Are you a humorist specialist? If you read the posts on FOUR pages, almost all of us thought it had a funny value,even if it's been done before.
Yeah, He could have condensed the setup for the punchline. So what. It's like a magic trick you don't know how they did the first time. After you know the trick your not impressed.

I've had the pleasure of working with some of the greatest comedy names in entertainment and even though my opinion is worthless, it caught me off guard because of the surprise ending. So I looked at the ATS sites he had set up and went WTF, then I laughed at the gag.

And yes, It should/could be in jokes and puns but it wouldn't have had the same impact. Your correct. Comedy is about the surprise ending after a setup. Not the expected.
The ending was unexpected.
