I was going through some pics on my phone when I found these pics I took a year or two ago when I was out in the woods. I totally forgot I had them.

I encountered this freaky alien looking insect. I never saw something like this before. It looked really out of place since we don't have any exotic animals where I live.

If someone can help me identify this little bugger, please help.

Pics are a bit blurry due to the lousy camera on my phone.









Any ideas?

I live in the Netherlands, it was approx. 5-6 cm long, or about 2 inch I think, and it is definately not shopped or a toy thank you very much.

I will say moth as well because i've had one on my front door step about the same size, brown and looked like a DEMON.

Lol, as amatter of fact I did, put it in a plastic baggy, forgot about it and found it in my backpack a week later.

It looked even more eewwww then so I threw it in the bin.

Maybe some sort of strangle walking stick bug. They can get pretty weird looking.

Notodonta larve comes closest so far. Good call.

This is one of the reasons I love ATS, always a quick answer. Well doesn't look exactly the same, but close enough I think.



That lobster moth looks even closer, that must be it, thanks.

No problem I didn't make out those strange grasping legs on the front at first

I checked some more pics and it is definately a lobster moth larve, found some pics looking exactly the same.

Thanks again. Got my answer in 15 min.


btw, I think it may be related to dr. Zoidberg, blewwhahaha.

OMG!!! I don't know what it is but you're right about it looking alien. UGH. I hate bugs. Somebody kill it!!!!


I know we need bugs, and we can't kill them but just....EW.

I run an insects photography group on Deviant Art and i have to admit ive never seen one of those. But saying that i would bet that its some kind of caterpillar of a moth. I just dont know which one at the moment.
