decided to stop pretending because that's a toxic existence.

i really just can't get my head around it, I was from a very young age, completely uncaring about race, doesn't matter, sex, race, religion, I don't care at all, and never, will never, understand why it matters so much to others.

Well the main one I remember was my neighbor, because I had a huge crush on her as a teenager. She was married with 2 kids. It was always my fantasy that one day I might get to hook up with her when I was 18 lol. So I kept talking to her and flirting etc. She flirted back at times, and then it was like my dream came true and she kicked her husband out. Next thing I knew she had decided she was a lesbian.

Sorry apparently I needed to clarify this post more. The point is that she was living the lifestyle of a heterosexual until she kicked her husband out. Then she decided she was a lesbian. I was saying there was no pre-cursor that I know of etc. Not saying that she didn't have the urges throughout life. Just my own personal observation.

Seriously guys...
There is no proof to either side.
The OP of the other thread had a legitimate question and was wanting opinions...
OF COURSE you can't have a debate about homosexuality without it getting heated.
Just like you can't talk about religion on ATS.
You create a thread about a verse in the bible and the first 10 posts are
"There is no such thing as God ; The Bible is just a fairy tale" or something of that nature.
YOU really should be ranting against the people who reply to that thread because They are
the ones who get crazy.
You basically got crazy yourself, you just did it of the thread...which makes you better? I don't think so.
And NO gays aren't born that way. That's just gross. Peace out.

This is what I keep pointing out to Christians, especially those who hate atheists and constantly rant about them and how they're ruining things for Christians.

You see, I firmly believe that if Jesus comes back he'll do the same things he will rally against people like Pat Robertson and other Christians who say that absolutely everybody has to follow the Bible and the Bible should be the basis of all legislation and should be what rules people's lives.

No, the Bible was not meant for any of that. It was meant to save souls by helping people through charity and helping people find a better life for themselves, not setting up a theocracy where all the unwanted are sent to LA.

So that also means that when Jesus comes back he will be persecuted by Christians. Because most Christians live their lives by the book and are unwilling to throw off the book if God comes back and tells them the book is wrong.

i was sitting looking at this rant pondering on whether or not to reply and i thought meh why not

I usually get really aggravated reading threads on religion and indeed the gay community not because of the content but because of the sheer downright ignorance people have. Everyone has the right to their opinion that much is true however if people are going to spout their bile they have to have the common curtosy to listen to the return fire. Most gay people will tell you that they knew from when they were children they were different, many took alot of years to come out of the closet so to speak because of bigotry by others and the stigmata placed on them by religion, they felt that they had to put on a front to make other people happy and to conform to the so called 'norm' that are expected of people, gay men find it especially hard in society has they are pivoted as supposed to be macho manly men, that is the sin here.... that people are forced to live a lie to please other people.

All the come back that religious folk have is that god made Adam and eve, not Adam and Steve
There is also a scripture that is widly used by religion :

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God

This is what they use as proof that being 'gay' is a sin. it does seem to be pretty straight forward in the context it is read however, even if a person believes that homosexuality is a sin based upon this scripture, the next verse does say that homosexuals can inherit the kingdom if they come to the Lord, Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 6:11 - "And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."

I find it ironic in a sense as most people don't seem to think that the gay community are religious, many people i know that are gay or bisexual are Catholics or Christian. Anyways enough about religion

To me is doesn't matter what religion you are, what sexual orientation you are, what colour you are or if you are posh, rich or poor. The simple fact is We are all human beings, we all bleed the same blood, we all have feelings, we love, we hate, we get sad and we feel joy. No-one has the right to judge another person by their skin colour, religion or sexual orientation - the greatest sin imo is humanity's ignorance.

As the lord so called said himself:

Matt 7:2-5 "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye ."

For the record i am no religious nut lol, i was raised by a catholic gypsy mother and a Christian father, i also have buddist aunts. Ironically i am now a married with children bisexual wiccan
- make of that what you will lol

Homosexuals, bisexuals, transexuals, and heterosexuals are all born that way.

For the religious people.... think of this way - the first 3 are God's answer to overpopulation.

Ha, what a great way to think of it, really. Then again, there are people who honestly believe it's a cultural thing, and that those gay parents who adopted (children who might not have been adopted otherwise) are going to turn that child "gay".

But really, when you distil it down, that should at least make them stop and think. Sure you dislike it for whatever reasons you have ,but hell, they aren't going to produce offspring without a donor of some kind..

*yes, I'm well aware that a female can now be the genetic donor instead of a male and good on them if they do.*
